The cook prepares the meals almost in sight of all, especially if you sit at the bar We had the enchiladas Rosa's. With meat. I have eaten at Mexican restaurants from California to Ohio. I ordered the bistec. It was not "steak" as you would think as most restaurants call steak. It was very dry, greasy, over cooked (like jerky), Blah! It was $24 which I don't mind if it's NOT dog food! Seemed it was pre-cooked earlier in the day. The rice was from the day before and the refried beans were dry. Definitely not close to 5-stars, or 2. This was the worst Mexican food I ever had eaten. I am ashamed that they even served that trash to my family. I came to eat, not for the music or the ambiance. If you won't eat it, don't serve it. Hidden gem! Delicious, authentic Mexican food! My husband and I from out of town and here for the week, we have already gone back for seconds! I'd been trying to make it in for a year, and I'm glad I finally made it in, but I won't be back. The space reminded me of the amazing hole in the wall Mexican joints from back home. But everything was overpriced, the menu was hard to decipher, and the service was mediocre. I'm on the search for authentic Mexican and they claim they are, and they may be, but not like anything I've ever had. As a Texan, I've grown up eating Mexican and Tex-Mex as well as New Mexican and other Southwestern variants of Mexican foods, the common thread in all of these is the spice. The use of Chiles, cumin, cilantro, lime, vinegar, and garlic are characteristic in their dishes. Spice is not heat, though many of these dishes are warm in taste. La Poblana misses this mark. Their food was sweet, their burrito stuffed with rice like the pop culture fast food burrito, and enchiladas smothered in a sweet sour cream that drowned out the taste of anything else. The queso was bland, the salsa mild and sweet, and chips cold and saltless. Might be time to return to the recipe book, or maybe abuela's kitchen. Wishing well. read more

La Poblana has a relatively short and concise menu but they stand up to offering quality. The service is quick, food isn't that expensive ($10-13 per person) and they even have some grocery items. Came in for a quick evening bite, the place was empty during what should have been the busiest time of day. Wife ordered the fajita plate and I had the enchiladas. The fajitas were decent. They did not come out on a sizzling skillet like most places. My enchiladas were good, but the portions were smaller than what you would receive at other mexican restaurants in town. My "dinner" plate would probably be better classified as a lunch portion (the same could be said for the fajitas) I think this place excels most as a light lunch choice or perhaps a quick pick up and go option (they do have a drive in window). Why five stars? Because in spite of the fact that this is a small restaurant sharing space with a small market, the food here is really good. I had the enchiladas verdes. 4 enchiladas ( I chose carnitas from several meat choices) with a tasty and spicy green sauce. Served with rice, beans and topped with avocado slices. I know it sounds routine, but when I tried it I loved it. My tablemates agreed with my assessment (they had enchiladas rojas, a quessadilla, and a tamale platter) The guac is awesome. Their tortilla chips are fresh with a little salt. And they had my Tamarind Jarritos. The server was friendly and accommodating of our group (with 2 wee ones in tow). I hope they do well.
