Hit and miss for me! Grew experience with my child's…read morepediatrician, whom we were trying out for the first time, but decided to stick with him. Absolutely wondering with kids! Made us feel like a doctor with a soul who cares for their patients. Except the front desk staff were impatient! Then, I went to the main hospital on Mt. Auburn....front office, excellent. Administration staff, who record(ed) first-time visit to the hospital, wonderful too! Personable! Oh! The woman who did my blood work --Horrendous! She persistently dismissed my being combatively (and I hate to say this about a Black given the racial connotations loaded onto us), but she showed complete disregard for me and cut me off when I tried to speak. She was thoroughly dismissive of what I said, even when she pretended she wanted to apologize (to protect her job). I tried to explain to her that I wanted to prepare her for my squeamish behavior when getting shots so she didn't feel daunted by a grown woman screaming over shots . I also tried explaining that I always try to create a safe space with new social interactions. I also get excited when I meet another black woman like me in practices where they are very rare --particularly true where I live! Plus, considering that black women's health is statistically underprioritized and mostly neglected, having a black medic attend to me boosts my hopes of "being seen, heard, and attended to with courtesy"; how wrong! This woman/lab tech was awful! She focused on reminding me she's been doing this work for umpteen years, and nobody has ever complained about her, "I'm very nice." I tried to explain to her, as a teacher, kids are not all the same, and I do not treat kids the same." Oh! She decided to explain my profession to me, like she knows it better, "That's a classroom. It's different...kids are not going anywhere..." Anyway, nothing was left for me but to tell her, "Have a great day!"

During a five hour stay for a fall with head injury and broken rib, vitals were taken only at intake. Despite an elevated BP on intake, monitors were disconnected when the patient was transported for the first CT test and never reconnected. There were no nursing rounds or check ins, and there are no care or discharge notes in the myChart. Discharge did not include a review of care and treatment plan. Simply, here are your instructions (15 pages of notes)you can go now.)

The staff is wonderful, working in that environment is most often met with patients that are not on their best behavior, in pain who can be ? The staff always remains so optomistic. I had a very concerning experience at Winchester Hospital when I brought my mother in with…read moreextremely high blood pressure (202/87). Upon arrival, they performed an EKG, X-rays, and blood work--but then left her sitting in the waiting room for over 8 hours without treatment or monitoring. Given her condition, this was alarming and felt unsafe. When we were finally brought to a room, we were seen by a nurse practitioner who, while polite, informed us we would not be seeing a physician as he had 12 years experience. After additional blood work, he returned and said she would be discharged if she could walk. A staff member walked her for approximately 10 seconds and cleared her. I specifically asked why she was being discharged with blood pressure still over 200, and was told she was "fine" and that her primary care doctor would need to manage it. This response was both dismissive and deeply concerning given the potential severity of hypertensive crisis. The lack of urgency, minimal evaluation before discharge, and dismissal of a dangerously high blood pressure reading left us feeling frustrated and worried for her safety. I would not expect this level of care--or lack thereof--from a hospital in a serious situation.

I would describe the place as one where people who take care of their health would come. You will need to stay on top of things! If you are generally carefree about your healthcare you probably shouldn't come here. I would highly recommend that if you want good care you be respectful at all times, particularly when something has gone wrong or if you are stressed. They respond well to courtesy. They have an adult specialities department which is extra convenient because a lot of the physicians also work downtown. And PCPs can provide paperwork that lets the specialty department know what type of appointment you need. This coordination between departments is invaluable when you are seeing a specialist for the first time. It also means that you don't need to worry about whether they will agree to see you or whether they will require medical records or a referral. The office sometimes can be slow to respond to requests and frequently makes a errors. They often have a hard time with the details of refilling prescriptions. They, like many primary care offices run late much of the time and it is impossible to know when you will leave. The lab waiting area has been recently renovated. The wait times can vary. Most of the phlebotomists are competent and will draw blood with a minimum of discomfort. You should be aware that the coordination with other Beth Israel labs can be lacking and you might that you may need to repeat bloodwork because of errors if you are coordinating a complicated blood draw with other labs. You might wonder why despite all of the afformentioned downsides I am awarding this facility four stars. Well primary care is often a miserable experience where people are treated like cattle (excaerbated by a lack of supply of residencies which artificially raise specialist salaries and disencourage medical students from becoming PCPs). And Beth Israel Lexington is significantly better than many other clinics that I have frequented. Additionally, some of the providers are clearly significantly above average.

Or, they supposedly sent the prescription to "Humana Pharmacy"--the world's worst online excuse of a Pharmacy, who claims they didn't get it, so I'm stuck in this prescription Hell where I can't get anyone at BIDC Lexington to re-send the prescription to a different Pharmacy, & Humana Pharmacy won't help & just lies to me. I've been assigned to a new Dr., but I can't even message her, b/c she's not in their message system thing yet. And NO ONE there will help me with this. On the plus side, my new Dr. speaks Urdu.....however my Urdu is just a little rusty. WTH???! My old Dr. there was generally very good, but a real enforcer type. Every little thing was treated as a major crisis, with enforced specialist visits, extreme tests, etc. And every specialist visit, even when they found NOTHING wrong--I was forced to go to a "followup" visit. Major Tests that showed NOTHING wrong--guess what--had to get another test. And she tried also to make me go see her every 2-3 weeks. It was all crazy-making......

I was so grateful to have Dr. Z come to my apartment to care for my newborn and me. Dr. Z is knowledgeable, kind, and flexible. The model of having the first two months of my child's care from home was so comforting- it allowed me and my baby to stay in the home and rest and heal after delivery. Meg from Tova health handled all the admin stuff. She made scheduling, paperwork, and setting-up the patient portal super simple. When it was time to transition beyond the first two months of care, Dr. Z and Meg helped us find the best pediatrician and make sure they had all our records. Awesome experience! I was not able to get out of bed for over a week after the birth, so our first meeting was with her sitting at the foot of my bed. Thank goodness we chose her for my daughter's pediatrician because there was no way I would have been able to take her to an office. I really needed the fourth trimester care to help me process the trauma from birth, and Dr. Z let me cry and repeat the story over and over again. I'll never forget the time she hugged me and promised me something good would come out of it. She was also provided excellent care to my daughter. I will never forget our crazy first meeting and her kindness. She listened and provided me care when my own OB/GYN's office failed to do so. It is absolutely ludicrous the postpartum care we receive. This fourth trimester care model should be mandatory everywhere.

Dr. John Kwon, MD (MD!, not DPM), is an expert, Fellowship trained Foot and Ankle orthopedic surgeon, who exudes expert, state of the art, compassionate care. Dr. Kwon surgically repaired a complex foot condition of mine, and, here I am, six months post-op, and I so regret not having my foot condition repaired, years prior, by Dr. Kwon. I am grateful to an MGH orthopedic surgeon for referring me to Dr. Kwon. Dr. Kwon's Care Team includes a Physician Assistant by the name of Patrick Maguire, who is a superb clinician, as well. Dr. Kwon and Patrick Maguire function as a very cohesive team, and collaborate closely. On the day of my surgery, Dr. Kwon updated Patrick Maguire about what he discovered of my condition, in the operating room, while Patrick was seeing patients in the Foot and Ankle clinic. I saw Patrick several hours, later, as we were leaving Day Surgery, and Patrick had already heard about my surgery from Dr. Kwon, even though Dr. Kwon, and Patrick, were in two different places. Dr. Kwon's support team, in the office, two, very caring ladies, are superb; they are as caring, as they are professional, and efficient. I am confident that I could not have found a better foot and ankle orthopedic surgeon, than Dr. Kwon, and Dr. Kwon's team, and the Day Surgery Team (including nursing and anesthesia) are absolutely superb.
