Labcorp's staff are helpful. I have no complaints about the lab, but Labcorp should go after CareFirst for wasting the Labcorp staff's time. When CareFirst makes errors and their billing system is completely inefficient, Labcorp's staff have to handle complaints from their customers who are CareFirst's members. Also, Labcorp then has to resubmit claims. This all keeps Labcorp customers waiting in line while employees are having to answer billing questions from customers.
Members, labs, and pharmacies are paying a heavy price for CareFirst's organizational inefficiency. After I went on my husband's policy, (apparently they kept both my former and current member IDs active); CareFirst neglected to update my records and instead CareFirst had a third party "Rawlings Financial Services" send me an invoice in an intimidating format instructing me to contact my pharmacy and lab to resolve the issue as if these companies had made an error. The pharmacy and lab assured me they indeed had the correct policy number, and each of these companies told my spouse and me they had repeatedly attempted to resubmit the claims for processing but that CareFirst repeatedly refused to accept them. When I called CareFirst regarding the pharmacy charges I was referred to another company, a third party representative who, after I spoke with three people, said they will resolve this simple clerical error on CareFirst's end. They apologized for CareFirst's error. When I called CareFirst regarding the lab charges they told me I would need to initiate a claims review process by sending my information to Kentucky. This is completely unnecessary and I am now in communication with the insurance broker. It would have been more cost effective for CareFirst to simply update their records (reflecting the correct policy # based on the accurate information CareFirst stated they had), instead of completely wasting valuable time and creating frustration. If you are a member of CareFirst this is what you are paying for and this is an example of why insurance costs are high. This single administrative error CareFirst made involved the Safeway and CVS pharmacy staff (costing these companies time), approximately five CareFirst staff, a third party financial company, a third party pharmacy billing management team, and a broker. More than 20 people were involved in this single process. As of today, I received yet another invoice from Rawlings financial services LLC. stating they are a debt collector. CareFirst is a nightmare organization and their business practices are questionable. read more
