First off, there's only street parking so you have to find a park down a side street if you can't get lucky around the establishment. I fortunately, found a park around the corner, while our friends had to park on the street behind Ventura. Ones we arrived, we see nothing but a sea of pool tables and the place is packed. Music playing, TV's on and everyone was having a good time. Everyone seemed really young like it was a college hangout but the kids were pretty cool. Our wait time was 45 mins but it seemed to go by pretty quickly since we ordered a few beers and seltzers and while hanging out. I did see a menu with food but I think they only serve food until 7p. Anyway, this is a cool spot to come hangout and shoot pool. The place seemed pretty safe with no knuckle heads that night. Oh one last thing, there was a line for the girls bathroom because I think there is only one stall in there. The guys bathroom had a stall and a urinal so there wasn't really a line. HONEST REVIEW/STORY TIME: I drove to Los angeles from san…read morejose today with my friends to celebrate my birthday. We got to my friends apartment at midnight, and wanted to grab a beer at a bar, so we walked to the nearest one on maps, which happened to be The Oaks Tavern. One of my friends met us here, who had just gotten of a flight and had a backpack with him. The bouncer was kind enough to let him put his backpack in the closet to keep it safe, which was very nice. While at the bar, i asked the bartender for 4 scrimshaws, to which he had responded "40$". I go in my wallet and grab said $40 and hand it to him (2 twenties) after i hand him the cash i search my wallet for smaller bills to give him a tip... as im looking through my wallet the bartender says "is there anything else in here? like a tip?"... I have worked in the service industry for the last 5 years of my life as a server, never have i once asked a guest for a tip. This was very disappointing in my eyes as while service workers deserved to be tipped due to their hard work, they are not entitled to one. This experience with the bartender was very disappointing, and off putting. i was having a great time, and once this interaction happened tbh it ruined my night. Outside of that interaction this bar is a great place, they decorated everything for halloween, which i really appreciated, and the DJ hosting karaoke night was a fantastic entertainer. with that being said, service workers DESERVE TIPS, but they shouldn't go and ask the guest for once, especially when the guest is in the process of searching their wallet for a tip.

Not sure what kind of felt they use on the tables, but think they got a deal at the local fabric store. I guess they went cheap because people are probably spilling beer on the tables all the time. There were few people so I guess they did not want to spend all their profits by turning the AC on. We were fine with that, but really get a fan or something. The place is clean, has a great counter and lovely tables to eat at. We were very happy there. The service was the best. Our server was just so cute and sweet and she took such good care of us. Our food was delivered hot, the minute it came out, all made to order. Our server checked on us a few times and again, she was just a kind young woman. One some nights they have a jazz band. We did not see that so I have no opinion. The food is the best. The fish and chips were perfect with the right amount of batter and the chips were crisp and so good. I had a burger and mashed potatoes on the side. It was cooked rare like I asked and it was great with Dubliner cheese on it. My mashed was so good with gravy on the side. So fluffy and clearly just made for me. Their ice tea is great. They have a full bar and of course Guinness on tap and other things. We will be back.
