This place was ok, the food lacked flavor. It had a cute patio though, service was ok. I feel it was overpriced for what we got. We had the fried mozzarella and steak with some kind of cheese topping.

We were craving some Italian food and La Trattoria's menu looked delicious. I didn't check out any pics of the place so I was so excited to see that it was a restaurant on the second floor with balcony seating! Yay! We were initially seated at a table in the dining room, but after requesting a table on one of the balconies, we were moved as soon as one became available. We really enjoyed the people watching, especially since the Callejoneadas meet and start their tour right below. So fun! We ordered a bottle of wine and a couple of soups (I got the tomato cream and he got the minestrone) and both were delicious! They also provide bread with the most delicious butter I have ever had in my entire life. I'm serious. I wanted to throw this stuff in my purse and take it home with me! For dinner, he got the filet medallions in gorgonzola sauce and I got the spaghetti carbonara. Both were AMAZING. The menu is really big, so you're bound to find something that you'll love! Service was perfection, vibes were perfection, views were perfection, wine was perfection, food was perfection... you get the point! Just go already!

Following a frustrating car hire ride to a new city I required food and drink stat. My hotel concierge was happy to point me to La Trattoria, about a 20 second walk away, on Jardin de la Union. The best seats in the house - and the only ones worth inhabiting (IMO) - are those on the small balconies lining the second floor restaurant As soon as one opened up my server asked if I'd like to relocate and it immediately turned my frown upside down. A seat on La Trattoria's balcony gives you an ideal view of everything going on in the plaza below, the busiest of all plazas in Guanajuato. I shot a quick photo from this vantage point and sent it to my brother who immediately responded; he knew exactly where I was. Service was excellent, the wine flowed, and my starter - a Marlin Taco - was delicious. The main courses, a Pasta Puttanesca and a Pasta Carbonara, were good but suffered the same problem as I experienced elsewhere in town: They'd have been 98% more enjoyable had they been served steaming hot. Maybe request as much when you order your entree here. Even a tepid pasta did little to stop the joy I experienced from my balcony seat. Below me the city throbbed with costumed Calleonadas, teenage girls getting professionally photographed in their Quinceañera gowns, a side-view of the impressive Teatro Juarez, and Mariachi bands assembling for the nightly music extravaganza. If you've just arrived in town I think a balcony seat at La Trattoria is somewhat of a must.

The staff was accommodating, quick, and welcoming. The food was well made (shrimp tacos, vegetarian lasagna (I think), and side of potatoes. I would opt out of this and probably try something else if you decisive to get the ribeye combo. The potatoes was very dry and just not that appetizing. Their sangria was mediocre, so I would probably try something else on the menu. Also, try to get a seating near the balcony for a great view! (No reservation was needed when I went in)

This place was really great, the view from the balcony was amazing and easy to get a table and sit. The tuna appirizer dish was great and so was the pizza. It's easy to fall into tourist trap locations where the food is meh but this place was delish.

This is a very attractive property overlooking the main plaza. Get balcony seating if you can to watch the street scene. Started with an nice rose from Ensenada, crisp and a nice fruit. Started with the Caprese salad, nice tomatoes and not to much balsamic. Ordered the 4 cheese pizza, take my advice, don't. The thin crust is overwhelmed by a mount of cheese with no discernible flavor. I switched to a chicken cutlet and green salad which were both really good. They took the pizza of the bill no problems. All in all a nice place to eat with good service, reasonable prices and a wonderful view of the square.

I've been traveling to this area of central Mexico on business for more than a decade and one city that never disappoints is the very old but well preserved city of Guanajuato. Very cool town. This picturesque town which is nestled into a narrow valley surrounded by steep hills and mountains. It was settled in 1522 by the Spanish after silver was discovered here. It is known for its narrow and winding streets as well as its tunnels constructed under the city to allow rain water to run off without flooding the silver mines. La Trattoria is strategically situated kitty-corner from the town square which is covered with uniquely sculpted shade trees...a very comfortable place to hang out for relief from the sun. You gotta love La Trattoria's tables that cantilever out in the fresh air on the second floor of the building. We started our dinner with a pair of appetizers including the Fried Mix - shrimp & calamari with a garlic Chipotle sauce and Mozzarella in Carriage smothered in their spicy hot sauce. Both brought the heat we wanted and expected. At the reco' of a local at our table, I jumped for the Divine Comedy...a delicious combo of beef tenderloin medallions w/ a 4-Cheese sauce and shrimp w/ a sweet sherry sauce. Even Dante would have loved this dish. Fantastico! Others at our table tried some of the signature Italian pasta dishes including the Spaghetti Bolognese and the ricotta and spinach Stuffed Cannelloni. Life is always good w/ fresh made pasta. Cinco estrellas.

Recomendado.

La Trattoria was awesome. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was just what we were looking for - romantic, quiet, great views, good service, soft lighting. The waiters were very friendly and were knowledgeable about the wine list. I ordered the Quattro Formaggio (Four cheese fettuccine) which was pretty tasty. It actually did have International cheeses incorporated in the sauce. (I say this because I've ordered other cream pastas in Mexico and they try to substitute in Mexican cheeses which just don't taste good in that context.) My husband ordered the Spaghetti Pomodoro, which he said he liked more than my dish. They brought out a complimentary nacho/red salsa type of sauce with breadsticks and bread. It was a little spicy but very welcomed as we snacked on that while we waited for our meal. We visited on the evening of "El día de las flores" (The day of flowers) festival and sat out on the balcony, which made for very pretty views as the locals were celebrating with flowers everywhere. All in all, it had a great atmosphere, good service and good food. We both ordered a meal, we both had wine and shared a dessert and spent about $65 US dollars.

Good selection of dishes, nice view. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, they gave us different suggestions on what to do in the afternoon. The second floor has a view to the Theater and jardín de la union. There was live music at the jardín which made it an enjoyable experience.

Food was delicious, what made it better was the balcony table and service. We Ordered a hawaiian pizza and Mar y Tierra dish. Both where excellent!

My 10 year old daughter was getting tired of the local food and wanted something "American-ish", she just wanted food options that she was familiar with! This little hidden gem is like a 5 minutes walk from El Jardín de la Union. Find the stairs and start climbing! Believe me! It's worth it! The stairs take you to a doorway and surprise! More stairs! But by now you can SMELL the food, so these next few stairs there is a little pep in your step as you get closer to the next floor level! There is a wonderful selection of food you can't go wrong! I ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo and it was delicious! Creamy, well made Alfredo! Nothing against the Latin influenced fettuccine Alfredo, you know...the kind with sliced ham, ground beef or tomatoes in it (i hate those types of surprises in my fettuccine alfredo but have come to expect that even if it isn't in the food description on the menu). Traditional Italian food is what you are gonna find here! My daughter Little-Miss-Picky-Eater was equally pleased with her Penne Burro pasta plate! penne pasta tossed with melted butter. She loved it! The portions are perfect! Definitely worth your dollar and on top of that...the VIEW is phenomenal! Dinner started with some delicious bread and dipping oils. For dinner I ordered the Tuna entree and it was DELICIOUS! The tuna was seared and cooked to a medium rare and served on top of a bed of vegetables. It was so fresh and delicious. We washed it down with the house sangria, which I watched the make at the bar right in front of me. So I know it was fresh and it was the best sangria I've ever had. Decor was modern and upscale. And the service was great! Our waitress was kind and patient with my terrible Spanish and our food came out quick. This place was definitely more expensive than your typical food in Mexico, but Guanajuato is a tourist town, so it was expected. It was also not expensive compared to American dinner prices. It was about 900 pesos for us all to eat and have drinks, which is about 55 American dollars! Overall, I definitely recommend stopping here for dinner any night you're here!

Not too week, not too strong. Not too sweet, but clear sweet citrus flavors. Then we shared their signature salad. It was an unusual combination of ingredients and yet very tasty. My partner and I were both hankering for pizza, so we took a risk. Is there good pizza in GTO? The answer is a definitive yes. I got their signature pizza. Except for the pistachios, which I love but we're a tad weird on a pizza, it was amazing. I'm not usually a thin crust lover, but it was perfectly done. My partner gambled on a pepperoni pizza. It wasn't pink! It seems like much pepperoni in this region is some strange pink substance, but not here. True tasty Italian pepperoni. We were too full to consider desert, but I look forward to going back to try it. Our service was good. Overall, a perfect dinner.

If you're in town, this place is worth checking out if just for the ambiance and excellent margaritas. Pros: Great feeling and decor. Really a place that feels spacious, up-scale and hip Jazz on weekends Service was good Food presentation was visually very nice Cocktails were great (I had a Margarita) Cons: Menu sounded good but execution was clumsy for our taste. It was disappointing because they obviously used high-quality ingredients. For example in the Pasta with cream sauce and salmon, there was too much of a sour note (citrus or vinegar, I assume) which made the combination of flavors just not work. I've had seafood / curry-based pastas that were excellent and balanced, but this wasn't one of them. Similarly, the Arranchera was good but the combination of flavors wasn't balanced (not enough salt and bitter, too much sour). Bottom line is that there is a lot to like about this place, but if the food isn't 5-star then the restaurant can't be 5-star in my book. But I can tell the owners have put a lot of money into making this place look and feel fantastic, with good staff and high-quality ingredients. But sadly I'd say the execution of the dishes was not on-par tonight.
