Do I have to come home?

When I walked into my enormous hotel room (room 24) and saw the floor to ceiling sliding glass doors with the curtains blowing in the breeze and the panoramic view of the Mediterranean Sea, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. Seeing the outdoor bed and the outdoor shower on the balcony made me absolutely speechless. Silence between he and I as we took in all of the amenities. We looked at each other with raised eyebrows. Yes, we were going to enjoy this space. It's certainly very Italian. Our floor was completely tiled in blue and yellow ceramic and the balcony made of terracotta. It felt very old world. It did feel "busy" with all of the patterns compared to what most American's probably are used to. While I wouldn't live with it in my home in America, I absolutely loved it and embraced it in Italy. It felt palatial and I loved waking up to that every day that I stayed. LOVED the bathroom. With a huge sliding glass door that also opened to the balcony, I could soak in the 6x4 ft tub as I overlooked the Napoli coastline. A tub that was made completely of glass on one side. Yes, this was a hotel room made for lovers. Despite having been to the Amalfi Coast three times now, I'm still dying to go back. And of course, I would book my stay again at La Tonnarella in room 24. I wasn't there even 20 minutes before I was sprawled out on the balcony in a bathing suit with a mischievous grin on my face.

Zero Stars for this hotel. Zero stars for the staff. First and most important of all you should know that the hotel staff is extremely rude!! But I'll get to that in a moment. The hotel itself is a little dated. We had to take 2 flights of stairs to get to our room which wouldn't have been that big of a deal except we had to carry our own bags up. (Never have I ever had to carry my own bags to my room) We had an escort who quickly picked up one of my carry on bags and left the 2 large bags for me to carry. (My wife carried her carry on bag as well) The bellhop walked us to the room, handed me the key and left. The room itself looked decent at a glance, but upon further inspection had mosquitoes (I counted 6 that I had to squash) which probably came in through the bathroom window that had been left open. I'll get to the bathroom in a little bit) The WiFi did not work in our room & it took a technician about 45 minutes to 'fix it'. Truth is it was never fixed. It worked for about an hour, then we were logged out & it never worked again. There was a small balcony which revealed a magnificent panoramic view of the sea. You could see from the Sorrento marina all the way to Capri. I'm talking Breathtaking view!! This is the 1 and only good thing about this place. I hopped onto the bed to relax before heading out & almost broke my back. The thin mattress is supported by a steel beam running down the middle with flat chain link springs on either side (see picture) To give you a better idea of what it's like to sleep on this thing, imagine trying to sleep on a hill. You can't help but roll off to either side of the bed. I went down to the reception desk to let them know that the bed was unacceptable & the response I received from Christine (the receptionist) was this... "if you don't like it, you can call your travel agent and have them book you a room somewhere else" NO JOKE! NO EXAGGERATION!! Verbatim this is what she said!!!! Talk about customer service! WOW!!! This is exactly what I did. I called my agent and arranged a different room at a different hotel. Unfortunately we were unable to be transferred right away & were forced to spend 1 miserable night here. Luckily our agent was able to secure a room at a nearby hotel (Hotel Belair) which was a much nicer experience (check my review to read about the difference) I understand that this hotel is trying to stay "authentic" not my word.. this is the word the travel agent had used to describe the hotel, but give me a break!! There is no shower! Only a tub with a hand heals shower head. Get ready... here comes the best part... The ceiling is so low over the shower, that you have no other choice but to shower while sitting on your knees!! (Or bent over, or sitting in the tub) At some point during the night I wanted to make some tea (since I was unable to sleep in the bed!) and I was disgusted at what I saw in the kettle that was provided in the room. (Please see the image I provided of the tea kettle) there was mold inside of it. Anyway, That was 24 hours of my life that I can never get back. It almost ruined my entire vacation. If you are thinking of booking this hotel I urge you to do some more research. I highly recommend finding different accommodations.

Hotel is just OK at best. Travelers beware as our room has ants all over the place. Told the desk…read moreclerk and he just looked at me and never acknowledged the issue or made any notes. Red flag! Rooms are basic and they have AC. Bed was comfortable. Room included breakfast buffets which was OK, but hot dogs for breakfast? Maybe an Italy thing. So the big issue for me is that you have to take a taxi or their free bus that leaves regularly throughout the day. Taxi each way to the hotel is $30-35. Expensive for ONE mile! Ridiculous!! The best part of the hotel is the view which is awesome. Hope the hotel sees this review so they can make some changes.

This is a 2 start hotel with 4 star views - from the bar…read more We stayed here our last two nights on a tour and I have to say it was one of the worst places we stayed. We were put in a room that faced other rooms and a weird little hill - no sea view. It was up on the 3rd floor and it was a maze up there to find your room. Plus it was a little mildewy (smell) and worn in the hallways. The room was basic. Two twins pushed together with the oldest linens and bedspread I have seen! Tiled floors (very clean) and very white tiled bath (clean also). Plus an amoire, desk and a 13" TV that didn't work. No wifi while we stayed, it was down. The food was mediocre, the service was kinda indifferent and rude and the place was really far from town (you absolutely had to take the shuttle, it wasn't doable on foot). Complete downer in my opinion. I wouldn't recommend. Maybe there is some fantastic other part of the hotel hiding away that is 4 stars, but where I was, 2 stars is generous.
