Was looking for a family friendly place in Randwick that caters for food allergies (including soy and gluten) and decided on La Sen. Nice small restaurant and was quiet for a Thursday night. We were a table of 9 and only saw two other tables of four during our dinner. Menu was extensive and we had a variety of dishes including the mandatory rice paper rolls, salt and pepper squid, green papaya salad and of course Pho. All fishes were above average and satisfying. Had to ask a couple of times to explain gluten free and ordered some dishes accordingly. Had to question a sauce which accompanied the rice paper rolls and had it replaced with a GF fish sauce (lucky, hate cleaning vomit... Especially in the car) so far do good! Other dishes came out and each time I asked if it was gluten free, the waitress checked and came back with a 'yes'. A pleasant surprise, but would have been so much easier if they just had menu marked or ran through which was suitable instead of me asking each time. Anyway my wife and son enjoyed gluten free rice paper rolls, green papaya salad, s&p squid, crispy chicken, pho and a chicken and veg dish.
All good, all satisfied. They could improve by... Faster service of food (took ages and the restaurant was 80% empty) and clearly marked menu. Or an enthusiastic communicative waiter/waitress. But hey, most restaurants could use this. I will be back when I'm in the area again (if I have coeliacs with me) otherwise there are plenty of variety surrounding La Sen. read more
