I'm giving La Rose Sucrée 4/5 because I am definitely a fan, but I'm not familiar enough with Tunisian food to make an educated judgment. I came to La Rose Sucrée late at night because I was hungry and it was the closest thing that was open (was staying at Les Piaules hostel next door). I actually thought this was a sandwich/kebab shop at first, but boy was I mistaken.
I had zero idea what to order when I walked in. They have food that is prepared and displayed behind a counter and a menu with some images, but this was not too helpful for someone with zero experience with the cuisine. Luckily, there were a few Tunisian-French locals watching me struggle with the menu and graciously helped me order "Lablebi".
Lablebi is, as I soon found out, a traditional Tunisian dish made of chickpea soup. When you order it, you are given a bowl with a peice of bread. You need to break up the bread into small pieces and return the bowl back across the counter. Then, stew is poured in along with egg, tuna bits, and a variety of sauces. When mixed together, it's extremely comforting and the consistency is reminiscent of porridge. For 6 euros, this is amazing. So glad I was able to try La Rose Sucrée in Paris! read more
