I had a great time in the store on Wednesday. Their customer service was outstanding. The two young ladies were very helpful with helping to suggest items I should purchase. I purchased many items on Wednesday for a large group trip I am sponsoring. After I purchased the items, I realized on Thursday that I no longer needed the six packs of Lance crackers, so I decided to return them on my way out on Friday. Of course, Ollie's was very busy because it was Black Friday. I stood in line because I had no choice. Once I got to the register, I was told that they are not doing returns because they were busy. I advised them that I am out of town and on my way out. The manager/supervisor Jeffery, reluctantly took me to another register to process the return. He reviewed the receipt and the six boxes of crackers which were $2.59 a box and confirmed that my refund would go back to my AMEX. Jeffery gave me the receipt and it was only $9 and change. I told him that I didn't think that was correct, and Jeffery abrasively pointed to the receipt and told me see look that is what it came out to. I told him that I was not saying you are wrong, but I calculated it differently in my head. Then Jeffery told me to have a blessed day. I was not feeling well, so I said, you too, and left out. I later reviewed the receipt and saw that he returned the 1st item on the receipt which was only $1 and change. I did not even get six of those items. I later called AMEX to put in a dispute. They took my information and instantly reimbursed my money. I like Ollie's but I will not return to this one.

Unfortunately, that has not been my experience with Rockingham Ace Hardware in Waynesboro. I first bought a 4-stroke trimmer for around $450, and it broke within the first hour of use. They replaced it, but the replacement also broke within an hour the same day. After that, I upgraded to a more expensive 2-stroke trimmer, nearly twice the price, and returned the 4-stroke. Unfortunately, that 2-stroke trimmer broke within one season. I then bought another 2-stroke trimmer from them to use while the first one was being repaired, and that one broke within a month as well. When I brought it in, I was told the issue was fuel-related and was charged $50 for the repair. I explained that I use the same fuel in my other equipment, including two blowers, another string trimmer, and a hedge trimmer, and those machines all run fine. I also asked whether this particular trimmer was unusually sensitive to fuel or possibly defective, but I was told it was a maintenance issue. For someone trying to buy dependable equipment for personal use and support a local store, this has been very disappointing. I was hoping to have a good local place to buy and service equipment, but after multiple failures and being charged for a repair on a nearly new machine, I do not feel they stand behind the products they sell. At this point, I will likely have to buy equipment online instead, which is unfortunate because I would prefer to keep my money local. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Rockingham Ace Hardware in Waynesboro.
