Ok so maybe I came on a good day if I were to compare my experience with some of the reviews. Maybe it's different for the lunch crowd because I enjoyed my meal. I mean for 12.95, you can't really expect fine dining right? You get a choice of soup or salad (very big salad), main dish, coffee or tea with dessert plus complimentary garlic bread with tzatziki. Can't beat that! I got the two sticks of pork souvlaki and it was very good. Right amounts of spices and charred very nicely. My aunt got the fried calamari and it was crispy yet tender and not chewy. My cousin got the lamb chops that were cooked medium like she asked. So no complaints in the food department. With only one waitress and the owner doing the lunch service (the rush), we were greeted with a friendly attitude and both were all smiles. Can't complain with the service either. Being that this place is 70 km away from my house, I would only come here when visiting my aunt and uncle. I cannot remember the last time I had a dining experience that was so bad. I've been meaning to write a review for a while but wanted a bit of time to gather my thoughts. The restaurant from the outside looks beautiful but don't let it fool you. Inside is a totally different story. My family and I arrived on a hot summer evening. We were seated and right away I noticed how hot it was in the place. That's when I discovered they had no a/c in the place. How a restaurant in this day and age not have any form of a/c is beyond me. They did have ceiling fans where we were seated but of the two, only one was working. Not having a/c aside, we decided to give the place a chance. Big mistake. At least it was byow. We asked the waiter for an ice bucket for our wine. He brought one but it was mostly water with only a few ice cubes floating on top and rapidly melted probably due to the heat in the restaurant. The menus felt tacky and unclean. Even the door to wash room felt tacky probably due to how humid it was. The restaurant felt like it had been neglected. We decided to order the Chicken Trio (Chicken oregano breast combined with 3 butterfly garlic shrimps and one brochette of 3 grilled scallops) and the Seafood Lovers Mezze (Butterfly garlic shrimps, scampies, scallops and fried calamari). The waiter made a remark and had a look of distain that we didn't order any appetizers. It was a little off-putting to say the least. The meals were greasy and a mess. Everything was crowded together on plate. The calamari was soggy and not crispy. The worst offence was that the scallops were fake!!! They use imitation scallops!!! Location: Off of Sources in the West Island. Parking is a pain in the ass and I wasn't able to get into their poorly laid out lot. As a result, I parked at the garage next door. If you do manage to use the parking lot, be warned - some people park like imbeciles and my friend barely got her car out of her spot. The place: The restaurant is in a very old house, which gives it a certain cozy ambiance. That said, it's very dimly lit. Unlike other reviewers, I didn't notice cobwebs or dust - the place looked clean to me, though I did notice stains on the table cloths. Note that we were seated downstairs so my comment applies to this floor only. While there were numerous tables, I didn't find myself feeling crowded at all. There seemed to be plenty of space between tables. The entrance is a bit of car crash though - it's very small and people crowd around the door making it difficult to get in and out (especially when people hover right outside the front door, making it almost impossible to actually open the door. Hello? Move, maybe? The goods: The food wasn't a disaster but it was very ordinary and in my opinion, not traditional Greek cuisine. My friends ordered butterfly shrimp while I ordered the scampi (ironically, I recently returned from Greece where I Iearned that much of the shrimp and scampi that they get are imported). Anyway, the scampi were very small and half of them were hard to de-shell. Of course, we weren't given shrimp forks (or garlic butter) - we had to ask for them. The rice was good, but the potatoes and the scampi were on the bland side. The side salad was OK but could have used a tastier dressing. My friends liked the shrimp but we all agreed that we probably wouldn't come back here because the food is on the mediocre side. I mean, it's OK but you can get much better Greek food elsewhere. We ended with the key lime pie, and liked that a lot. Service: OK. A bit slow. We also didn't really appreciate the not-so-subtle hints where we were encouraged to pay the bill and leave. We get it - you have two services - but we left before the 2nd service started. There was no real need to indirectly kick us out. All the way in West Island, this Greek restaurant was reserved for a retirement party at 7:30 pm. The restaurant hostess was not the most friendliest person. I felt we were burden. Finally, when we got up, the upstairs was still 3/4 full, and it wasn't ready for our party. Finally, the previous customers left, the staff cleared and cleaned the tables very quick but you can see the residuals. I know we are a huge group of 40-50 people, and it's overwhelming for the staff, but you provide restaurant service, so you don't need to get frustrated. Plus, we were not picky people. Finally, when our guest of honor arrived, we greeted and then sat. Let me tell you, it was super tight among all of us. Plus, the heat in the room was horrible; no ventilation passing through. Since we are such big group, there was a set menu, but it was not on the papers. The waiter had to scream to tell us what's on the menu. Unfortunately, everything on the set menu was meat related, I had to request something vegetarian or pescatarian. They were able to change my platter to butterfly shrimp platter. So we have been told there is salad or soup. I chose salad. People who chose soup, got them in their bowl, but our salads were taking pretty long, but then it comes as side dish on our platters. People with soup also got the salad either way. Very weird!!! My shrimp and rice were good, but the salad were completely soaked in the dressing, which was unbearable to eat. We just got back from La Porte Grecque and I have to say it was very, very disappointing. Firstly, the chandeliers are covered in cobwebs, the mirrors are filthy, kitchen doors are squeaky and the floor is wall to wall carpet. Food and carpet just don't mix, in my opinion. If this was the cleanliness of what we could be seen, one could only imagine the state of what we could not see, namely the kitchen. Secondly, employees are dressed like they came from or are going to a Yoga class. I understand COVID changed things, but not dressing up to work at a restaurant should not be one of those changes. Lastly, after only 2 minutes having ordered Calamari fritti, our plate was served. It was warm, but no more. How was that remotely possible? Was the plate perhaps waiting in a food warmer beforehand? Then, none of the meat we ordered, Rib Steak and lamb Trio, had any hint of salt, pepper or seasonings of any kind. Very bland food in general, not to mention undercooked, fatty and gamy. The chances are therefore slim to none that we ever return to these Greek Doors unless they give them a cleaning and a fresh coat of paint. read more

I visited Montreal on July 29th, 2016. We had a group of 15 people for dinner that evening at this restaurant. There were 3 of us in the group that ordered the Bacon Wrapped Scallop entrée. When the entrée came out we found out that the bacon wasn't wrapped around scallops at all, it was IMITATION SCALLOPS (think imitation crab, the bright pink stuff)! We called the owner over to tell him about what he had found. He had the audacity to tell us that he just prepares and sells us what his seafood supplier gives him. Look at the pics, it is so obvious that it WAS NOT scallops at all. It was flakey and rolled out in sections just like the imitation crab sticks. My favorite Greek restaurant in all of Montreal! Home made style Greek food with unbeatable prices! Their home baked potatoes are always moist with a hint of lemon. Their feta and tzatziki is fresh and full of flavor. I also love their cozy atmosphere and the fact that it's bring your own wine. They've been open for years and I try to make it at least once a year when I'm back in Montreal. It's really that good! FYI - Their website says they're open weekdays until midnight but in reality they close around 10:30PM. They're open late on weekends though. read more

Simply not good, my mom is not greek and I like her greek food better. Also, we were celebrating a birthday and asked if the house offered a dessert, the waitress said yes. At the end of our dinner, we realized they charged us for the cake that we didn't get to choose. We told the waitress that usually restaurants don't charge for birthday desserts or if they do, the client should be aware of it at the beginning and be able to choose a dessert from the menu if we have to pay for it anyways. She told us that they have free desserts for birthdays, but we didn't ask for the free dessert. It was shocking, to say the least. I won't return to this restaurant. read more

Im sorry to give this place only 1 star. The place looked so good and cute and we were craving some greek food. I got the papillon shrimp (15.95$) and my boyfriend got the bad boy plate for 22$ from the table d'hote. The plate came with only a soup. The soup was ok (similar to canned soup). The server didnt ask him how he preffered his meat, so the meat came (very late) very cooked and almost cold and dry. The "salad" was only lettuce leaves and a piece of unripe tomato. The lettuce leaves weren't properly washed(tiny particles of soil on them) and cut in very big chunks. I had to ask for a piece of lemon for the shrimps (usualy it always comes with). My boyfriend asked for a little bit of tsatsiki and it came with a dry piece of cucumber. The rice was the canned rice that you find at the supermarket. (I know the flavour). Very disappointing.. so i would not recommend. read more

T'was a birthday dinner for my aunt meaning 15 people were needed to be seated comfortably. Porte Grecque has got this down! They have plenty of large tables for large groups, even a second floor full of them. For an 8:15 reservation we had to wait about 20 minutes. Even once we got to the table they were still setting up around us with cups, cutlerly, menus, etc. Which is fine. I mean, I'd rather wait at the table than wait in the crowded front of house but next time, give the menus first! Otherwise, that's just a tease. Appetizers were ok. The garlic bread could have been more evenly garlic-y and the cold appetizer platters were just ok. More tzatiki needed. I also had a white bean soup of the day that was lacklustre. Just like a consume with small beans, lentils and vegetables sunk at the bottom. Not the hearty thing one would expect! My meal also fell a bit flat for me. For starters, my fillet mignon was not the desired medium rare or even close to that. I'm not picky! But that was medium well. I whole heatedly enjoyed the Greek rice and potatoes. Both were perfectly cooked and flavourful. The salad that came along took up half the plate could have used a kick of feta cheese but was all right. Desserts were presented on platter and the options were seemingly endless. I wonder if they make all/any of them. I tasted the apple pie and the cheesecake. The apple pie was yummy, a little more soft than I'm used to but great with the scoop of vanilla ice cream. The cheesecake was a lot to handle with the overload of chocolate but pretty good too. I've got to hand it to the servers! They did a great job getting to everyone, handling so many varying orders and never letting the little things slide. We were invited to dinner at La Porte Grecque by family ( a couple in their 80's and had made a reservation for 5 people this past Saturday night. We arrived on time for our 6 o'clock reservation which they couldn't seem to find. There was no place in the air conditioned section of the restaurant on this hot summer night so we were seated in the first section where you enter. There are 2 fans in the room, but the one by our table was not working so we were uncomfortably hot the entire time. After we were seated, no wait staff approached us for at least 15 minutes and we desperate for a glass of water. Finally, a middle-aged male came to take our order (he might have been part of management, but definitely did not seem like the regular wait staff). He said he was waiting for glasses then served us warm water. Upon request, he went to find some ice. After that our salads and bread arrived and our meals followed not long after. No one ever came by to see if everything was okay or if we needed anything. Most of the meals were quite good, 3 of us had the Fisherman's platter and the other 2 had the Oregano chicken with shrimp although they seemed more like scampi, all accompanied by what tasted like undercooked and unseasoned frozen vegetables. The reason I'm writing this review for a restaurant that I have frequented for over 20 years is for the disrespect of the middle-aged man who reluctantly waited on us. When our hostess was paying the bill, he was very impatient when she was paying with cash as she was also giving the change so she could leave him a larger gratuity. We were speaking English so he probably thought we didn't understand the insults he was muttering in French (about Seraphin, a miser who died in an attic counting his money). One couple who had never been there before, said they will never return, not because of the shabby furnishings or the cobwebs covering things on the wall beside the table, but to insult someone who is paying his salary when he is impatient to go and do something more important, that is something none of us can overlook and the restaurant should be embarrassed to treat their clientele so poorly. One day we will all be old if we are lucky to reach our eighties and I would hope will be treated with much more respect than we were. read more

I'm not sure where to even start ‍ Facing the windows you're looking at dirty windows, cobwebs and broken blinds. Looking down, the heaters are coming off the walls. Can't imagine, and don't want to know what the kitchen looks like . Upon arrival it took 10 mins for the waitress to even make an appearance. We couldn't open our wine and asked the busboy a few times and he finally brought a bottle opener which we had to open ourselves‍ We finally got the menus and all the appetizers were in Greek without any translation or explanation of what they were. If you wanted to know what you were eating you had to go online to look at it...unacceptable! The food was not great. We were not even offered coffee or dessert. Went with a group of 15 coworkers. We were seated upstairs and it was extremely hot. Everyone was complaining and we all left as soon as we could. There was one window behind us which we tried to open but it was sealed shut. We asked the waiter to open the door in the corner for some air and he said it was already open. Which it wasn't. However, the food was very good. I started with tzaziki and garlic bread, cheese pie and spanakopita. For my main meal I got a filet mignon brochette and everything was delicious. The only thing I noticed from the last time is that the meat portion was a lot smaller. Everyone elses plate had a decent portion of meat though so it might have just been a mistake. The two Reviews immediately behind this onepost 'one star' which doesn't make any sense. My wife and I along with many friends have been attending "The Greek Door" for many many years now. We once had a slightly overcooked plate which was immediately replaced. To our experience the food is always very good, the menu hasn't changed in years, the prices are still the same, the staff are excellent and Mr. Nicholas the owner is always there to deal with any issues. This place is cheap, you can get out of there for less than 20$ especially on Special days. Otherwise, the food is utterly ordinary, the service without heart and obviously a place to bring an unsecure grandma that have been there 20 times or be lazy and organize a birthday there instead of a more decent place. So overall, it's just a boring typical menu with cheap chicken dry rice (you know the yellow one that tastes like Lipton soup?). Chicken overmarinated in a sauce to hide the lack of freshness. I went to Porte Greque tonight for my first time tonight (Monday Night) and I was very dissatisfied. I went because I had a coupon--2 meals, each with soup and dessert for 20$--that I received for supporting a local sports team. The soup of the day was white bean soup. It was okay but nothing special. I ordered the Shish Kabab; marinated pork tenderloin skewered with onions and green peppers. I have to admit that the pork was very good and moist, but the kabab had only 2 tiny pieces of pepper and 3 tiny onion pieces. The salad was an obvious cheap-out. A huge bed of iceberg lettuce with a quarter of a tomato, a few cucumbers, and barely any dressing. (Was it a store-bought dressing? I don't know... I could barely taste it over the blandness of the iceberg.) The rice was the standard yellow rice that is served at so many other Greek restaurants. The potatoes were nice and crispy on the outside but bland on the inside. There were no choices for dessert other than chocolate cake. It was okay, but I am not a huge fan and would have liked something other than chocolate cake. The service was okay; our waitress was friendly and helpful. There are much better Greek restaurants in Montreal, Elounda and Mythos come to mind. Went to Porte Grecque again reluctantly, it was my sister's birthday. This place was good about fifteen year ago especially when there were no Greek restaurants in the west island, somehow their food has lost its taste over the years.. The food was just too greasy, service was kind of slow. We started with the over fried vegetables zesty pikilia platter, made me feel queasy later. The Calamari was also too greasy and soggy. I had the lamb chops, scallops covered in bacon and scampi, with a salad that looked like it came out of bag and I barely touched it. Lamb chops were okay, so were the scampi and scallops, but I would no go to this restaurant on my own free will. My nephew loves this place, as he says you get a good bang for your buck. This is an average Greek place kind of on par with Casa Grecque, if that's your thing, go ahead and enjoy. One more thing they seated us upstairs, but on Feb 18, 2012 it was 25° outside and it was boiling up there however in winter it is pretty cosy. read more

Went to Porte Grecque last night for the first time and was not too impressed. First of all I want to start by saying the only thing that made us go to this restaurant were the nice patios in a cozy setting under some trees. We thought it would be a nice place to sit outside and enjoy a nice meal. Well, you know what they say, "don't judge a book by it's cover". We were seated on the edge of the patio right and quickly realized all we heard was the loud street noise of passing traffic. That's ok, but what was really annoying is that people outside can smoke (we just moved here from the US and not used to it) so you smell second hand smoke while eating. Lovely Quebec, catch up to the times. (but that's another story) Now to the food.. We ordered the Calamari Appetizer plate to share, I ordered the Lamb Chops and my wife ordered the souvlaki plate. Calamari arrived in a reasonable time, but the were very greasy, soggy, and bland. No taste whatsoever!! They were coated in some sort of sauce, even after I squeezed some fresh lemon on them they still lacked flavor. *Strike 1*. Then came our entrees. My wife's slouvaki plate --- Had a long hair on it. *Strike 2* Then she let cut open the pork and it was raw in the middle. *Strike3* She sent it back and waited another 10 minutes while she watched me eat. ( I offered her some of my Lamb, but she does not like Lamb). The waitress return with the Souvlaki and did not even apologize, just dumped the plate in front of my wife. Came back after 5 minutes and asked: "Is it better?" with no hint of politeness to be found. Somehow I think she took it personally that the pork was raw. Lastly , my Lamb chops, were served over a bed of yellow rice and cheapy iceburg lettuce with what looked like some sort of Kraft salad dressing. Actually Kraft sald dressing has flavor, this one lacked it. The chops were alright, but again, lacked flavor, and very rubbery tasting. Grossed me out a bit since I was chewing forever.. *Strike 4* In order to compensate for the lack of flavors, we order a $2.75 scoop of tzatziki sauce which at least provided some sort of excitement. Total bill was $51 tip included.. needles to say, we will not be returning to this restaurant.. Plus the sad thing about this is that Marche Adonis is right across the street and they have the most heavenly marinated brochetts and tzatziki sauce for 1/3 of the cost.. read more
