I have 60 Check-Ins here and I may have missed a few! That's how much I love this place. They have the best Street Tacos within 50 miles! Wait! What! What the hell is a Street Taco? Allow me to educate you. Definition- A Street Taco is a very small soft taco made with a corn tortilla. I measured the tortilla here and it's 3 1/4 in diameter. That's small! The tortilla is very often doubled. More about that later. They are intended to be eaten with one hand. They only have three ingredients: your protein, minced onions and chopped cilantro. What the hell again? What happened to cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, and twenty other things I get on my tacos? That's American style and not found on a traditional street taco. My little place has seven protein choices: Al Pastor, Asada, Barbacoa, Lengua, Suadero, Pollo and Tripa. I'm an Asada guy myself. Ordering- This place has an outside walk-up window. You mention your protein, # of tacos, and red or green sauce or both. Nobody orders just one. Typical orders for one person are 4-6. The post-pandemic cost is about $1.50 each. Consuming- Street Tacos are often called two-bite- tacos. If you are a dainty eater, maybe three. Chomp, chomp, and maybe chomp and it's gone. Here each chomp is accompanied by rolling eyes and moans of delight! However, if you want to be identified as a sophisticated Street Taco aficionado, you do this. When you get your order, you immediately separate one of those doubled tortillas, put one aside and then chomp away on your order. These are tacos so you know you're going to spill some right? I think there is a law that requires that! So, when your almost finished, you take all your spillage, put it in your saved tortilla, and now have another taco. Genius! I once sat near a table where a little girl watched me very carefully as I did this. She looked at the mess on her plate, figured it out and laughed and clapped with delight! Her parent's loved it! Note #1- There is a market inside the building where you can grab a beer or other drink to go with your tacos and also order other types of Mexican food. Note #2- There is a covered pavilion with some picnic tables and weather permitting, they are a great place to eat! 5 Stars! read more

My fiance grew up in Avon Park and she raves about this place! So every time we take the drive to visit her family, we definitely have to make a stop at this amazing Mexican grocery store which also serves up delicious tacos. Hole in the wall yelp adventure at its best! This is the perfect two or three bite taco! Pick from the list of meats that are cooked on a screaming hot cooktop. It gives the meat that right amount of char, but still tender on the inside. My favorites of course is the carne asada (beef) and pastor (pork). For something different, try the barbacoa. Not quite sure what cut of meat they used but it tasted like oxtail and brisket. Kinda fatty, but in a good way! Try the lengua if you are even more adventurous! I get them the way they are served: onions, cilantro, lime, side of green sauce (med spice). These tacos pack so much flavor in their itty bitty house made corn tortillas. 5 or 6 tacos usually does the trick :) There is outside seating in a covered patio by the food stand. But if the Florida heat gets too much, you can sit inside the grocery store where there are 3 small tables next to the drink section. I hear you can also buy beer from right there and drink it. They also serve other dishes near the table seating area and will have to try them next time. If you ever find your way around Highlands County: Avon Park, Sebring, Lake Placid be sure to stop by. First and foremost why not the four stars! Well the sauce can be improved, a backbone of a taco is the salsa(sauce) and also due to not knowing what time to stop by! On some occasions is very hot and tasty and some others is not! Maybe it was closing hours and I had in my 5 taco plate a cold rim tortilla! Outside they have a carport shed to eat under is very hot also close to where they dump the trash gives it an unpleasant smell! This food is good not great but good enough to in your car or at home! If this was improved to my personal opinion I would gently push it up to a hard 4! read more

Avon Park's hidden gem! BEST mini tacos!! I don't what it is about these mini tacos, but I go back whenever I'm visiting and get these with my family. They use to be $1 per taco, but they went up 25 cents, womp womp, I don't care cause I'll still get them. The options they have are pollo (chicken), carne asada (beef), lengua (beef tongue), and I forgot what else they had but don't worry for you pork lovers they have that too :) The taco consists of two mini tortilla's then topped with meat, cilantro, and onion. Perfecto! It gets served with a lime and two sauces on the side, red and green. The red sauce is a little spicy, but just that right hint of spicyness. Definitely put both sauces on top of each taco. This place also has a small restaurant inside, haven't tried that yet, but also looks good. They also have a small grocery store connected with the restaurant. Wow! This place has made me fall in love with tacos all over again, in fact, every time I come my heart smiles. The tacos are authentic with onions, cilantro & green sauce (avocado hot sauce) - just to die for. I live in South Florida, so my rides up North to visit my boyfriend make this our "go to" spot. Everytime I want tacos I think of this place and then call to place and order and regret it, the customer service is horrible over the phone and in person outside when trying to order tacos. For example, the amount of sauces they give you sometimes isn't always accurate depending on how many different orders you placed and when you ask for more they say one per customer, like if it's extra just say that and I'll pay for it. Great Carne Asada tacos. My wife and I have been looking for authentic "street" tacos for quite some time now. These definitely fit the bill. Fresh ingredients, made to order, friendly service in the back of a convenience store. Had a couple Jarritos with it :) Very inexpensive. We got our tacos loaded: onion, cilantro, tomato, lettuce, cheese. The tacos are served with a lime and green sauce which was fabulous. read more

AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD! Good was a great stop. You order at a booth outside and have the option of sitting at covered picnic tables or inside the building which is a gas station. The tacos are $1.25 and amazing! I had four because I was really hungry. They have chicken, steak, and pork. We had to order rice and beans inside (unfortunately the lady inside didn't speak any English, thank goodness for those 6 years of Spanish in school). We also ordered a herchada (don't know how to spell) which is a cinnamon creamy drink. Overall great service and great food! Understand that this is not a fine dinning place but a great stop for great food! read more

Today Me and my husband visited as for is my birthday and wanted to try a different place something small . I ask for Gorditas and tacos the person a Spanish lady in the back refused to sell me the tacos . She did sold me the Gorditas and my husband Got A fajita mix . When she gave us the order I ask for green sauce (mild sauce) for my husband and red sauce for me (hot sauce). Again she refused to gave me red sauce, they have a stand outside also so I ask her if I can go get one outside and she said "no I doubt they gave you any" there was a gentleman with her and he turn to the back and gave me the sauce . Then when I open my Gorditas she gave me some kind of meat that look like tuna ! I did realized that I didn't specified what kind of meat I wanted in the Gorditas but isn't that what they supposed to do before serving anything. So unhappy because of all the places I have been this was a horrible experience! I will definitely not comeback to this place and will make sure all of my friends and family will not spend their hard earned money here. read more
