They have a beautiful outdoor patio, but it was a bit warm for a Midwest girl on my visit. I had the El Plebe and Taco el Campo as well as a classic margarita. They also brought each of a small cup of beans when we sat down. That was comfort food in styrofoam. Service started out strong but as it got busier, our server was a little less attentive. No worries though--we enjoyed the crowd and chatting.

The foot-long quesadilla blended tender carne asada, two cheeses, onions, spices and other flavors into a buttery, crispy tortilla. Absolutely delicious! The frijoles were also fantastic- great blend of lime and broth. The service was impeccable. My waitress was knowledgeable of the menu, kind and attentive. I also loved the atmosphere, they had the World Cup playing and it added to the good vibes.

Despite my sister not requesting for them to be replaced, the waiter brought them over shortly after bringing out the initial meal and excused herself for the mistake. It's extremely unprofessional, and they should be more mindful. Instead of addressing the issue, I got the runaround and was told that no one working there during the day speaks English. Funny how that works--because when they were taking my order yesterday ( same person) , their English was perfect. And when I pointed that out? They hung up on me. So, I'll take my business elsewhere. That's about $600 a month they'll be missing out on. And for what? Talking trash in Spanish about me and my boyfriend because they assumed I was just another clueless white customer? Guess what. IM NOT WHITE. I'm just light skinned with light eyes and white passing. And when I do speak to management they will find out the hard way. Oh, and that tip I usually leave--even on takeout orders? Yeah, that didn't happen this time. Hope it was worth it.

(((Taqueria Tepeque ))) in McAllen, TX I randomly stopped by this spot after hearing a friend mention the super quesadilla, and wow. Totally lived up to the hype. The tortillas are handmade and remind me of the ones I used to get at Tacos El Poblano in Compton. That first bite took me back. Everything's fresh, you get lime ‍ green/red salsa, onion, and cilantro on the side. The flavors are bold, and they don't hold back with portions either. It's not a fancy place, but the food speaks for itself. If you're craving a bomb quesadilla, this is the place. Definitely coming back! ( no gatekeeping here). Remember to enjoy your meal with someone you love .
