We are here in Winchester for the Beer Cheese Festival on Saturday, so we thought why not. The Beer Cheese is made locally by Bootleg and oh so good with a hint of heat. I ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara and my husband ordered the Eggplant Parmesan Sandwich. My Carbonara was creamy and the bacon perfectly salty and the pasta cooked soft to the bite. Perfect! The Eggplant sandwich was very good, albeit a bit messy! The plate of pasta is a hefty portion and I hated having to leave it. Great plate to split! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. My friends and I were headed back to Cincinnati from the Gorge and wanted to find a place with pasta. This is the place! It's about 30 minutes from Red River Gorge and in the middle of a small town. It's a small dining area that could probably accommodate around 10 groups, we got seated right away. Our server was sweet and helpful. The food was delicious, I got Chicken Alfredo which I haven't had in years and it hit the spot! The chicken was tasty and the alfredo was the perfect noodle size and consistency. I was very excited to try La Trattoria as there aren't many Italian restaurants in the area & it's been there for a few years. The place is beautiful, great decor, tin ceiling, big old wooden bar, but that's about it. Went in & had to call over a waitress after 20 minutes of sitting. We knew what we wanted as we looked up the menu online. Waited 45 minutes for food! Then had to chase down the waitress for silverware! Not once did she come to refill drinks or even check on us. The food is fabulous! Very authentic Italian. They're pizza is the best in town by far. They're Greek salad is one of my favorites. Their service is spot on and very personal. Let me say this first , the food is exceptional! Never had a bad bite from this place. Meatballs are the pizzas That's the good , the next is for the owner to read. Get you a motivated staff of waitresses and you will absolutely triple your alcohol sales, I waited for ever on drinks and witnessed many tables doing the same. Personally I would've had 2 maybe 3 more drinks on the evening. Get you a bus boy and pay him well , have him ready to bust tables the second someone gets up . I have never had an Italian dining experience before that had no bread anywhere. We were disappointed in the food; the chicken in the chicken parm was tasteless. The cheese in the sauce tasted like it had gone to mold and it left a decidedly weird, not-parmesan taste. The salad was fresh, but I asked for no green peppers and got little squares of them anyway that had to be carefully dodged. Our server apologized probably 7-8 times during our visit for the slow service, for us having to ask for napkins and silverware, for more slow service; we were friendly and tried to stay out of her hair so she could work, but we sat without things we needed more than not (like a clean knife and more water and a napkin). It wasn't very busy but it looked like she was running the bar and most of the tables without much help. We have no reason to ever go back. read more

And then I asked if we could order food that we were ready and he said I'm not ready to take your order. He is the only one that has even looked at us. The 2 bartenders never even looked at us. People were coming In and standing at the bar and never be waited on just to leave!! We will never be back. We ordered gluten free pizza where we paid 5$ extra per pizza. Went in to La Trattoria on a Friday night. Food was solid. Had the chicken parmigiana. Big portion, sauce was delicious (tasted homemade). My only issue was after taking my drink/food order I never saw my server again. Asked a random bartender for my bill. Still couldn't find my server. Paid with cash and left my bill/cash on the bar. Dinner tonight with my wife at La Trattoria was a bit disappointing. But first let's say that the service was good, quick and friendly, with refills. We had the fried cheese sticks for an appetizer. They were obviously a frozen variety with too much breading. I expected better from a decent Italian restaurant. The wife's lasagna included a decent salad and breadstick, but the dish was pretty thin in pasta and meat sauce. Tasted OK but not great. My spaghetti was listed on the menu as having four large meatballs. It came with two. Taste was OK. No bread or side with the spaghetti. We felt the spaghetti and lasagna at Fazoli's is better, comes with a salad and unlimited breadsticks, at a lesser price. Sorry, but this was a C- meal for $50+ with tip. read more

Hands down the best restaurant in Winchester! They are super careful and safe when it comes to food allergies (I have a shellfish allergy and the dish I like the most typically comes with shrimp). Two draw backs, if we didn't know about where the restaurant is, we might have trouble spotting it as we drove by. The sign needs to be bigger and faces the Main St. instead of the way it is now. First visit and was pleasantly surprised. Very nice interior and was very clean. Ordered the bruschetta, it was ok, but a little pricey $10 for just four small pieces. I then got the penne alla vodka(sp) and breadsticks. The pasta was really good and had alot of sausage and a few shrimp on it. The breadsticks were kind of bland, did not taste homemade to me, not that they claimed they were. Once again the only negative was the price. $19 for a bowl of pasta.
