Special commendation to nurse Bridget on Needham 3. She went above and beyond to keep my cousin comfortable and to ease his anxiety. She advocated for his needs on several occasions with the outside Hospice team who didn't understand his limitations and anxieties. And she was there for me as I grieved and worried about logistics. She is a true gem!!!! Another honorable mention to Linda on Needham 3, who also looked after me when things got overwhelming. I highly recommend Mr. Auburn hospital for service, medical expertise, and for providing a lovely non-intimidating environment.

I gave birth to my second child at Winchester Hospital, and unfortunately, it was a very…read moredisappointing experience from start to finish. The biggest issue was the L&D & Mother/Baby unit after delivery. My newborn and I were placed in a room that was only 68 degrees. We were told there were no other rooms available, the solution was to give us extra blankets. We had to wait approximately 36 hours before we were moved to a room with an appropriate temperature. Recovering from childbirth while trying to care for a newborn in a cold room was incredibly stressful. I was also shocked by the cleanliness of the hospital. The postpartum room did not appear clean when we arrived. During my stay, the trash was not emptied daily, and the floors were never mopped. For a labor and delivery unit caring for mothers and newborns, I expected much better sanitation. While a few staff members were kind, my overall experience in both Labor & Delivery and the Mother/Baby unit did not meet the standard I expected. One experience that has stayed with me involved the nurse who introduced herself as Lindsey. She attempted to place my IV before my C-section and was unsuccessful after five attempts between both of my arms. At that point, I politely asked if someone else could try. Instead of responding with understanding, she appeared upset, gave me attitude, and slammed an item before leaving the room. It was an incredibly vulnerable moment for me, and I was shocked by how I felt I was treated. Even if a procedure is difficult, patients deserve compassion and professionalism, especially during childbirth.

The one bright spot during delivery was our L&D nurse, who was absolutely phenomenal and gave us incredible care during a stressful time. Unfortunately, things got much worse once we were moved to the maternity unit. It was the middle of December, and our recovery room was completely freezing. There was a thermometer on the wall, but it didn't work at all. The AC was blowing on us most of the night! I was so upset. The nursing staff called maintenance four separate times to fix the heating issue, but it took maintenance 8 hours to finally show up. Trying to recover and keep a newborn warm in a freezing room with zero prompt support was unacceptable. We will definitely be looking elsewhere for maternity care moving forward.

As primary care offices go, Beth Israel Lexington is rather good. Except for one well known monster…read moreof a physician, the doctors are courteous and competent. Some show a lot of care. I would describe the place as one where people who take care of their health would come. You will need to stay on top of things! If you are generally carefree about your healthcare you probably shouldn't come here. I would highly recommend that if you want good care you be respectful at all times, particularly when something has gone wrong or if you are stressed. They respond well to courtesy. They have an adult specialities department which is extra convenient because a lot of the physicians also work downtown. And PCPs can provide paperwork that lets the specialty department know what type of appointment you need. This coordination between departments is invaluable when you are seeing a specialist for the first time. It also means that you don't need to worry about whether they will agree to see you or whether they will require medical records or a referral. The office sometimes can be slow to respond to requests and frequently makes a errors. They often have a hard time with the details of refilling prescriptions. They, like many primary care offices run late much of the time and it is impossible to know when you will leave. The lab waiting area has been recently renovated. The wait times can vary. Most of the phlebotomists are competent and will draw blood with a minimum of discomfort. You should be aware that the coordination with other Beth Israel labs can be lacking and you might that you may need to repeat bloodwork because of errors if you are coordinating a complicated blood draw with other labs. You might wonder why despite all of the afformentioned downsides I am awarding this facility four stars. Well primary care is often a miserable experience where people are treated like cattle (excaerbated by a lack of supply of residencies which artificially raise specialist salaries and disencourage medical students from becoming PCPs). And Beth Israel Lexington is significantly better than many other clinics that I have frequented. Additionally, some of the providers are clearly significantly above average.

Gunderson outpatient Our family member was recommended for…read morethe Gunderson Outpatient program by their psych. The psych works at Mcleans in some capacity but our loved one knew him just by individual psychologist meetings. Our loved one started the program and was taking part in the required 90 day sobriety and sessions leading up to possible admission to the outpatient program. Her psych presented her case to the Gunderson team because he is part of the team. He presented to the evaluating doctor and our parent therapist along with others. We didn't know this until later because everyone on the team acts as though they don't know the other members of her team. This means every person on the team can claim ignorance of the other professional's behavior. Institutional protection from accountability. Our loved one was supposed to take part in two sessions a week and be evaluated for appropriateness for the program. Our loved one would do one weekly session with a DBT therapist and one with the evaluating doctor. Our loved one completed a personal narrative, and we did as well. After 6 weeks we reached out to our Parent therapist on the team to ask if our loved one should do an addiction treatment month at Silver Hill. Our loved one was sober but struggling. Our loved one was interested in Silver Hill and had made a call to Silver Hill to gather information. We never heard back from our Parent Therapist so we asked again. Our loved one was interested still but was worried that stopping the Gunderson Outpatient Assessment would send her back to the beginning. She asked for clarification and confirmation that she could do the Silver Hill program. We were given a "Maybe, but let's see how this goes. The Doctor really thinks she is a good fit for the program and is probably going to admit her to Gunderson Outpatient". Two weeks later we had our first and only family zoom with the evaluating doctor. The doctor asked our loved one to explain what she had been doing in the DBT session with the other doctor. Our loved one said those sessions had never been scheduled. The DBT doctor had never run a session in over 6 weeks and the assessing doctor didn't know this. Supposedly the assessing doctor was conferring with the DBT doctor for the application. The doctor asked our loved one to remember to send in the personal narrative. Our loved one told the doctor she had sent it over a month ago and had recognition that it had been received over a month ago. We expected a more serious assessment process. What we saw was inattention and lack of concern. About a week after this family meeting we received the four sentence rejection email. It said that our loved one was not going to be admitted to the program and that they should take part in a program such as Silver Hill and then reapply through the whole process again. I reached out set up a meeting to talk about this decision and never heard back. The short rejection email did not offer an expediated re-application or to confer with Silver Hill. The rejection letter did not offer a time to talk through the findings. The rejection letter was completely unprofessional given these are supposed to be experts in working with people with fear of abandonment, low self-worth and need for validation. There was no response to our request to a follow up meeting to better understand the short email rejection. To make a long story short. The communication is awful. Get all your questions answered in the first two weeks because no one cares to respond after that. You can ask for clarification of the process of admission but it is not there. They do not give criteria or information. The attention to the assessment appeared terrible. The assessing doctor never talked with the other doctor who was supposedly leading weekly DBT sessions. Those weekly sessions never took place for over 6 weeks but the assessing doctor didn't know that. Clearly the doctors weren't communicating about the applicant. The assessing doctor did not even know about the personal narrative our loved one wrote that had been in the file for over 6 weeks. The Gunderson Outpatient Admissions process is calcified, poorly communicated and designed to protect the institution and promote priorities that are not about the person with BPD. I thought an institution full of BPD experts would have an admission process that was supportive of people with Abandonment fears, Need for validation and low self-worth. Instead the process actively hurts people with BPD by offering no clear outline of the assessment process, doctor's who show a lack of concern and interest, and a final outcome that is just an email with no follow up or assistance offered. There are people and programs that save us, and there are people and programs that harm us and set us back. Gunderson Outpatient admission program harmed our loved one. After the rejection they overdosed, finished the Silver Hill program and now ar

I really needed the fourth trimester care to help me process the trauma from birth, and Dr. Z let me cry and repeat the story over and over again. I'll never forget the time she hugged me and promised me something good would come out of it. She was also provided excellent care to my daughter. I will never forget our crazy first meeting and her kindness. She listened and provided me care when my own OB/GYN's office failed to do so. It is absolutely ludicrous the postpartum care we receive. Locals will tell you that MGH stands for "Man's Greatest Hospital." That is the absolute truth…read more Since "MGH West" (now known as Mass General Waltham) opened in Waltham, about 26 years ago, Mass General has exponentially increased the number and breadth of services available there. Don't think for a minute that you're going to be seen by a "country doctor," as in rural America, at Mass General Waltham. That is absolutely not the case. MGH has brought the physicians, clinicians, technology, expertise, and high standards of its downtown "Mother Ship" on Fruit Street to Mass General Waltham. For more times than I care to admit, I have had surgery AGAIN in the Same Day Surgery Unit at Mass General Waltham. Everything I remembered about the unit proved true, once again: the care is consistently exceptional, and the kindness and professionalism of the staff are extraordinary. The consistency of care at Mass General Waltham is exactly what I would expect from a top-tier, High Reliability Organization. The facility is filled with reliable systems of care and expert clinicians--and, equally important, people who genuinely care about the patients they serve. Again, when I arrived at the Same Day Surgery Unit, I was greeted by an especially kind, welcoming, caring, professional, and efficient member of the front-desk staff. I was then escorted into the patient-only area by my pre-op nurse. From admission through discharge, I was continually impressed by the kindness, compassion, professionalism, and efficiency of every person I encountered. What is particularly striking is how much the staff seems to love working at Mass General Waltham. It felt as though everyone I met had come from the "Mother Ship" downtown and then arrived at a "Happy Place"--one that reminds me of the "Happy Island" of Aruba. Nursing was over the top--absolutely fantastic--as were anesthesia and surgery. As someone who has dedicated my career to patient safety, systems and process engineering, and High Reliability Organizations, I pay very close attention to how care is delivered. From that perspective, Mass General Waltham is exceptional. At every step of my surgical journey, there were appropriate verifications, structured handoffs, and optimal transfers--not only of me as a patient, but also of the information necessary to care for me, safely. The systems were reliable, the communication was excellent, and the people providing my care were outstanding. My care was flawless, as were the people who provided it and the systems supporting that care. I simply cannot say enough positive things about the people, processes, and quality of care at Mass General Waltham. It is a privilege to be a Mass General Waltham patient. Unfortunately, I'll be back in the operating room, again, in a few months. I am incredibly grateful--and genuinely comforted--by knowing that when I return, I will once again receive exceptional, compassionate, highly reliable care from the Same Day Surgery team at Mass General Waltham.
