Positano was a BEAUTIFUL, relaxing place to spend a few nights. Truly worth the premium price to visit. Make sure you don't have knee pain though - I thought the reviews about steps were over stating the facts - but there were really a lot of steps. We had to take breaks when walking around town due to the incline. This hotel was awesome. Restaurants were very close to the hotel (hard to tell based on maps), but truly just steps away. Super clean room and common spaces. Their porters can carry a suitcase up those steps so quickly. Food prices onsite are a bit steep. Nice included (free) breakfast spread with a lovely view. They also served us 2 glasses of complimentary champagne after check in, which was a nice touch and made for a great photo.

Literally laid up here all day long on our last day. So relaxing and quick room service!

AH-mazing hotel! From the room to the view and the service, everything was excellent!! Stairs schmairs - you're vacationing on the side of a mountain, what do you expect?? And the stairs weren't even that bad. Quick walk down and a steady 10 minute climb back up to the most amazing views you could imagine. And they have a porter to bring your bags up and down for you. The front desk was super helpful and knowledgeable about everything around the city. The breakfast is your typical Italian breakfast which is more of pastries and espressos but you can order eggs and other more American items. You can also go down to the private beach which the hotel can direct you to and get breakfast on the beach at Pupetto's. This hotel is really amazing and so affordable! Highly highly recommend it!

We had a wonderful experience at this hotel. The rooms were nice, the view was spectacular and the service was excellent. Everyone we encountered who worked there went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our stay, and they even arranged the ride to our next hotel in Naples. I didn't get everyone's name, but I especially want to thank Arianna, Luciano, Giovanni and Michele for helping make our time in Positano so unforgettable.

So I am giving this hotel 2 stars for, in my opinion, very good reasons. Lets start with the Pros: GREAT VIEW of the coastline- Very quiet and peaceful- So hi up on the hillside there are no neighbors above you- Most of the Staff seems friendly and welcoming There is a Bus stop close by Rooms were clean and bed was comfortable Now for the Cons: It is one of the highest hotels in all Positano- It says its a 19 minute walk to the Beach, which may be true going down, but we timed it going up and it was 35 minutes of just stairs- There is a Bus stop close by, but Positano public transportation is very confusing. No bus stops are clearly marked, and the streets in downtown are 1 way streets, with the hotel on the fare opposite side of the 1 way. So you either walk 35 minutes up the hill, or 25 minutes going around the town on the bus to get to your destination. Also, the Hotel didn't inform us about the public transportation, or how close it was to the hotel. We found out from the tourist center in the middle of town. The breakfast really is a continental breakfast, however they try to display it as a Buffet Breakfast, they even call it a Breakfast Buffet. For the money you spend to stay there, you think the breakfast would be better. Not being in the heart of town was tough. If your a more mellow, or even older couple, who doesnt plan on getting out much and just wants an incredible view, and doesnt mind facing some stairs to get there, then this is the place for you. However for a anyone looking to explore town, do some shopping or beach days, followed with dinner out at a restaurant, not the place for you.. It really was a lot of work getting back and forth, almost makes it to much work. : / Also the wi-fi was very sporadic and didnt really work in our room, it did work on our patio though The final con, was our welcome we received when we got there. I mentioned earlier that most of their staff was friendly. However, the day we arrived, and had walked the massive steps from the center of town with all our luggage, we were treated with some straight up disrespect. We had been traveling for 3 weeks, Positano was our final stop. Typically, when traveling internationally and checking into hotels they ask for your Passport/ID. Since your USA driverse License doesnt count as international ID, you check in with your passport, they write down all your info, and then give it right back. When we arrive at Hotel Conca D'Oror, the receptionist started off great, however in the middle of checking us in, stopped, told us we needed to leave our passports and luggage with her, and go with her assistant who will show us around the hotel. Leaving luggage, totally get that, its a norm, bell boy brings it up to your room and your all set. LEAVING YOUR PASSPORT, that is entirely different in my book. ( if I am out of line and leaving your passport with random strangers, even if they are hotel receptionists, is normal please correct me) Long story short, we told her we didnt feel comfortable leaving our passports anywhere, and that we werent in a hurry and we could wait and let her finish before we got the tour. Her exact words, " you need to relax, this is Positano" im sorry, but that is not how you treat guest who are just wanting their passports back. We will not be staying there again. I really dont like talking bad about businesses, I fully understand it is someones lively hood, people have worked hard at what they do and what they have accomplished. I just hope the hotel can fix these mistakes and make their guest stay as comfortable as possible. I think having some bus tickets at the hotel for their guests would also be a great idea.

We had an incredible stay here on our honeymoon. We came in on the ferry and dropped our luggage with a valet. We checked in and went out for some lunch. When we got back, luggage was in our room with a bottle of bubbly. The views are absolutely insane from the terraces. All the rooms face the water. The food was pretty good (admittedly not amazing, but I can forgive it because of the room and views). The service was great. We kept ordering bottles of wine to the room and they came quickly. Everyone who worked here was very courteous. Lots of steps to get down to the beach - so not for people with heart conditions. But otherwise we had an awesome stay and didn't want it to end.

They also had an extensive cocktail list which was nice as most of the Amalfi Coast doesn't have an extensive cocktail list. The view here is gorgeous. This is a nice feature for any hotel, but in Positano it is an absolute life saver! The nearest street is a few flights up from the hotel entrance, so carrying heavy luggage down can be quite precarious. However, they have trained professionals ready and eager to help! I was amazed when they scooped up more luggage than I could carry alone over flat ground and easily traversed the steps to lead us to the hotel. Your first glimpse of Villa Magia is breathtaking. As you walk onto their courtyard, there are two beautiful trees and a flowerbed that overlook the cliff and the beachside of the city. Walking deeper in, you are met with a gorgeous terrace lined with vines and plenty of seating that overlooks the coast. It feels like walking into a postcard! This leads to the outer dining area for Luna, the hotel restaurant. Definitely try to eat here if it fits your schedule! The food is amazing, and the head waiter, Salvatore (Sal), was a joy to interact with. He will make wonderful suggestions and make you feel right at home. The staff at the front desk, just inside past the terrace, are also fantastic. They ameliorated every aspect of our stay, including providing us with an iPhone and messaging system via WhatsApp for 24-hour assistance. We worked primarily with Jada, who was amazing and so welcoming. When she found out we were planning a day trip to Capri, she not only reserved our tickets for us (which we found out later sold out, so we were lucky she had!), but also gave us her personal recommendations as she used to be a skipper for one of the boats. Our room was beautiful, spacious, and had absolutely amazing views. There were high ceilings and even built-in sauna! Our favorite parts were the sun room and the balcony garden. Every morning they would deliver breakfast to our room (which we had pre-selected the night before and sent via WhatsApp), and they would set it up wherever we liked. Our entire stay the staff made us feel like both family and royalty all at once. I absolutely cannot recommend Villa Magia enough. Hurry to make your reservation, because there are only 12 rooms on property! A one-of-a-kind experience that is sure to enhance your visit in beautiful Positano.

It is located in the middle so you walk down a few flights of stairs from the main road or down several flights to the beach depending on where you are going. Whether you are going up to the main road for dinner or down to the dock for a boat tour, you minimize climbing stairs with this prime location. Don't get me wrong there are stairs on all paths but we found our hotel to be in the best possible spot as opposed to being located at the top of the mountain creating a long climb home each day or at the bottom where you would have a long climb up each day. Beyond the ideal location, here are the other reasons my family will look no further for hotel accommodations when traveling to Positano. Staff: The staff were so easy to communicate with from the very beginning. After booking our apartment for the week, my husband's work conference dates changed in Sicily. I emailed the staff at Albergo Miramare and within hours they adjusted our dates with no issues. Danielle and Nicola were incredible with arranging transfers to and from the airport for my family. They assisted us in chartering a private boat to Capri which was our favorite day of the trip. Every staff member we encountered from reception, porter service , housekeeping and restaurant staff were all friendly and professional. Room: We booked the apartment for our family of four. Our apartment was located across the steps from the reception office and only a few steps up from the hotel restaurant. The apartment had two bedrooms, two full baths, two closets, a small lounge area in the master bedroom and a full living area between the two bedrooms and hallway connecting the two bedrooms. The apartment was spacious and having the full living area was a nice feature when taking breaks from the heat during the day. The air conditioning was of US standard as it really cooled the entire apartment unlike many other air conditioning units we have experienced in our travels abroad. The beds and pillows were soft and comfortable which made for a good nights sleep. Housekeeping changed sheets and replaced towels daily. The private balcony was the icing on the cake for us. It was spacious with two tables for enjoying dinner and four lounge chairs for resting and enjoying the views. The view was so picturesque from our private balcony. Restaurant: The breakfast included in our room rate was served daily from 7:30-10:30 in La Scalinatella. The restaurant was just beautiful with a paper tree draping from the ceiling and walls. The views from the restaurant are the best you will find in Positano. Each morning there was a diverse buffet served with fresh fruit, cooked vegetables, cheese selections, sliced meat selections, eggs (boiled, scrambled and fried), bacon, sausage and hash browns. Each day they offered different sweet options such as a lemon cake, ricotta torte, pancakes and chocolate cake. Once seated you were also served a selection of crossaints. Between the beautiful setting and the nice selection of breakfast options it was a delightful way to begin your day. Be sure to request the hotel's porter service upon your arrival and your departure as they will meet you at the road to carry down your luggage. Should you have an early morning departure they will carry up your luggage the night before and lock it in their storage unit to prevent you from carrying it up yourself upon your departure. Be sure to arrange this valuable service. If you are looking to book your stay in Positano then look no further as Albergo Miramare is such a gem.

This was the workshop's 15th year. John Steinbeck once stayed here and wrote, "Positano bites deep. It is a dream place that isn't quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone." It really is a breathtaking, magical city that I was fortunate to visit. What makes it even more amazing is that it is owned by the Sersale family from Naples who have opened up their summer vacation home and turned it into a lovely hotel in 1951. They had purchased the adjacent building next door to expand. This hotel was also once a US Army rest resort. It is still a family operated hotel with some staff. Antonio, the co-owner and general manager was at the writer's workshop dinner, and his wife Carla does the gardening throughout and designs for the Emporio Sirenuse boutique store across the street. Famous celebrities like Reese Witherspoon and Kylie Jenner have also stayed here. The rooms are a good size. We had a marble bathroom with huge bathtub and a small patio seating that had wooden lattice windows that opened to the pool/terrace overlooking the beach. I'm shocked about a Dyson hair dryer in its own box. The turn down service was so great. They laid out my sleep clothes, a small towel on the floor near the bed, slippers, a Baci chocolate (my fave), bottled water, turned down the lights and put music on the TV, and gave a card with the weather report for the next day. It was helpful! Positano was chilly and sometimes rainy mid March. Antonio, not the co-owner though same first name, was at the front and greeted us when we transferred from our AirBNB. He was the sweetest and helpful when I inquired about a tour to Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius. Even when I left before the writer's workshop ended, he said I should stay. I really wished I could! I had already taken 3 days post spring break from work since I had been to Germany and was headed to London before going home. The spa was open to the writers and their +1s. After hiking Mt. Vesuvius, I got to sit and relax my muscles in the sauna, ice room, and did 2 dips in the cold plunge pool. The snacks and tea were great. I loved that there was a shower with Aveda products. The gym was also on the same floor. La Sponda restaurant at the hotel terrace area is a Michelin star. They're usually open for dinner, but they were closed because it was still considered winter and not open until the end of March or beginning April during peak season. We were fortunate to enjoy a cocktail hour prior to dinner at La Sponda specifically for the writer's workshop. They also served a buffet breakfast plus a la carte entrees for 2 days. I missed one day since I had my tour of Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius in Naples and left early am before breakfast. I did take advantage the second day! Btw, you can also order in room service. I loved everything at Le Sirenuse from all the plants and flowers to the detailed decor, epic views, delicious food and friendly staff. This was a once in a lifetime experience I will never forget.
