They don't take reservations and it's popular so we hoped we wouldn't have to wait long. During our 24 minute wait they have a coffee urn at the entrance to the restaurant so we can help ourselves while we wait. What a fabulous idea!! We sat outside in the outdoor Adirondack chairs while we drank our coffee until seating opened up for us. This place was hopping, and it seemed like that was the way it was throughout our time there. As soon as we were seated the lovely server, Catherine, gave us menus and asked if we wanted more coffee. It was really difficult to chose what to order because everything looked delicious and made on the premises. Because I grew up in Montréal I had to have a traditional Québec meal of the "Cabane à Sucre" Omelette which consisted of an "omelette" (which had to be the lightest and most perfect little pillow, which we were told could be eaten with maple syrup poured into the center when you lift off the top); maple-smoked ham, "oreilles de crisse" (like bacon but very thickly sliced and crisped to perfection, complimented when dipped in their homemade tomato relish); homemade baked beans with chunks of smoked ham and sweetened with maple syrup; home fried potatoes, pure maple syrup and toast (I opted for their HUGE Cottage Bread slices). My nephew's wife had the Table d'ôte consisting of a generous slice of Québec Tortiére, smoked ham, homemade baked beans, home fried potatoes and mashed turnips (with carrots). Applicable to both of us was how we reacted to our meals. Upon each bite of our respective morsels, we slowly savoured the flavours and textures and sweetness as if it were the first time we'd ever tasted Québequois cuisine. It was heaven for our tongues. We made sure to give Catherine a nice tip for her amazing service and lighthearted attitude. On our way out (I had a doggie bag) we stopped at the counter to purchase their homemade Pea Soup to have for dinner. Tasty and light and prepared with very little salt. If you are ever in the Val David area, or anywhere in the Laurentiens (or Montréal, for that matter) treat yourself. It's well worth the drive. Voilà!!

Free coffee and hot chocolate. Nice seating areas inside and out, a little store to buy their home made products. Lots to take pictures of. Ambiance: 10/10 The service was so friendly. Even with a packed restaurant the whole day, the servers were quick but so nice. We had The Ogre and The Trappeur. With the exception of the bacon, which was a little like jerky, everything was amazing. Fresh, real food. The country bread was to die for! I would revisit if I knew I was going to be in the area again.

Sat outside, ordered a glass of wine & relaxed. I had the arancini, mushroom risotto covered in a crunchy shell with homemade mayonnaise. Wines by the glass are good and not just the usual chardonnay/pinot grig/merlot. For dinner, I loved the beef cheeks, fork-tender with a lovely sauce, and accompanied by the server's recommended red wine. And for dessert, white chocolate ice cream with a dark chocolate shell - yum!

We have certainly enjoyed food at other places on our trip but this was by far the best! Julien was an outstanding host who spent time translating the entire menu for us and then provided us several suggestions of fun activities for our teenage kids - including the address and phone numbers! Now, that's a host who takes care of his customers! Kim, our waitress, was extremely polite and offered much help with our ordering and wine pairing. And the food and desserts - wow. Everything - from our starters to our desserts - was delicious. Our family plays a game when we go out, after tasting everyone else's dish as to who ordered the best dish and, for this restaurant, we couldn't decide. Everything was literally that good! Thank you Julien and Kim for starting our time in Canada so perfectly.

We drove through the village and found a few places that looked OK but none of them seemed interesting. The last place we stopped at was this place and there was a backed apple in maple syrup on the menu that almost forced us to go in. We took the later ;-) First, the choice of appetizers was good and ours did not disappoint...A spinach salad with a delicious vinaigrette and the mushroom feuillette with a variety of mushroom not overcooked. I took a chance and ordered the "ris de veau"... Excellent inspiration! It was crispy on the outside and tender inside, exactly as it should be. My friend had the Magret, which was cooked perfectly. We paired it with a Cote du Rhone. Again, a nice carte of deserts with the classic Creme Brule, which I took, of course! It was orange flavoured, a clever way to cut the heaviness. The restaurant is cozy and well kept. Only negative point is that there is no hot water in the washroom.
