As I've never been to a currency exchange I Yelped it to find one. This one rated 5 stars. I gave it a 4 because I don't have anything to compare to. It's a small place. One gal was working. I had to wait a bit as the transaction before me took some time. I needed $ for NZ and AUS. Easy transaction. They charge 3% if you pay by debit or credit card. It's in a strip mall so parking available there. I found meter parking on the street fairly easily too. Not the best part of town, but I was in and out so fast it wasn't a concern. read more

I needed to buy some euros for my upcoming trip so i stoped by today at La Currency located in Van Nuys( i think there is another one in downtown) and let me tell you this. I was very pleased by the service i was given by 2 young ladies. They were very nice and very professional giving the fact that they are dealing with money all day long and that can be stressful. The place was very secure and inviting, the rates were very reasonable. I also learned that if you need large amount its best if you call a head to order it(lucky for me that wasn't my case but I am glad i know it now for the future). These guys have the best rate in town!! I had to go to a business trip in Italy, and I had to depart on a Saturday evening. I called my bank to find out the rates for currency exchange, and they had a $1.439 per 1 Euro, and also found out that it will take 5 business days for them to get the currency in. Later a friend recommended that I check the rates with LA Currency and after searching their website I found out that they had a 1.362 rate. I made it to LA Currency at 3:00 o'clock on that Saturday, since they were open until 4 pm and was able to get my currency with my desired denominations, without any extra fees. They helped me to save about 120 dollars, compared with my bank and without any delay. I came from Canada with lots of Canadian Dollars. Usually I exchange them right then and there, the best exchange service there is Calforex, but this time I didn't have time. So I was recommended to go to Foreign Currency Express in downtown LA, as it was supposedly "the best one" in town. But I didn't. I called them and their rate was 1.07 (as opposed to 1.0515 in Calforex). But Calforex is in Canada... So I searched around and found LAcurrency and exchanged there some of my money. Their rate was 1.065. It doesn't seem like a big deal if you exchange a hundred bucks, but when you exchanging a few grand - that makes a difference. Point being: 1. Exchange your money while in Canada; but if it's not possible - 2. Go to LAcurrency. They do seem to have the best rate in town. But exchange only what you need at the moment, as next time you fly to Canada they'd have a better rate LOL :) Note: plenty of free parking, no lines and no fees. read more
