It's really easy to shrug off a deli/sandwich shop by saying, "It's just sandwiches, nothing special about that" like some reviews I've seen. I think those reviews miss the entire point of the neighborhood deli. I've been two days in a row this week. Once for myself, then again for my family after they heard me rave about the sandwiches and people here. Farrah (sp?) greeted me both days with a, "Hi honey! Be right with you!". You don't get a greeting like that very much anymore, and that same care and effort she put into greeting her customers is evident in the construction of the sandwiches too! I mean when was the last time a business - even local - asked your name before you left, unless it was to put on your coffee cup? We've had the club, the Brooklyn, and the veggie caprese and all of them are phenomenal. I don't think you could make a bad choice at The Block - you're gonna be happy and satisfied. Maybe it is "just a sandwich", and maybe I'm overhyping it because of the way the love they have for the customers and product comes through the entire experience....but even if I am, isn't that the entire point of your neighborhood deli?

The sandwich was a really good size and definitely filling. The place was pretty crowded inside, and it was honestly a little hard to find. I actually walked into the restaurant connected to it first and tried to order before realizing I was in the wrong spot Once I figured it out, though, everything was good. My only real complaint with the Reuben was that I wish it had a little more sauce. I think that would have taken the sandwich up another notch for me. The total came to $18.02 after tax, which felt a little pricey for a sandwich, but the portion was big. Overall, I enjoyed it and would definitely eat here again. Four stars from me!

The food - A lot of variety of sandwiches to choose from. My Turkey sandwich was packed with meat that overwhelmed the regular slices of bread. Loved the variety of fruit options, frozen items, fresh meat, and other things to try out. Garden section - Didn't know this existed in here. A variety of plants and flowers to choose from. Customer service- It was top notch from the counter and front store cashiers. Everyone was nice and on point. They kept lines moving which I appreciated too. The Papa Joe is definitely not your typical Reuben. It's pastrami, corned beef, Swiss, dill pickle and sauerkraut, but instead of the Thousand Island or Russian dressing you normally get on a Reuben, Kayrouz uses Düsseldorf mustard. That gives it a completely different flavor and makes it stand out from the other Reubens I've tried. I really liked the atmosphere here, too. It's an older building with a cozy, old-school feel, and I enjoyed looking at all the pictures throughout the inside. It has some character to it that you just don't get in a newer restaurant. The staff was also very friendly and welcoming, which made the visit even better. There's also some pretty cool Louisville history behind the Kayrouz name. The family has been in the restaurant business here for generations, going all the way back to the 1920s. The current deli carries on recipes and traditions connected to J.P. Kayrouz, so you're getting more than just another sandwich shop when you walk through the door. Overall, I enjoyed my visit. The Papa Joe was good, the staff was great, and I really liked the atmosphere. It wasn't my favorite Reuben-style sandwich I've had, but I'd definitely come back and try some of the other things on the menu. There are several sandwiches that caught my eye, so I'll probably be back to see what else Kayrouz has to offer.

Just on the edge of the Highlands, Morris Deli is not only your stop for your packaged drinks, but a nice sandwich or homemade soup as well. Look at the pictures, this place doesn't miss! It's constantly full of usuals and the staff definitely knows their people. It's hard to find certain things in Louisville. They fill the gaps. Service is pretty on point. There's just a lot of random things here down to the chips and take home items that are worth the visit alone. Need an entire country ham with stamps from the farm? Check. Bread is pretty good too. I decided to give Good Belly Sandwich Shop a try after seeing a TikTok review that made the…read moresandwiches look absolutely massive and incredible. Based on that video, my expectations were pretty high. My wife and I made the trip out there, and I ordered the Reuben while she ordered the Turkey Reuben. The restaurant itself was clean and nice enough, although nothing particularly memorable. Their homemade chips were definitely the highlight of the meal--they were fresh, crispy, and probably the best part of our visit. Unfortunately, everything else fell short of what we were expecting. The Reuben lacked the bold, savory flavor that makes a great Reuben memorable. I was hoping for something that reminded me of the oversized, flavor-packed deli sandwiches you'd find in New York City, but this just wasn't it. In fact, I honestly think the Reuben at Jason's Deli has more flavor and is a better sandwich overall. Service also left something to be desired. While ordering drinks, we asked what they had available since they weren't listed on the main menu. Instead of simply pointing us in the right direction, the employee gestured toward a small drink menu sitting on the counter and made us feel like we should have already known it was there. As first-time customers, that wasn't a great first impression. Another thing that made the experience uncomfortable was an employee who continually walked around the dining room, clearing tables while closely watching people who were still eating. I understand keeping the restaurant clean, but it felt like we were being rushed, and several times it seemed like he was hovering over diners rather than just checking on the dining area. To top it off, I ended up with heartburn shortly after leaving, which didn't help my overall impression of the meal. I really wanted to love this place because the online videos made it look like a hidden gem with giant, authentic deli sandwiches. Unfortunately, my experience didn't live up to the hype. While the homemade chips were excellent, the sandwich, service, and overall atmosphere just didn't justify making another trip. Sadly, this is one place I don't plan on visiting again.

We couldn't decide what to order, so we ended up trying a little bit of everything. The tabbouleh, hummus, falafel, and spinach pie were all fantastic. Every single side was fresh and packed with flavor. The sauces deserve their own shoutout. I would happily take home a gallon of the garlic sauce, and the tzatziki was just as addictive. My husband ordered the Mediterranean salad, and my daughter and I shared the kids' shawarma plate. The salad was massive with a beautiful variety of fresh vegetables. The beef shawarma was incredibly tender, and the basmati rice was perfectly cooked. One thing that really stood out to me was the hospitality. While we were there, a family came in just before closing and asked if they could still be served. Without hesitation, the staff welcomed them in and accommodated them with such kindness. It felt less like a restaurant and more like being welcomed into someone's home. You can tell there's real care behind every ingredient and every interaction. Everything tasted fresh, balanced, and homemade. It left us feeling satisfied without feeling heavy, which isn't always easy to find when eating out.
