I sort of, kind of, very badly speak some Spanish (mostly food items), but I'm not good at it yet…read more I speak a number of other languages better than Spanish, but I am trying to get better. So I asked, right off, if they spoke English, but if not, we could struggle with my awful Spanish. She spoke English way better than I speak Spanish, so we were good. I got cacahuates, cochinitos (a bit over baked, but still delicious), orejas, and estropajo floreado (I read and write Spanish way way better than I speak it), but I forgot the bolillos I'd intended to get. And they didn't have niño envuelto, but they may have it some other day. There are so many delicious Mexican sweet cakes that they can't possibly have all of them all the time. Best thing is that I have enough sweets for a special breakfast tomorrow morning, and enough for the rest of the week, too. Next time, I'll remember the bolillos and maybe some cemitas for sandwiches. Or some telera rolls. They were so kind, especially with not making me stumble through my awful Spanish, that this will become a regular spot for buying special treats. Unlike some other Mexican panaderias, they don't treat you poorly if you're not fluent in their dialect of Spanish.

This time, I thought I could try it with bananas instead of strawberries. The one I had from MacArthur literally tasted like dessert made of condensed milk, a slight tang that resembled cream cheese, topped with a scoop of their vanilla ice cream. Sadly, this one was not what I expected. It was really sour. Tasted like it was made of sour yogurt. I think their recipe is different and I didn't care for the sourness. I got the Mexican street corn too and it was ok. I guess I have more of a sweet tooth than sour.

Yesterday on my mind, I had the sense for a cheese cheeseburger at first I was gonna go someplace else but then I was like Tacos Don Nacho has cheeseburgers so I went there for 6-asada, 6-pollo, 6- carnitas tacos and a cheeseburger yesterday. Mmmmm! The cheeseburger was darn juicy good so I came back today and bought (3) more cheeseburgers. The cheeseburger from yesterday filled me up. I ate two today and I am stuffed. Because this is some of the best authentic Mexican food around! First, I am addicted to their consomé. On a cool evening I drink it like coffee. It's crazy delicious with a big squeeze of lime, has lots of chile flavor and just the right spice level for me. A 16 oz cup is $2.50. Drizzle it on their tacos for an OMG flavor punch. Second, their signature brisket "vapor" tacos are shredded, marinated, super tender and flavorful -- another of my local favorites. Again, especially with that consomé. Third, they also serve super tender carnitas that just melt in your mouth. (But I do recommend skipping their dry carne asada). Tacos were $1.75 each. The man taking orders is super friendly. It is a food truck and cash only. Parking lot gets full but a spot will usually open up. If you come, be sure to call ahead and enjoy some the best real Mexican food in the city!
