I love my Huevos Rancheros with sausage patties instead of bacon. This is my 3rd Huevos Rancheros I've tried out near home. There's LOTS of these in San Antonio and all of them are mom n pop and so you're guaranteed home-cooked quality. My huevos were perfect. The sausage patties were so tasty. It's seldom joints like these get the perfect over medium fried eggs but I can't complain. I mixed my eggs in with my refried beans...heavenly. Wait staff was hospitable and caring. Restaurant was clean. It's not actually that small as I think it could entertain about a hundred customers. Visited on 2.19.22 I was having my oil changed and the person behind the counter said it would be 30-45 minutes before it was ready. They suggested this restaurant and other shops if we didn't want to wait in the lobby. It was Noon so we decided to get some lunch. It's a hole in the wall and in my experience they usually have the best food. While it wasn't the greatest I've ever had, it was pretty good. Our order was taken soon after we sat down and the order came out quickly but not too much. The tortillas are handmade and the chicken was seasoned but not over the top. Partner enjoyed their meal and let me take a pic this time. If in the neighborhood, I'd recommend stopping by. read more

A hidden gem! I have been living in the area for a few years and had never noticed this restaurant. Don't let the outside run down look discourage you. It is very easy to miss, AND there is now construction in the way. Food is well worth the challenge of finding the place. It is only available for breakfast and lunch. I have only been there for breakfast so far. The food is delicious and the prices are great! I've been sticking to the huevos rancheros plate with sausage patties. Salsa is great, and you get a good portion of beans with potatoes to go along with the egg. Potatoes are delicious! Don't know what they lightly fry them with, but it tastes great. My mother has even gotten hooked on the menudo! Once again, it's a good amount for the price. The small order fills up a pretty big plate. She tends to eat it as is instead of having to doctor it up. You can even ask for pigs feet to be added! Can't go wrong with a basic bean and cheese or bean and bacon taco. Also, I really appreciate that the picadillo taco tastes great AND they drain the meat! Thank you!!! I don't understand why many places do not drain the grease from the picadillo. Who likes a soggy and dripping picadillo taco?! I highly recommend that you give this whole in the wall kind of place a try. I did not give a full five stars because I have not been there for lunch. Masks are worn by all and required to get in. I was pleasantly surprised! My friend frequents La Puntada often, living near, I am on the clear other side of town, but we decided to meet up for lunch, catch up during all this pandemic and have a nice lunch. They were definitely more busy with curbside pick up, then dining in. There was 1 other table of guests, and we were not sitting near. The wait staff were wearing masks. The menus were copied menus on paper, which they could throw away. Dining room closes at 1pm, and curbside ends at 2pm. La Puntada offers breakfast and lunch. They lunch specials are at an excellent price point. The drinks were served in to go styrofoam cups. I ordered the picadillo, which came with 2 tortillas, rice and beans for under $7! It's like hometown Mexican cooking. It's was so tasty, great amount of flavor and spices added to the ground beef. The rice was good! Like rice I would find in the valley, my hometown area. Definitely enjoyed it and will have to make the trek back down to this side of town. The restaurant could definitely use some updating, but just sort of adds some charm. read more

This a great mexican restaurant with really really good prices and excellent service. The strip it's in looks a little run down and shady but the food is worth it - go and enjoy. I would caution that they are more comfortable with spanish although I do not speak Spanish and aside from a little explanation and hand gestures it's never stopped me from getting what I want - how I want it. They are never stingy on portion sizes and have excellent fajitas and hot sauce. Lots of families there in the morning with little kids so dont worry about bringing everyone. read more

Good food and great service. Tried La Puntada for the first time today. Chorizo and potato and batbacoa tacos are exceptional. Good homemade tortillas. Not as fluffy as I like them but still much better than most restaurants and very tasty. They can definitely stand up to some wet taco ingredients and stay together. Prices were great and the menu will have me coming back for more. Rice was a little bland for my tastes but I like my Rice a little more aggressively spiced than most. read more

This place is on point, I know cheesy, but seriously no complaints at all. Everything we had was good. The huevos rancheros plate with bacon was large and inexpensive. The service was good and so was the coffee. I had a sample of the rice and I thought it was delicious. The tortillas were also very good. The menu isn't huge like some other places but I think the smaller menu is better anyway. Definitely going back. read more

I am very picky about my Mexican food, because I was raised with real Mexican food. Lol... so I was very skeptical about tying this out, but I've heard some good things about this place. As soon as I went in, I was seated right away, and asked what to drink. I always judge a Mexican restaurant by how their lemonade taste. The waiter let me know right away it was not fresh squeezed lemonade, but I decided to try it anyway. It was indeed a powder lemonade but it had just the right amount that you could not really taste the difference. It was nice and smooth, and not that tangy taste you usually get with using the powder. I asked the waiter what he recommended, and he asked how hungry I was, I had just finished a workout, so I was pretty hungry! He recommended "Big O's plate" which comes with, Two cheese enchiladas with the red corn tortilla "my favorite", a portion of beef fajita, a puffy taco, and it was served with rice and beans, served with tortilla of choice... i recommend the homemade flour tortilla!! Everything was delicious, the rice was nice and fluffy, the beans had a great flavor. Being a big guy I could not finish everything on my plate!!! The only reason they don't get 5 stars is i ordered breakfast with pork chops, they were out of pork chops, they substituted for anything I wanted (got barbacoa), the bacon that came on another plate had a funny after taste to it, other than that everything else ordered came out delicious!
