I scoured the internet for hours for an on-location service that could deliver my (probably unrealistically) high expectations for hair and makeup, and La Rouge Artistry was the only one I found that I felt comfortable putting blind trust into. And am I glad I made that decision! When I went in for my trial, I gave Rachel a tall order - I said, "I'd like my overall look to be somewhere between RuPaul's Drag Race and bridal" and she truly delivered! One of my biggest fears for my wedding day was looking bald, so I came in, prepared, with 3 sets of clip-in extensions and a topper. I didn't know how she was going to fit all of them on my head and make it look natural, but she did. Another one of my fears was being able to see my acne scars (or worse, potential live cystic acne) on the day of my wedding. I am very torn as I write this review. Rachel was amazing leading up to the wedding - we had a large group and they staffed up appropriately which made the day of very efficient and we didn't have to wake up super early (which was key). My makeup was perfect, my bridesmaids and family were all happy. The only thing that makes me withhold a star is that as soon as Rachel left, my updo started to fall. My friends had to jump in and fix it, but ultimately I had a chunk falling out through out all of my photos and ceremony. I guess no one noticed at the time but it is very visible to me in my photos. Rachel and her team were great but ultimately, paying so much for hair and makeup, I'd expect my hair to stay intact at least through the ceremony. I've been in several weddings and never had my updo fall down, even after dancing all night. I still want to give a good review because of how happy all of family was, my makeup was perfect, and I thought Rachel and her team were generally great. Rachel and Crystal did the hair and makeup for me, my two attendants, and mom/MIL for my wedding in Sept. 2018. I was incredibly nervous about getting my hair/makeup done because it's not really something I have experience with, and it felt hard to trust a stranger with the most visible part of you. My trial helped me narrow down what I *didn't* want, but literally until the minute I was in the chair, I didn't know how I wanted my updo to look. Rachel was really great and listening to my ideas, checking out the photos she took from my trial to make sure she understood what I didn't want, and put together a really classic and elegant look I was really thrilled with. I was also thrilled with the work Crystal did with several of my ladies with super short hair; they were all a little nervous about how it would look, but they all felt like goddesses, which is exactly what I wanted for them. My mom has very short, baby-fine hair, and Crystal really gave it volume and life it's never had before. Both moms aren't big on makeup but still talk months later about how beautiful their eyes were, and my mom *loved* her false lashes. Ha! Rachel was also really great about checking in on me - I was really anxious and had trouble eating - and she kept reminding me to nibble, asking what she could do or if she could intervene as needed with moms, etc., and I really appreciated her thoughtfulness and attention. I felt really taken care of. The only reason I'm taking a star off of what would otherwise be a knock-out review was that the bright red lip stain they used on me immediately smeared all over my husband with our first kiss, and continued to do so throughout the night. I was told it would stick, and to throw any basic gloss over it to keep my lips moisturized, but every single kiss was smear city, to the point where I started not wanting to kiss him for photos because it was such a production to remove it, and I was so worried about getting it all over my dress when we tried to clean him up. I can laugh now, but it definitely wasn't something I wanted to worry about. Other than that, I really couldn't have been happier with my look and how my whole bridal group looked. And with all the lipstick drama, my hair and the rest of my makeup survived the whole night with a LOT of dancing and sweating. read more

Rachel did my blowout for my son's recent September 2020 wedding (Jesse and Erin). With the ceremony taking place on the beach, I knew I'd be battling for silky smooth vs beach hair fullness!!! She did things that were perfect to ensure I had a beautiful style, all the while during a bout of humidity that Ma Nature contributed. I opted to wear my hair down because that better reflects who I am naturally. Rachel was wonderful to work with for my wedding weekend in July. I had found her name on Yelp and was planning my wedding in Santa Barbara from Boston, so it was a relief to have someone who was prompt with email and easy to communicate with from far away. Rachel came to my parents' place on Friday night and did a test run for me for the wedding the next day, then finished my hair off in a lovely little down-do for the rehearsal dinner - an extra bonus for me and a hair do that I absolutely loved. On Saturday morning, we had a LOT of ladies to work on between hair and make-up. With two moms, seven bridesmaids, and me, Rachel and her team of three other stylists worked really quickly and very professionally. They really helped set the tone for the day. I did an up-do with a braid on each side, coming into a bun with a flower in back. Other girls had variations on that and down-dos as well. However, I asked her to apply my makeup on the heavier side so it would show up in photographs, and I was kind of disappointed with the result (my blush didn't show up at all, for example).
