One thing that frustrates me about Amsterdam is the complete lack of food delivery options available for lunch. Almost all restaurants open at 4pm, so if you are craving pizza at 11:30am, you're sh*t outta luck. Until now! Enter La Roma Pizzeria and Steakhouse! Dum duh duh duuuum!!!
Since I was craving pizza for lunch and was bound at home that day, I checked out the thuisbezorgd app and noticed this place was new and nearby and actually open at lunch time. The prices are reasonable, even though they are deceptively low on the app, since they list all pizzas as costing 4-5 euros, but that's until you actually try to order one and then the price goes up by 3-5 euros depending on if you get a medium or a large, so they still cost the average price of 7-10 euros that most other places charge.
After ordering I got a notification it would take an entire hour to deliver the pizza. I called and asked if that was true, and the guy said that he just likes to give himself some extra time and doesn't want to risk disappointing the customer so he puts in an extra long delivery time ETA. In reality it took about 40 minutes, but I was annoyed that I initially thought it would be much longer and I wasn't prepared to wait for a whole hour.
All that aside, the pizzas themselves were top notch. When I tried the crust alone I thought it was kind of a yucky corn meal based crust, but when I ate the whole thing together with the cheese and the sauce it was a magnificent symphony of flavors where no one ingredient was singing out of key. I didn't even leave the crusts aside, that's how well it all worked together. Bonus points awarded for their honoring my request for extra sauce and cheese. Some leftover slices were even good the next morning after coming out of the fridge, so they passed that pizza test with flying colors as well. read more
