The tourism office pointed us to Cousin & Compagnie, which offered 5 tastes for 15 euros (compare THAT to what you pay in Napa!). Since it's a wine store, we were given a variety of labels from different areas. The store is the oldest independent wine seller in Bordeaux. We learned about each of the unique wines. Pricing was very reasonable, we met some German & Irish fellow travelers. A gem of a place and nice afternoon.

This place is conveniently located…read morenear the Grand Theater, and the tourism office where you'd likely have started your wine tour if you've signed up for any. But honestly, even if you don't plan to buy anything, come take a look! The spiral staircase is so beautiful, showcasing many different wines. As you walked up the stairs to the higher levels, you'll get to see wine from all the legendary chateaux, in different vintages. We were exclaiming as we recognize the names. Friendly staff.

Of course your are mesmerized by the sheer number of wines located around the walls - all the way up 5 stories! Gregg M and I found what I thought were some good Bordeaux wines for a good price. I can honestly say that when in Bordeaux again I will definitely go back here to find good wines. Also, if you don't know what your looking for - ask. The staff was very friendly and always wiling to help with your selection. Don't be intimidated by the prices of some of the wines. They do have many of the first growths, but they also have some of the other growths at very affordable prices.

It was nice that they offered several bottle sizes since sometimes nothing short of a magnum will do :) There was a full wall of spirits available, and they have a shop of nothing but sparkling wines across the street. Badie is one of the oldest and largest wine shops in central Bordeaux. There is a seperate shop altogether for Champagne located directly opposite the main shop. It is definitely worth visiting Badie if you are wine shopping in Bordeaux, where you will be very well advised by some hardened old timers of the French wine industry.
