I'll have to come in somewhere in between Myke H.'s "this is a basic Swiss post office" and Mindy H.'s "this is more than just a basic Swiss post office" debate. On Mindy's side, this place is much bigger and better equipped than the smaller regional post offices in Geneva. On Myke's side, there seem to be other post offices that may not be quite as big, but comparably well equipped. I have not always had someone who speaks English, but have generally been directed to someone who did when asked. Service is hit or miss in terms of friendliness, but efficient as a whole. I do like the collection of humorous post cards, and I'm always tempted to grab a few and send them to random friends, except for the fear that my lack of French skills will lead to me sending a wildly inappropriate post card by mistake. Despite the many things here to browse, I usually don't get a chance to as there is rarely a line and I've never had to kill more than five minutes here. Don't people send things by post anymore?? I'm also a bit confused by Myke's "they only take cash" and Mindy's "they don't take cash" observations, as I've always paid in cash but have alway seen credit card machines at each counter. This is a basic Swiss Post office. It has a great location as you make your way to the train station and it has a bit of everything, selling lightbulbs, books, and phones. They have a ticketing system in place and service is always rapid. I've had great luck each time i've went working with the teller in english. One downside to La Poste is that it's cash only. Keep that in mind when you have to mail packages/letters. read more

This is more than just a basic Swiss post office. From all the post offices I have been too in Switzerland so far, this is the nicest one, and in an impressive building. At the other end of the building you will find the Geneva tourism office. This location has all the Swiss post services such as: Swiss post financial, store (from light bulbs, to cookbooks, to paper, cell phones, and pens), post boxes, to shipping. There is a ticketing system, and they even tell you how long the anticipated wait is going to be. You can look through all the odds and ends that they sell as you wait for your ticket number to show up in bright lights on the board. I have always had someone speak a bit of English at this location, which is not typical at all postal offices in smaller towns. Also, it doesn't take cash, but if you have a Post Finance account you can use your post card to pay for purchases. read more
