This review is not for the entire park, but just for one trail. We parked in a lot across the road…read morefrom the Callaway General Store and Café. We asked them about parking (no fee) and were returning there for lunch later anyway. We then hiked up Rt 190 about 50 yards and found the trail crossing. We opted to do the one on the left - I think it was Bentley? The one on the right was the Pine Mountain trail. The trail was a nice hike through the woods but never more than 200 yards from a main road. We followed it to a junction and turned right so as to begin the loop back. Since it had taken longer than planned already, we hiked back along Route 190 instead of another trail. In total, it was about 2.1 miles and took us from 10:45 a.m. to 12:05 p.m.! The trail was hilly with a lot of rocks so the pace was slow. I enjoyed the hike, though.

We have stopped here many time because my parents live not far from here. They used to have a spot…read moreto pull over to look at the river below but not they have parking spots and a beautiful deck to overlook the river below. They also have clean public restrooms. They have cabins/tv/tent spots to rent on Airbnb and reserveamerica.com. We have rented their cabins 4 years in a row now. They are gorgeous. They also have a small country store with supplies if you forget something if you rent the cabins and shirts and souvenirs to buy as well. The park itself is down the winding road to the bottom of the mountain there is not designated parking just a gravel road. They have trails to walk and a park and also newly built gazebos to rent or reserve for parties and celebrations. They do have restrooms there as well. You can swim in the river but the current can be strong and there are no lifeguards. If you want a extremely peaceful place to visit take a chance and go here.

It's big enough that if you or your family want some private, family time, there is a great spot. Multiple areas: to picnic/grill, room for big playing: room to train big dogs, hiking/walking/running/cycling paths, playing frisbee, football, basketball, frisbee/disc golf, playground. There is a lake (I'm not sure if you can fish or not. I would think so. But, double check to be sure.) Area for water play. (A bit of a warning) It has moving water, down the rocks.... The rocks are super slick. Mama tip: Needless to say, adults and kids can fall and get hurt. It's rocks/ big, slick, rocks! But, FUN! Lol I love taking my dogs to walk and play outdoors. On leash, of course. Restrooms throughout the park, and covered pavilions for big groups/family reunions/get togethers/church functions (egg hunts)... great park to enjoy being outside! Fun for everyone:)

I practically grew up here. I know all the bridges and piers and probably all of the roads that lead you to the lake. Hell I have a running tab at one of the bait shops cause the original owners kids still remember me do in to shop as a kid. I know that it's rude to come to these fishes home and kidnap them. But I love to have fish as guest right next to some yellow grits and cheesy eggs. So I apologize for that but I'm that kind of girl! Yes. I do agree that things have changed around here. There are a lot of things that I used to do in the late 80's early 90's that they just don't allow us to do anymore. But it's okay. We have to roll with the punches after we curse a little of course. There are less staff members here. Not enough trash cans. Bathrooms close foe Winter and then you can't find a port a potty. Bring a Red Cup and some baby whipes ladies. That is the best tip feom me you will ever get. Trust me on this one! But none of the changes can take away from the beauty of the place. And the fact that you get to see and touch and feel and live in the moment right here I the great State of Georgia. With that being said, what amazes me the most is that most of the people we meet on land here are from Atlanta. Maybe all the natives have their own boat. But it's a great way to meet new people! Long time friendships are made out here. It's a huge lake so be careful if you are fishing in land because some of these little roads are in Alabama and vice versa. Just double check if you only have a GA fishing license the you don't want to get caught fishing in AL. If you are on a boat however, no worries. I hope that if you are in Atlanta that you will give this place a try. It's a little over 1 hour from the Hartsfield-Jackson airport in Atlanta. Depending on who is driving may 1 1/2 hours. Parking is non issue. Theres a cute park along the way, artwork... even zip lining. I loved watching the kayaks in the water. Now that we've seen some of what Alan was singing about while on the "Chattahoochee River Walk" in Columbus, Georgia, it makes me wonder if the lyrics to his song could actually be semi-autobiographical. ‍ This trail runs parallel to the river and offers a consistent connection to it during your adventure. Walkers, runners, cyclists, and leashed dogs are all welcome here and from a safety standpoint I'd assign it a perfect score during daylight hours. Those with mobility challenges should not be dissuaded from enjoying it because it is well maintained, mostly flat, and easily accommodates wheelchairs, baby strollers, etc. While I typically elect to run most of the trails that we review, I quite enjoyed causally meandering along this one. Fifty years ago, I stood on the low grade bank of the river near Bobwhite Road just a few feet away…read morefrom a 50 acre field where I had planted Soybeans. The soil is so rich that chemical fertilizer was not used. Perhaps some of the best topsoil in Georgia because of decades of the Chattahoochee River overflowing into this location and other natural lowlands. It's still pretty much as natural as it was 50 years ago. I highly recommend this private, not crowded area for a good place to actually walk up and touch the river water.

We then proceeded to the end of the road and parked at the lot next to the river. We did the hike along the river. The trail map says it is over 5 miles, but we just wanted to do around 3 total. We passed a couple of markers for 0.5 and 1 miles and hoped to find the 1.5 mile marker as our turn-around spot, but we never saw it. I suspect we were approaching 2 miles when we turned around. The trail was pretty, especially with the fall leaves. We only encountered maybe 4 other hiking groups during our walk. If you are in the area, this is a pleasant area for hiking.

You cannot miss it. However, you may miss the road or entrance to view. It's going downwards to get to one side, but the other side is another road that you will easily miss! I had to ask someone. Free. Small parking space. I actually see two barns. I didn't go inside. I saw several photographers there doing their job and didn't want to interrupt them. Not busy at all, just us and then one other dog walker just before we left. They have portable bathrooms. The hotel is still under construction. We had a pull through full hookup site. Packed gravel and dirt site that was partially separated by trees and plants. Joined to Cheaha Falls and Pulpit Rock. Both were absolutely gorgeous views. It was a great weekend getaway!

DO NOT STAY IN THE CABINS!!…read more Last night my wife and I swept the walls and floors of lady beetles flushing them down the toilet, since they are invasive. Around two we got to sleep. A few times we got woke up by a bite of two but most were gone or so we thought. We woke up to find the windows covered with them. We called again to ask for help and they sent down a housekeeper. After talking to a few employees we found out this has been an ongoing problem and that many people have cut their stay short. As I understand from what was said to me the management here is fully aware and wants to ignore the problem hoping it goes away instead of addressing it. This is a bad look for Alabama. If I travelled all the way here to stay in these lovely cabins and paid what we paid only to be swarmed by Asian Lady Beetles I would not recommend this beautiful park to anyone. It's not the bugs that give this a two. It's the attitude and lack of action by the management that got them that. The only reason the got a two is the cabin and park are beautiful.
