La Rosita Sol tasted great! I had 2 asada tacos, and an al pastor taco. I also had some of my friend's asada torta. The tacos tasted delicious and held together very well. The torta tasted alright, but the bread got soggy and it crumbled easily. The place was very spacious, but the tables are all booths so don't go in large groups. One thing I didn't like was that La Rosita Sol does not have any of their prices listed on the menu. So it was a guessing game where I got my total at the end of my order. They will give you the price if you ask, but it would be nice to have them on the menu to see. They also don't have free water so I had to buy a bottle. This place was good but it just didn't wow me. The tacos were fine. The pastor was ok but I would prefer it had spent more time, or any time on a flat top. I prefer that little bit of crunchy char in the pork. Same goes for the chorizo. The tripa taco was the best thing I had. It was just really tasty. I didn't care so much for the salsas. The green was very tart and the red was a little one note. Neither really had any heat going for it. The place was doing a brisk business at lunch and the customers all seemed to enjoy what they were eating. It was a diverse clientele and that is always a good thing. These are just my opinions so take them or leave them. They serve a lot of drinks in single use plastic. I'm not a fan of that. read more

I finally found a great Mexican spot in Louisville after searching for more than a year and after having tried - during my search - some of worst, most bland and overrated Mexican food I have ever tried in my life here in Louisville, KY. I used to come here a lot with my mom and sisters for a few groceries. It was years ago. One day, we tried the tacos. At the time, this place wasn't on anyone's radar. Some of the best tacos in the city! There also weren't a lot of tables to sit at back then either. I'm sure they've expanded since then. La Rosita has some great tacos! I especially like the chicken taco and the pork taco. They both are delicious! The tacos are only $2.50 - $3.00 each and are filled with meat, lettuce, tomato, sour cream and onion all on a corn tortilla. The pork and the chicken both have some great seasoning on them. I tried the steak taco as well but didn't like it as much. The steak lacked flavor and was quite fatty. I will stick with the pork and chicken next time. Tacos are good, but they are open so inconsistently that you can't count on them ever being open for dinner. I just left the storefront at 5:50pm, their hours clearly indicate that they are open until 8pm, but they never are. This is not the first time this has happened. First of all the tacos are still delicious. My problem is how much the price has gone up. I ordered three tacos, one lomo, one pastor, and one chorizo. These tacos are very simple, a tortilla with meat, onions, and cilantro. My bill was $12.93! That's over $4.00 per taco! The La Rosita on Preston is usually my go to but I was much closer to Westport and the prices here have gone up significantly. If the price hike isn't bad enough the prices are not clearly displayed anywhere on the menu. Also this La Rosita is not a grocery store, they had some jankity looking case with like some used gloves and hoodies or something in it but other than food that is all I saw. Just stopped in for lunch and you could tell that these tacos were going to be truly authentic by the majority of there clientele. Service was fast and easy. I ordered the al pastor, asada, and pollo tacos. Al pastor was the one that stood out to be the most. The asada didn't have as much flavor and the meat was fattier. The pollo was good but I just wish it also had more flavor. Once the tacos are delivered to your table they give you two fresh sauces, a green and red one. Great place to get authentic Mexican street food! I came in for dinner and ordered 3 tacos. I tried carnitas, steak and al pastor. The steak was delicious as was the al pastor. Tacos come topped with cilantro and onion (I see some reviewers said they come with lettuce and tomato, they dont, you must have to ask for that). I was disappointed that there was no salsa/toppings bar like many taquerias have. But the two sauces they bring to the table sort of made up for it. They were delicious. Somewhat spicy but nothing too crazy. You cant beat the price (around $2.50 per taco and other items under $10) The place is in a little shopping strip with plenty of parking. Ran errands with the bestie and finished the day off at La Rosita's for the first time. It was worth the hype! $2/tacos! My friend and I were thinking about going to the Panchitos on Bardstown but she said La Rosita's is better in her opinion bc theirs is more crispy and caramelized versus soggy. I still haven't gotten to try Panchitos on Bardstown yet, so I'll get to compare for myself one of these days. I like trying different places anyways so will be back to La Rosita's. Enjoyed a taco made with steak and chorizo mix got one of those introduced by my friend that I accompanied with, the Barbacoa, and two Al Pastors. They were all good. Although, I wish I would have asked for a little sour cream since I love sour cream with a little bit of salsa to top my tacos off with. Also purchased two coconut drinks because I love coconut, best coconut drink I've ever had. Can't find it any Oriental supermarkets which I've grown up going to. It's a perfect place when you're craving real tacos yet cheap! I had two tacos (rib eye and chimichanga) and Mexican grapefruit soda! Everything was great. My hubby had rib eye, pork and chimichanga tacos with Mexican orange soda. He wan ant sure about this place until he stated eating those tacos, he ended up ordering one more chimichanga taco! I can't believe I haven't reviewed this spot until now! The food is very good. It's authentic too. Most of the offal cuts are offered, plus the OG stuff like Carne Asada etc. Pricing is very fair and the portions are just right. I had a Tripa burrito on this visit and it was 7.59 if I recall correctly. It was perfect and had lots of meat with not a lot of fillers. They don't have guacamole or chips which is kind of a let down. Womp womp. You pay after the meal, even though it looks and is set up like a ( pay first style ) restaurant. A little confusing sometimes. It's kind of on the honor system to pay at the end I guess. Just order and they give you a table. Grab your own drinks out of the cooler and your food comes to you shortly. The market is " meh " ... they could use a little more product, but no biggie. I'm a sucker for tacos and La Rosita has always hit the spot. I have been craving them since I moved from Louisville a few years ago. Y'all are lucky! Since moving back to Phoenix I have yet to find many places that can recreate the quality of these tacos. I ordered two Al Pastor and one Carne Asada. I ordered them "deluxe" (I think that's what it was phrased as, I might be wrong), they came with lettuce, pico, avocados and sour cream on top instead of just the normal cilantro and onion. Regarding these extra toppings I would advise that if you are used to and like the more authentic simplicity of just cilantro and onion then stick with that. I wish I would've just stuck with that to really focus on the meat. The Al Pastor was delicious, so moist and tender and some of the most flavorful I have ever had. Especially with the Al Pastor I wish I hadn't gotten the extra toppings, the meat is that delicious by itself. The Carne Asada was also much better than what I have had at many taco places, including better than the Carne Asada at El Molcajete (in my eyes/experience the only true taco competition to La Rosita in Louisville). When I first moved to Louisville I found this tiny little counter space inside a little Mexican grocery store that served some amazing tacos. I lived on Brownsboro Road back then and so my visits to La Rosita were frequent. Since then I have moved addresses but playing in a soccer league near La Rosita brought me back to visit a few weeks ago. That small counter space they had back in 2008 or so has now expanded into a dining room that takes up a large portion of the Mexican store. Or perhaps it should now read that the store portion takes up some space in this authentic Mexican food restaurant. On my recent visits to La Rosita after my Sunday Soccer games, I have entered into a half full dining room with Mexican music ( all Spanish genres) playing in the background and with the television showing Futbol (Soccer) coverage. I like the fact that though the restaurant has expanded, the atmosphere has remained super casual. I feel perfectly fine going inside in my soccer uniform, and I have seen men in their landscaping uniforms, or some people in close to pajama attire. I have ordered burritos, tortas, and tacos here though La Rosita also offers Mexican style soups and sopes here. My favorite thing to order here are the tacos and believe me when I say that these tacos are the most delicious authentic tacos you can find in town. The "Chicharron" ( pork rind) is an amazing choice of taco to choose but you can stick with your more "normal" meats of steak and chicken too. Every taco I have ordered with various meats has been so exceptionally delicious and rich in flavor that it's hard to stop eating them. Pair your tacos with an Horchata (Cinnamon-Rice) drink to balance out your tongue after you've tried the green or red salsa on your tacos. The employees working there are very friendly and though they speak primarily Spanish, they did just fine getting through taking orders of all the English speakers. Whenever you don't feel like dressing up and going out for lunch or dinner or whenever you are short on time, go visit La Rosita for a quick delicious meal. The best Mexican food does not come with cloth napkins and tablecloths. La Rosita did not provide either of these. Instead, it transported me to a little family owned taqueria in Santa Ana within a few hours drive of the Mexico border. American quality food standards with authentic Mexican flavors and foods are what you find here! You will find it's a small market with dry goods from Mexico and fresh meat for sale but the star for me is the restaurant. Burritos, tacos, tortas (sandwiches), all freshly made to order! A wide variety of meats to choose from, although they did not have lengua (beef tongue) when I visited. It was on the menu, but I'll be back to try it here soon. The star of the show here today was their chorizo sausage taco! Oh my was it flavorful! It had a delightful smoky flavor and as a four bite taco, was a great value. The burrito was nicely wrapped and well proportioned in terms of the meat/rice/beans ratio. I smothered everything in swaths of alternating green and red sauces and ended up devouring three tacos and one burrito in honor of the nostalgia of being at my old home in Santa Ana. I washed it down with a huge cup of horchata although they do serve beers here as well. If you're up for trying Mexican beers go for a Negra Modelo or a Michelada! Finish off with a refreshing frozen fruit bar that puts boutique frozen fruit bar shops to shame and at a lower price! Overall, go in with an open mind and you may find a new favorite! Really solid, authentic tacos. Two corn tortillas, meat, onion, cilantro, and maybe lime if you so choose. That's it, and here that's all you need. I ordered 3 tacos (Al Pastor, Asada, and Barbacoa) and they were each delicious. Fair warning: the Barbacoa was pretty greasy and almost soaked through the two tortillas, but it was tasty nonetheless. There were about 10-15 people in the store at 3:00pm on a Monday, which is another sign that this place is good. The staff was efficient and the price is excellent - $2.50/taco. I was still a little hungry after the 3 tacos, but it could just be that I was craving more of them. I'm eager to return and try a burrito or torta the next time. I'll be back! read more
