After driving 45 minutes from Southeast D.C. on a January Saturday, here's my experience. 1) Parking: There's a medium-sized gravel parking lot with empty spots often. On the edge of the lot is a porta potty. Near the trail head are signs talking about the area's history and directions on which path to follow. 2) Trail: The path leads to a boardwalk where people sometimes fish. Follow the boardwalk across the water to the island. Here, the trail wraps around the small island with a constant view of the water and its wildlife, including herons. 3) Markers: The trail is well marked with signs that talk about the quarry's history, how the stone was transported to D.C., etc. You can see the foundation of the old quarry and a historic marker.

This was the best park I visited today! Why, you ask? Because of the pollination fields and corn…read moreand pea fields! Butterflies and grasshoppers were everywhere! There's also a good sized creek, the trail follows, as well. Butterflies puddling on the rocks, tasting all the rich minerals from the creek water and ground sand/dirt. I took some great pictures of them. Plus I brought home some brown crispy leaves for my hermit crab. He loves them. He'll be crunching all night! Lenn Park also has the best dog park I've ever seen, albeit, I dont have a dog, but my daughter just got one so I'm excited. Its 3 dog areas fenced in separately. Its really nice. And grassy. Not muddy and gross. There's also some "exercise" equipment there for the dogs like bridges and circles to jump through. Best park ever! Across the street, there's a house with a rooster that was cock-a-doodle-doing! My grandson cracks up when we act like roosters. Will be a good place to get everyone together. There was one large shelter there with grills. People need to eat! Glad I took today off work. What a great day!
