Granite Depot - Granite and backsplash in kitchen- The Woodlands, Texas

Granite Depot

(2 reviews)

We had Granite Depot install granite and marble countertops in the following locations: kitchen…read more(also tile backsplash), laundry room, and 5 bathrooms. The kitchen already had a builders-grade granite and the other rooms had formica. They did the tear-out and new install. We are VERY PARTICULAR on things and went ot the slab warehouse to tag our own slabs. Mr. Bala also usually only offers more builders-grade sinks, so we opted to go upmarket knowing that we would have to pay the additional cost. We went with 3cm slabs as it has a nicer look than having a thinner slab and then having an edge put onto make it appear thicker. We had a fancy edge put onto the granite in the kitchen, but all other areas just had a regular edge. We did have the luxury of doing the tear out and installation while not living in the home--- the installation can be very messy. I have attached a picture of the kitchen. We did marble countertops in the master bath vanities (not shown). As with any and all contractors, the buyer must know what to ask for/ ensure what they are getting. If you don't want a seam in the middle of your countertop, then you must state that and make sure your slab is big enough. We are moving to a new house soon (unfortunately the new house has a big seam right down the middle of the island countertop) so as soon as I recover from the down payment and moving expenses, I will have Granite Depot upgrade me from Builder's grade to a more exotic/ level 5 stone at least in the kitchen for now.

We were referred to granite depot by a friend who had a great experience. Our experience was…read moretotally opposite. Mr. Balla the owner came with us to the granite yard to help us out in picking our slab. Then met us at our house that was still being built. He measured all the counters and told us it could be done with one slab. We signed the contract and payed our deposits. All was great till the day off installation. The crew done the installation and we noticed two huge problems. The first huge issue was the granite next to our fridge was not even close to color or texture than the other counters. I called mr. Balla then he said yes it's from a different slab and our other option was to put two together and have a small seam down the middle. That would have been fine if I was given some options. Instead he tried to "sneak" a different piece in there hoping I wouldn't say anything. Then I notice the granite on the bar was far from being leveled. So I had them remove it and level the support brackets. While lifting the granite to put it back the granite cracked in 3. I checked the brackets to see if they were installed evenly after the techs left and they were worse. Mr. Balla came to the house that evening and told us we are lucky that it cracked because now we could get our piece done by the fridge with one pice because they are going to have to purchase another slab to get my bar completed. A couple of days pass the supervisor of the first crew came out the next time and finished the bar and the piece by the fridge and did a good job. Then I receive a bill via email for 109.51. Mr. Balla said its for the piece of granite by the fridge. He called me and insisted I pay the money or he would come to my house and have the piece by my fridge taken and replaced with a non matching piece . I refused to pay anything more than we agreed. Stay away from this company.
