With a title like "The Bay" it makes you think of Home and Away, doesn't it? Well it should. It feels a lot like that, as does a like of the stores and people around here. Like everyone knows everyone else, and theres a strong community vibe. It's a simple place. Not heaps to sell, but all really well priced, so its respectable. I think these days its hard to find a milkshake for less than $5, but here they do them for $4. To eat, they can make you up a roll just how you like it, or there are pies. Home made, I'm pretty sure, I can see they making them out the back. And then theres the deserts. This place doesn't have heaps, and nothing extra ordinary or worth travelling for, but a simple, humble bakery such as this one should satisfy on a lazy Sunday at Maroubra beach.

Pastries are fresh daily and taste amazing, particularly the chocolate croissants :)

Every morning, I can smell the bread rolls from my house. Such a pleasant whiff. And many times Ive seen the rolls coming out of the oven. Its great that its fresh, and my family can have fresh breads. They're soft and crispy. There is also a variety of sweet and savory pastries. I love their croisants and cheese and bacon rolls and apple turnovers. You should try these if you're ever there. And did I mention how many sweets this businss has? So many selection of slices, I didnt know which to choose, so I tried it all. My favorite was the caramel slices. They also sell home made meat pies. These pies are to die for. They're hot and savory, and very delicious. My daughter is usually picky, but one time I brought it out of chance for her after school. And now she'll be ''I want the same meat pie where you got me last time". I go here every time ever since. Their coffee is very good. On their coffee cups, it shows the coffee beans many awards in 2014. There is heaps of parking spots. It is also very convenient because the bakery is connected to the woolworths, post office, pharmacy, newsagent, fruit and vegetable shop, and the chicken store, hair salon and a Chinese restaurant. Overall the store is very welcoming, and has heaps of food items to choose from. It is also inexpensive. It is worth coming over and trying it out for yourself and see what Im talking about.

I do not know anything about Greek Cakes, but I do know about eating cakes and cake shops. However…read moreI have never seen a cake shop like this, I was blown away, it was truly the most amazing cake shop I have ever walked into. The window alone of this shop had more cakes than most cake shops have in the whole shop and inside was just like cake overload, there were cakes everywhere and they all looked beautiful and to die for, The cakes were surprisingly reasonable in price, many around $30 which considering the enormity of them and the level of their decoration was great value. I couldn't resist buying a huge cream caramel served in a rectangular foil takeaway tin. YUM. Check it out.

Yeah, its pretty good…read more And as advertised - a cake shop with some Greek influence. The window has a lot of alluring produce - some pretty impressive cake making. When you go inside, there a pretty nice woman at the counter, who I'm wondering might be Eleni; not sure. Either way, the place has both cakes for parties and events and a some small stuff to eat now as you're passing. And there's a few bit-sized deserts like Turkish delights and baklava and the like, either for now or to buy in bulk to cater for an event. I'm not cake buff, but the place seems nice, and if you're in need to cater for an event, and maybe with a bit more variety or theme, then I would recommend stopping by to see whats available. It has the catering feel to it, so I'd be looking in if I were organising a party.

This is an…read moreamazing little café, stock full of so many different sweet treats, looks like you could try something different every day and never run out. It is a coffee shop, so there's the coffee to be had, but I'm more drawn in by what you can have with it; coffee macaroons and biscotti and pretzels and baklava and so on and so on, and it really does go on, its surpriseing how much they have. And I like the variety too, theres a window for huge elaborate cakes, and then another for more in-the-moment little cakes and strudels and deserts, and then theres a section that I think is ethnic cakes and deserts - this is where I found the baklava, along with a lot of other things I hadn't really heard of before. And its such a comfortable place to be, as well. The place is really spruced up and suave for a Maroubra café, very impressive really. Anyway, now I've discovered this place, I don't think I'll be cafeing anywhere else soon. This is my café of choice.

The cheese smelled like a kraft single slice and had been microwaved so that it soaked into the base of the fairly stale/firm bun. There was an entire solid slice of onion instead of a few rings. The pineapple was straight from the tin and the hole served as a swimming pool for some kind of BBQ sauce/juice. It came with a "calamari" ring which was really some kind of fishmeal ring. The basket of chips were battered and were unfortunately the highlight of the dish. The iced coffee I had was also ok.

From me, the highest recommendation to scoot on out to Maroubra Junction and dine at Kitchen by…read moreJamie. I like food with a story, and I'm charmed by this one, as years ago, Jamie and Daniela invited me (and some friends) over to their place for the concept 'Dine with...', a sort of dinner party with a professional chef. It combined wonderful food that you couldn't make yourself with the comfortable feeling of home. That same feeling has been transferred to their new restaurant, that feels both high-end and polished, but also like hanging out with friends or family. It was all the more comforting that we stopped by for Sunday lunch when there are the Sunday roast specials. We couldn't resist. Possibly the largest Yorkshire pudding that I've ever seen, a very rich gravy, perfectly crisp roasted potatoes, carrots, green beans and for me: roast pork (delicious, tender, perfect) and for husband: roast beef (tasty, he said). Our vegetarian guest had homemade gnocchi, the first time she'd tried it, and was impressed with it, as well as the generous sprinkle of almonds. The dishes we had did remind me of my first meeting with Jamie and Daniela. The food is beautiful and of a quality that's clear a professional is in charge here (he describes his cuisine as combining British and French). It's beautifully plated on gorgeous plates. But it's also not fussy or complicated food, and the real emphasis is on food that is perfectly tasty. We managed to get through the desserts too (that came with the roast dinner). A rocky road brownie, replete with marshmallows and dried fruit; and one of the best sticky date puddings I've ever had. The food really is wonderful and the hospitality unbeatable. Do go check it out!
