Update - after talking with my husband, he thinks 1-2 stars for the al pastor meat, 2.5-3 stars overall because of the value. I'm leaning towards 2 stars because it was memorably the oldest/driest al pastor meat we've ever had. We live closeby and pass by this place 1-2x a week. Our family also orders tacos and burritos about once a week. Some reviews mentioned that it was the best tacos in Addison so we gave them a try. We ordered: Al pastor tacos Chicken tacos Al pastor burrito Prices weren't too bad for the portions with tacos for $2.50ish, and the burrito had pieces of avocado for under $10. However, the al pastor was the oldest and driest we've ever eaten in our lives, yikes. It was on the sweet side with large chunks of pineapple, but the pineapple was translucent, like a dark jelly, that we didn't recognize it as pineapple at first sight. We picked up during a weekday at lunchtime so it was disappointing to see such old al pastor being served at a popular time. There was a technology fee added to the bill (maybe for paying with credit card as we had placed our order via phone). Would not recommend. read more

Today decided on a quick fix to feed my hungry teenagers upon arriving were greeted by Adriana who was very nice and super attentive to all our needs. We were happy to have her. Moving along This is your go to place when hungry on a budget wanting decent food quickly. Actually better than most places in Addison,Il and quite frankly feel it's overlooked as it's kinda hidden towards end of parking lot. I ordered 2 steak tacos w/ cheese , tomatoes and onions and 2 al pastor tacos all of which had great flavor. Guacamole was good just a small My kids ordered steak burritos and steak torta all of which they enjoyed. There is no shortage of Mexican restaurants in or around Lake Street in Addison. I mean they are literally on every corner. But, La Placita is in a class all by itself. It is some seriously good stuff. And it is cheap! Less than Burger King cheap. An order of three tacos, rice, beans and a can soda for $5.99. I'll take that. AND they are open 24 hours on weekends! Great, I will be sure to put you in full rotation. Thank goodness for Yelp and fellow Yelpers. Without it, I would have been forced to try all 60 "authentic" spots before tasting the goodness of LP. I heard of this place from Erika and she referred to it as an area favorite and place the group visited for an UYE. If it was good enough for the gang, I figured it was worth a try. .....Needless to say it has become a favorite of mine. I really love the food here. I have now been a few times and agree they occasionally get the order wrong and the prices seems to fluctuate and largely depends on who is at the register. But even when certain toppers are missed, it still reigns as the taco of all tacos. I have tried a few different meats and prefer cecina. I also spend an extra buck for a Jarrito or Guava drink as opposed to the regular can soda that is offered with the combo. Call in, dine in or walk in. I scarfed them down in probably 90 seconds flat. During my scarf-fest, I did taste some flavors I liked though. I had the carne asada & pollo - my usual go-tos for meat in a tortilla. They are competitively priced with my usual taco joint and I liked them - but I think my usual spot edges them out ever so slightly. La Placita is a sit down spot with a very nice lady serving you. I was pretty disappointed with the food. I got the taco plate which came with 3 tacos, beans, and rice. I got the asada, pastor, and lengua. My friend ordered a steak gordita and one chickentaco. The beans were way too salty, I couldn't eat it at all. Since the beans were also on the gordita my friend couldn't even enjoy it. The horchata was good and the salsa that came with the free chips were also good since it had a small kick. The tacos weren't very memorable though. If you want the cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and cilantro on there make sure you specify or they won't add it. My co-workers and I came here for lunch at around 12:30 PM..the place was empty and we were just standing there..I initially thought it was a meat shop due to the decor and feel...and we weren't seated until like 5 minutes later... interesting place..upon getting seated, we were not provided with menus and were just waiting and waiting so I decided to go grab menus for the group (bad customer service I would say).. Burrito, soda and fries ($4.99): great price, portions are huge and fries were perfectly warm (love when I get fries that were just made).. Free: chips & salsa upon arrival..warm just made chips! :) Customer service ..bad..as mentioned, I ended up getting the menu myself..weren't greeted when we got in...we were confused....the lady that worked there wasn't too friendly...and I don't know why the wait was soo long when the place was soo empty!! Buritto was huge and tasted good, but I still think Buenos Dias Burritos have the best burritos.. :) Parking: it may be limited if you come during busy hours because it's located in a small strip mall.. Descent Mexican food. Came here this past weekend in taste for some authentic Mexican food. I got 3 tacos, 1 chicken, 1 beef and 1 pork so I could try all tacos. It took a little longer to make them than I'm used to at a Mexican restaurant but that's ok. The chicken and steak tacos were ok, not the best I've had but good enough to get fill a hunger. I wasn't fond of the pork taco. I thought it was going to be made with shredded pork but it was with Chicharrones (pork rind). It tasted ok but fattening & gave me acid reflux. I can recommend chicken & steak tacos but idk about that pork. Decent Mexican food but I doubt I'll return. If I'm in the area and want Mexican, I'll just stick to Cilantro across the street. Seriously, where did this siren of a senorita come from, and why is she working in a Taqueria off Lake Street in Addison, Il? Well, God works in mysterious ways and I don't know that I'll ever know the answer to that, but Jesus Christo! ... I'll be damned if it isn't worth the trip alone, just to see her. And while my tacos weren't blowing my mind, they were still damn good and had more avocado on them than any other tacos I've ever had, including tacos I've made myself- and that's saying something because I load that sh*t on. I will give a little criticism of their house-made hot sauces, both of which were pretty runny and not hot at all. In my opinion, the best tacos and burritos in the burbs, but my order is often wrong. If it's a to go order, it's consistently incorrect. I've ordered in English. I've ordered in Spanish. I've repeated my order multiple times and they've repeated the order back to me. Still, it somehow is always screwed up. I think it's a lost cause. 2 Tacos (1 Lengua, 1 Al Carbon) with onions and cilantro. I ask them to add cheese, sour cream and avocado. A side of beans. This is my order every time, but it's rarely what I receive. When I've checked my order before leaving seems to be the only times they've gotten it right. And they look at me like I'm crazy for it. The food is the best Mexican I've had, and it's an expansive menu with everything from your giant burritos, tortas, breakfast, seafood, it goes on-and-on. I pledge my allegiance to La Placita, forgoing other Mexican joints in favor of this awesome joint. My husband and I wanted to try a new place and came on in. We actually drove past it and had to double back. Worth it. This place is cleaner than most establishments, but it doesn't have much in the way of ambiance. The chips and salsa were delicious and set the tone for an awesome meal. The salsa was amazing. My husband and I opted to share two entrees - he got the chicken enchiladas in suiza sauce and I got the La Placita Especial, which was described as steak fajitas. It turned out to be a thin, deliciously seasoned and tender steak topped with two fried eggs, served along side rice, beans and corn tortillas. Everything was delicious, well-seasoned and filling. I ordered the following tacos (Mexican style, of course!): Chile Relleno: 4/5 This was a first for me and I'm glad I tried it! Verdict: Very good: soft, melty, slightly cheesy, and slightly sweet. I'm a fan! Lengua: 5/5 Another first! Both a student and instructional aide swear by tongue/lengua, so I HAD to try. (Sorry-not-sorry, Mom!) Verdict: AMAZING! So tender and delicious! I think I just found my new favorite taco! (And by "favorite," I mean that I'm seriously contemplating a return visit tomorrow!) Al Carbon: 5/5 I've had many-a steak taco, but not al carbon before! Verdict: Great flavor and texture without being chewy. I'm not convinced I can go back to regular steak tacos after this! The only downsides were the saltiness and skimpy meat quantity as compared to my other tacos. Pollo: 4/5 Ahh, an oldie but goodie. Verdict: Pretty good, but on the dry side. It seems to be made with just white meat, so maybe that's why? It was also pretty salty. The portion was generous. Al Pastor: 3/5 I'm not a big pork eater (minus the occasional bacon and ham), but I'm not against it. I figured, why not? Verdict: Just "okay": it was dry and I didn't taste any pork; just spices. Stop #4 on UYE: Lake Street Taco Tour and technically the last taco tasting spot. Service was spectacular! The waitress came out with 6 plates on her arm which made me believe she's been doing this since she was 2, OK!?. I mean, lets face it, if I tried a stunt like that, I wouldn't be able to keep ONE on my arm. Like Candice G. said, the tacos didn't necessarily blow my mind but they were pretty tasty. I got a carne asada and a cecina "taco". It's in parentheses because again, I was on my no carb kick. Honestly though, I didn't miss the tortilla. The meat was seasoned well enough to be good by itself. I asked Bob Barker and he agreed, the price is definitely right for the quantity and quality you receive. So I missed the UYE taco crawl down Lake Street in 2012 and I've had the best intentions of checking out the stops at some point. Maybe I can get through them in 2013? Lunch today was a sole dining experience at La Placita. I almost carried out and ate in my car, but three or four other people were eating alone, so I was comfortable doing so too. I was greeted by a darling waitress with chips and some spicy salsa. It was delicious! I should have asked for water right away because it never hit the table, but I was distracted by the interesting artwork and colorful characters that walked in and out the door. I got a few chuckles during my visit. I had a three taco platter. Al pastor, barbacoa and carnitas (which is only available on the weekends. I skipped the refried beans and went with rice only. The first bite was reminiscent of a taco at my grandma's house back in the day. Not exactly, but I won't lie...I closed my eyes for a second and could almost see her there warming up tortillas on the gas stove in her kitchen in Lombard. The barbacoa and the carnitas were flavorful, but served with large chunks of fat mixed in. I know it's there for the flavor and it really does add to the authentic taste, but I would rather it never hit my plate. No bother. I just picked out the pieces I wouldn't eat and enjoyed the rest. Thoroughly. The al pastor was awesome! Full of flavor. No unwanted bits in my taco. It wasn't served with a pineapple salsa which I have become accustomed to, but it was still really good. The best parts? The service was outstanding! They were cleaning the whole time I was there, so the floor was immaculate. The al pastor will bring me back in the door. And it was so reasonable. I always seem to go to Panera when I visit Addison but decided to finally try something different. Decided to go simple and got a carne asada burrito. What's inside? Some avocado, sour cream, lettuce, meat, and refried beans. Not a California burrito but it was still very good! I didn't get the side of fries or a drink. They offer the burrito al carbon which means they use better cuts of meat (is what she explained to me, hah). It was very good! I also was given chips and salsa which were very delicious. Aye, me encantan los tacos. From a taco connoisseur, this place is pretty good. Based on all of the positive reviews from fellow elites, La Placita is legit. I would definitely order the al pastor and the alambres taco again since they were both delicious. The carne from the chilaquiles and the al carbon were a bit dry and overlooked but otherwise our table enjoyed the salsas and the horchata. Normally, mild salsa doesn't do anything for me but La Placita's has avocado blended into it giving it a creamy finish - make sure to get some on the side. At 4 in the morning almost any restaurant will taste good. This however tasted extra good & I was surprised that I didn't wake up with my stomach sounding like RoboCop. I ordered a steak burrito & it was phenomenal. I usually go to another buritto place on Lake Street but this one was a block closer so me & my friend stopped in. The tv's were all tuned in to Spanish channels & Spanish music was playing. Good signs that the food will eb extra authentic. If you walk into a Mexican restaurant & Gossip Girl is playing on the TV chances are that the food won't be that authentic. The chips were a little bit harder than I liked but the salsa was amazing & it was really spicy. It is really hard for me to call something spicy because I eat a lot of spicy foods but this salsa was excellent. I did liek that they gave you fries with your meal even though they were nothing special. The beef in the steak buritto was delicious & tasted very fresh. I don't really like guacamole but I could tell that it was really fresh & tasty. Great solid mexican restaurant. As you might have gathered from reviews other than mine, Addison is quite the place to get authentic mexican cuisine. This place is among the top of the pack. The food they serve is fresh, flavorful, and affordable. The venue is kept clean, with wonderful decor. Add to that the loud blasting TV (volume could be lowered a bit!) with soap operas in Spanish that only adds to the ambiance. I didn't get a chance to try the chile relleno, but I had the "carbon" meat, which is essentially beef stake slices. It's different than carne asada. It's softer on the chew, and more flavorful, with noticeable peppery taste and other spices I can't identify. The plate sizes are always generous with rice, beans, veggies, and tortilla, and I would say worth the money. 9/10 I had a taco with al pastor pork, and it's quite good, but I still their carbon beef. 7/10. I also got a chicken plate because I saw that they branded their own chicken with its own logo and all! It's grilled with skin-on, and it tastes great. Savory, mouthwatering taste. Im always down for trying new places and we were on a search for a new mexican place for some burritos and tacos. To start off the prices are amazing. Burrito for $4 and chips with salsa for a meager $1.50. The salsa came in a 20oz cup for gods sake. The burrito was big but not huge and had all the staples minus the rice but had avocado which was a nice touch. The taco was a little small but had great flavor and came with a lime wedge also a nice touch. The guacamole was ok but nothing to write home about. Great cheap place to get some solid mexican food. Unfortunately the al Carbon comes at a premium price to the other tacos that they offer, but is worth the extra money. I personally love getting the steak torta with avocado but they haven't been adding it in there so it doesn't taste as good anymore. So, after hearing some 'buzz' about how great this place is I decided I needed to check it out. Its located in a small outdoor mall on Lake, just past Mill Road, down the street from New China. Walking in, there's a good number of tables to dine in and the menu selection is extensive...place looked clean and girls were really nice...they were busy, busy, busy... They had all the fillings for tacos & burritos I enjoy - Barbacoa, Cecina, Carnita, Chile Relleno, Al Pastor, Pollo, Camaron, Carne Asada and a few I have not seen - Carne al Carbon & El Pollo Real (they're branded grilled chicken - this looked delicious)...they have tongue as well (for you Lengua lovers). Going against my usual 'go to' tacos, I went with the Carne al Carbon & half grilled chicken plate (comes with beans & rice) $5.99. I had a HUGE taste for a Chile Relleno, but sadly, they were all out (yes, I was super bummed & a little cranky, cause I'm guessin, these must be really good..). What can I say, my tastebuds are used to having their way.... The 'Al Carbon' is a steak taco but resembles more of a sliced steak fajita (only thinner strips). I ordered mine with only lettuce, cheese, avocado and crema on a corn tortilla (comes w/fresh cut lime). KNOW that this is NOT the same flavor as fajita meat, just the resemblance (to give you an idea). After first bite, you wanna know the first thing that struck me? How much I LOVED THIS CORN TORTILLA! I don't know if they are homemade, or where they get them, but this tortilla made my taco! Mild corn flavor, heated through and just merged perfectly with the tender, lightly seasoned steak...not 'juicy', but tender (non gristly), good quality meat... A few squirts of fresh lime juice and this TOTALLY hit the spot. The El Pollo plate was very SAVORY, tender (skin-on, 1/2 portion). Refried beans were light (not heavy or salty) and rice was ok. I really enjoyed this too...(if your a regular here, and haven't tried it yet, I say go for it..). Prices are very LOW! I love that you can choose corn or flour tortilla's and toppings such as avocado, fresh lime (comes w/tacos), etc. Good selection of hot (green/red) sauces...I gotta tell ya, the soups looked fantastic too..Caldode Res & Menudo is a must try the next time I visit (along w/a sampling of more taco's). Of course besides tacos, they have tortas, burritos, roasted chicken, enchiladas and nacho platters. I've only done take-out (twice in a week! whoa!) but they are really friendly and on my last visit, told me to get an extra soda if I wanted one. Niiiiiice. Chicken taco/nacho platter--it's shredded chicken, but still has a nice flavor and was really moist. The nacho platter is full of nice crispy tortilla chips, topped with mounds of the chicken and bits of white cheese. Very good. Carnitas taco--great bit of charring from the cooking process, nice flavor, a bit dry. Al Pastor taco--nice flavor, but also a bit dry. My fave is still at the carniceria down the road. Steak taco--This was my favorite and the one I will most likely order each time I visit. Really flavorful, tender meat. The rice and beans are OK. It was more like a filler, but adding some of their salsas upped the flavor. And the salsas? There is a nice selection you could choose from--Pico de Gallo, Salsa Verde (my fave! so flavorful), a Habanero salsa (super hot for me), an avocado salsa, and their house red salsa. There is also a milder red salsa that the woman behind the counter told me that I probably would not like as she said it's pretty mild--my guess that it's there for the folks that don't like the hot stuff. La Placita is the home of my favorite taco - the chile relleno! I've noticed that a lot of Mexican restaurants don't have these, so I was happy to see this on La Placita's menu, and head over heels when I took my first bite. The Horchata here is also very good. There's also a cooler stocked with Mexican Coke, Jarritos, and other Mexican favoritos de bebida. The free chips and salsa were tasty, but some of that salsa was too hot for my liking. The restaurant is clean, and there is plenty of seating. The waitress will take your order at your table, and you pay at the register when you are ready to leave. I may just make the 40 minute drive to La Placita for a chile relleno taco instead of heading to a taco place closer to home and *hoping* that they have them too, and make them just as good. read more

If you're the type of person who gets hungry at all hours of the day then La Placita is your type of restaurant! They're open until 11pm everyday and open 24 hours Friday and Saturday. Pretty awesome in my opinion! I stopped in for a burrito on a Saturday night and service was very quick and friendly. I had the burrito al carbon which came with fries and a drink. The portions were generous and I was only able to eat half of my burrito. For the size and price, the food was pretty good and they were generous with the steak. Don't expect anything fancy but it'll do the job when you're looking for late night food. read more

I've eaten at every little Mexican joint along this stretch of Lake Street in Addison (and there are a lot of them). You would think with there being a large Mexican population in the area that they would all be phenomenal, but that's not the case. Most of these places are just ok and many are downright awful. The place in the strip mall across the street from La Placita is horrible. Some of the worst Mexican food I've ever consumed. So, I wandered into La Placita with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. This is somewhere above a real "sit down" Mexican restaurant and Taco Bell. And for that category it's the best in the area. From 355 to York Rd. this is the best Mexican food you can get. Carry out or sit and eat. Awesome portions, great entrees (love the Enchiladas), and their rice and beans aren't just phoned in either. Really love this place. read more

wow...just...wow...I have had my good share of tacos. I mean what else do you eat after making love to whiskey shots all night???? But seriously I love steak tacos, but sometimes you get those steak tacos that are plain and the other time you get the ones that are bomb biggity but have random pieces of fat on them that you have to adorably spit back out. NOT PLACITA, the have the steak "Al Carbon" damn, just damn, and I never really liked red sauce but I love their red sauce.No dont get it twisted I have seen better hot sauce game in plenty other spots, but it does the job and the red sauce is unique. What could make it even better you might wonder?? Well try 3 tacos rice beans for 5 dollars!!! yeah thats the lunch special, easily my new favorite taco joint in Illinois, yeah I just said it... We were in the area and it was time for lunch . I would say that it was a good timing . Pleasant dining room , very attentive waitress who doted on us even though it was busy . Food was very authentic and the quantity's were large . It was not at all expensive . I would return as it was a nice find . read more
