GOOD AMBIANCE AND COMFORT Open for breakfast, lunch and tea…read moreseven days a week the cafe here provides a comprehensive service in a pleasant environment. At around 4.30 pm on a January Saturday there were a few customers who seemed happy enough with their tea and cakes. The 'smile and greet' from the serving lady did not happen and she told us the closing time was 4.45 when in fact it was 5 pm.(pic) We wondered why ! We only wanted tea for two and this quickly appeared and we paid the reasonable price of £3. Later another staff member convinced us that they have good allergy policies in place with little risk of cross contamination of food on display. Parking is free and adjacent, easy disabled access, comfy cushioned chairs and everything spotlessly clean with a grade 5 hygiene certificate on display. The rest of this trading complex includes a Food Hall with high priced but apparently good quality items. There is also a garden sales area and a Trading Post both of which are worth a visit. We also took the footpath walk down to the river. STARS GAINED FOR; Menu range. Allergy product knowledge. General satisfaction. Likely to return.Own free Car Park. Ambiance and decor. These have the authentic architectural feature of the cellar arches which is a lovely characteristic. It's a cute coffee shop, quite a good size inside and there are seats outside too. Okay, so for pseudo (remember, I can't touch the hard stuff!) coffee this place is pretty good. Which leads me to assume that the real stuff is good too. Service is great, friendly efficient and accommodating. The manager seems quite endearing. He spent alot of time discussing arranging the outdoor seating. Evidently, quite conscientious about kerbside appeal.

The coffee is fair-trade. As a result we were drawn in to try a late breakfast and were very disappointed. It offers bargain food at top prices. The bacon was nice but the sausages were awful- cheap, frozen and tasteless. The hash brown was the usual frozen type although the half slice of fried bread did look as though it was cut by hand. It Was a real shame about the quality of the meat, particularly when they have a top quality butchers a few doors away. The service was poor and we had to ask for serviettes and sauces (packet, not bottle). All in all, we won't be back again.
