I was always put off by the non-descript exteria off a public car park, and the smell of deep fat frying when you drive past. But I had cause to take some business customers for an early dinner, and picked Lascala on the recomendation of a friend.
The interia is bright and still non-descript, but we found a warm welcome and attentive service. The tables were well set and it was good to be served by staff who know how to serve, ( as opposed to alot of restaurants I eat in where it seems the waiting staff are inexperienced students paid to take orders and deliver food, rather than provide a pleasant eating experience.)
The menu contained a wide variety of classic Italian, from pizza to pasta to meat. Main course prices were slightly above 'pub food' prices, but reasonable for the standard of food. We all went for the Pasta, which came piping hot and fresh, with good (not huge) portions and fresh sauce. I was not dissapointed, and my customers commented on how good the food was.
Having had one good experience, I returned a week or so later for an impromtu meal with my wife. We were later in the evening, but we had called ahead to book a table for two. While not full, the restaurant was busy - mainly with families and groups celebrating one thing or another. Again the food and service was good, and we had a very pleasant meal.
This is probably not the place for a cosy romantic meal (too bright and open), but if you want a straight forward Italian restaurant with good food and great service, this will serve you very well. read more
