BEST IN TOWN chicken tenders / chicken strips…read more Sometimes the answer to fast food for dinner for us happens to be picking up chicken strips / tenders and potato wedges. That we always seem to do at the Marathon gas station on - I think it's Broadway St. I'm lousy at directions. It's the Marathon that's on the same road as Jerry's Jamestown Market and Bellisio Foods. But, just yesterday, we decided to pull into Main Express / the Sunoco station on Main Street. It was a stop for hubby's libations but he asked if I'd like to go in an grab a slice of pizza for a quick lunch. Good idea. Bad idea. Pizza slices had obviously been in the warming case for who knows how long. Pepperoni and cheese on that pizza was dark and shriveled. Quite disgusting. Sure I was a bit peckish but I wasn't THAT hungry. So I opted to try ONE of Main's chicken tenders / strips. Should have bought several. The chicken tender / strip was outstanding! Crispy, nicely seasoned batter surrounding an amazingly moist, good-sized slice of chicken breast. Totally surpasses chicken strips offered at the Marathon station. We'll be back.

Pine Tree Cafe & Pizza used to be the Family Donut shop in Londonderry, Ohio. The new owners took…read morethis place to the next level. The donuts were always wonderful! Now they are a little better. They are bigger and seem fresher. They are soft and taste great. The filled donuts are definitely filled. You get some of the filling in every bite. Let's talk about the apple fritters and the cinnamon rolls. They are huge! My pictures are not optical illusions. They really are bigger than my hand. Just the size is impressive but the taste is equally impressive. Again, these are wonderful! Now for the Pizza. The pizza is awesome! We had the thin crust half sausage and half pepperoni. There was plenty of sauce, cheese, and toppings. Look at my pictures. Plenty of toppings. The pizza is really, really good. Pine Trees pizza in my opinion is way better than the chain pizza places and rival any of the mom and pop places in Chillicothe. With the pizza we also got a small order of chicken strips. I'm not sure how these were cooked. It tastes like either microwaved or air fried. The chicken strips were nothing to brag about. We stop in here every time we're in town. We look forward to it. I'm glad they kept the same recipe and improved on it for the donuts. They are great! If you're ever driving through the small town of Londonderry, stop in and give Pine Tree Cafe a try. You'll love it too.

The pizza is dry and over cooked half of the time. Tonight 02/17 we went through to get a hot chocolate. The hot chocolate quite literally taste like ammonia. It was sour, acidic and burnt our mouth with a sickening turn your stomach smell (that we could only smell with the lid off). On top of the food not being all that great, the service isn't very pleasant to deal with. If I had it my way, pine tree wouldn't get half a star. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture before taking it back to get a refund. But with the lid off, it looked like a thick layer of lumpy coco powder with a mix of ammonia.

Now operating as the Pine Tree Cafe and Pizza, it's not the cleanest or most up to date operation, but it's worth the drive just for the apple Fritter. Perfect combination of apple and funnel cake, it's as large as your face, definitely shareable, unless you're a glutton for the sugar crash.

Sixth Sense Brewing in Jackson turned out to be exactly the kind of place I hoped to stumble into…read moreon a hot early evening, especially after spending time exploring the Jackson County Courthouse. I was thirsty, a little worn out, and definitely ready for air conditioning, so the brewery's name felt almost prophetic. As if some part of me already knew a cold beer was waiting around the corner. And then it really was. I turned the corner, saw the sign and laughed at the coincidence. Weird, eh? Inside, the welcome was immediate. A friendly hostess found me a table with a power outlet, which is always a nice victory when you're traveling and trying to stay charged up. settled in for two hours that were genuinely pleasant. Two light beers hit the spot without knocking me out of ketosis, and the grilled boneless chicken "wings" were exactly the kind of simple, satisfying plate that I wanted after a long hot day. My waitress was lovely, attentive without hovering, and the whole crowd had that upbeat, easygoing energy that makes a brewery restaurant feel like a community space rather than just a place to grab a drink. Between the cold beer, the air conditioning, the friendly vibe, and the chance to unwind after driving all day, Sixth Sense made if feel like they already knew exactly what I needed before I even sat down.
