So I called as the website did say to call to make sure someone was there as hours can be intermittent. "Yes, we are open. Is that you in the car out there? Come right in!" I was a little dazed as a friendly man took me through the romantic veiled lighting straight to what I was seeking, a vanilla orchid vine (yes the plant that makes vanilla beans!!!). He had about 5 beautiful plants and said he could also provide a cutting. Meanwhile, I kept looking around saying to myself, this is a magical kingdom of orchid fairies waiting for someone to love them. I knew there was a treasure chest waiting to be discovered, but I almost didn't even know how to ask what all this stuff was. I asked here or that at a bizarre plant, but I didn't know how to say, I want to know what every single plant is! I want to make friends with them all! The nice man helping me was also very knowledgeable about the plants they carry knowing the requirements and particularities of the various plants to help you find what you are looking for and to succeed by buying the right plant for your lifestyle and space. Mickey's specializes mainly in orchids, but they also have a few rare varieties of other types of plants. They are connoisseurs of the plant world. No, this is not where you go to buy a cheap plant. This is where you go for something special and to support an excellent local business. Lastly, as I went to check out, I saw some beautiful driftwood art as well as lovely pots lying around. He said don't worry, you'll be back, and I thought...I think I will.

They…read moredid this for days so they made a deep trench in the grass between our house and our neighbor's. We texted pics of the damage to our neighbor with a promise to lay sod as soon as the work was completed. Finally! The work is completed. Whoo hoo! I knew to buy sod from Nu-Turf because I've done so a couple of times through the years. They are really nice guys and their St. Augustine sod is hearty. You can see it's grown in rich soil - look at the pics of the underside of the sheets of sod! We didn't even have to go to their shop to get great service. They make it easy - we actually called them on Monday, enroute to go shopping, to arrange for half of a pallet to be delivered to our house on Saturday. We weren't sure if we needed a full pallet and the guy who we spoke with told us that half of a pallet has about 40 pieces. That'd do it! We ordered half of a pallet ($135). There's a $45 delivery fee and a $6 pallet deposit fee so we'll return the pallet this week. They delivered the sod with no problem. They even asked us where we wanted the pallet dropped - we chose the swale between two main areas needing sod so we didn't have to go far to lay the sod. The sod sheets are approximately a foot and a half by two feet. We had enough to fill in the trench from the wheelbarrow, the dead zone where pallets of pavers sat on our front lawn and other bald work areas around the property. The product is great. The price is right. The guys were easy to work with and consultative. Don't you love it when companies come through for you? Years ago the guys in the shop turned me on to a retractable rake and plant hormone - I still use both and think that if I didn't shop at Nu-Turf I would have lost out on having insight about what to use and how to use it. Small Business Saturday is right around the corner - what a great time to buy from them!

These were the plants for us! We went to Sunshine Bromeliads because they offer a broad choice of plants from which to purchase. They have rows and rows of plants for $10 each - a better price than more commonly known nurseries! (They also have plants for $5 and $25 based on size and type.) The outdoor nursery has a huge area under a tarp for bromeliads that thrive in partial sun and another big area in the open for bromeliads that love full sun. Visitors can get design ideas from the garden area that has a bromeliad-lined koi pond, tree trunks festooned with bromeliad rings, clumping bromeliads used as ground cover, and bromeliads growing on fences, tree limbs, and in shallow rocks! The only thing more stunning than the hot pink, speckled purple, and striped leaves of the plants - or the multi-colored flowers from the bromeliad centers - is the customer service. This family-owned business is obviously a labor of love. We became fast friends with the owner and her family from the first time we visited (we've been back three times). During our visits they identified plants that would thrive in our yard. They always pack each plant for ease of travel. A few weeks ago the owner's daughter even gave me a tomato and pepper from her personal garden. And yesterday the owner gave hubby a birthday gift of a beautiful bromeliad in bloom! They speak English and Spanish and are open from 8 to 4 during the week and 10 to 3 on Saturdays. If you're like us, once you go you will rack your brain to think about where else you have room to plant more bromeliads! Hope you like the pics!

They stood out to me because they were open later than 5pm which is very rare for nurseries in the area. I drove over. The road was long and at one point, unpaved and bumpy. I arrived at approximately 5:13pm to a closed gate. Since I'd taken the drive I decided to call. A man answered. I asked, "is this Cid and Son?" He confirmed. I asked, "hi...do you guys carry..." but I was promptly cut off. The man said, "No...crucy only okay?" That's what I heard..."CRUCY ONLY". I don't know what that means. Crucy???? What was he trying to say? What is "crucy"??? But before I could inquire, he hung up. I was at his gate so I backed out and drove to Lowe's. Unfortunately, my schedule doesn't allow me time to make it to any nursery on time so seeing that he was open until 7:30 was exciting and then womp womp! Dreams killed. Lol! So now I walk the nursery at Lowe's sad and disappointed because they don't have what I want.
