To think I never would have discovered this lovely local pizzeria if the 48A hadn't taken a detour this way! I saw the gemütlich-looking Gastgarten from the bus one day. I was surprised that such a nice-looking place was hiding in my neighborhood with me completely unaware. The very next thing I did of course was to check the yelp reviews which were good. So I put it on my huge list of places to try and today was the day!
It has everything my family is looking for in a place: friendly service, relaxed atmosphere, simple tasty cuisine and good prices. The waitresses are very nice to children. They also think on their feet. My son wanted to order a pizza diavolo and the waitress pointed out that their version includes sardines. She avoided a minor dinner disaster with that thoughtfulness! As a parent I'm always appreciative people who help me navigate the challenge of eating out with children successfully!
This is good standard Hausmannskost, Italian style. The bruschetta were great and the gnocchi Gorgonzola was delicious. The pizzas are also superb. The mixed salad was very fresh, though I'd leave it out next time because there's no dressing, just oil and vinegar which happens to bore me. The tagliatelle verde carbonara was nice but I'll be trying my way through their other pastas looking for my true favorite.
This is a great place to go if you happen to be in the area. read more
