There is a large cheese room with glass viewing area in the main dining area which adds to the ambience. There is plenty of seating to enjoy the limited menu - everything we tasted was delicious. The place was almost full when we arrived and totally full by the time we were served. We had pretty decent coffees with palmiers which were super crispy and perfectly sweet. We actually went back for more. The cheese and ham croissant was flakey, warm with gooey Camembert and a generous amount of ham. I had the braised ox tail on custard which is served with a few slices of fresh baguette. The braised ox was gelatinous and salty, the custard smooth and creamy set into the serving bowl, on top were pickled mushrooms adding a much welcome tangy refreshing way to cut through all the other richness. I'm not usually a fan of micro greens, but these were pretty tasty fresh and added texture. DELICIOUS! I only wish the serve was larger. Will definitely return because I saw many tasty looking soups being served and want to try more.

My husband and I chose Auckland for our milestone anniversary celebration trip coupled with a…read moredinner degustation meal at The Grove. We opted for the 8 course (no drink pairing) and were absolutely wowed. Coming from the US, we didn't know what it meant to start a meal with "snacks" - this included venison roasted on natural charcoal with pine dusting, pacific coast oysters, large clam shells with a mouthwatering soup, and another whose name escapes me shaped like star anise. This was just how the meal began, the it was a journey through the flavors, textures, smell, and tastes of New Zealand, my favorite being the horse mussel. We ended the meal (after 2.5 hours) with dessert snacks of various textures and flavors. I was beyond stuffed and impressed. I was also surprised that we had to pay for our meal where we checked in and weren't given a bill or check. In the US, one rarely leaves the table without paying, but the trust and care shown to customers is unparalleled. As my husband and I were heading out, the owner, Michael who knew we were Americans, wished us a Happy Thanksgiving and shared that his wife had prepared pumpkin pie at his other restaurant in honor of the holiday, if we were interested. So kind. So full - both stomachs and hearts. Please visit if you're in the area.

We chose the 8 course experience and thoroughly enjoyed it…read more We snagged a last minute reservation based on online reviews and an in person confirmation from a couple that I met on a tour. I will warn you, the experience isn't cheap, but if you're a foodie and you enjoy food experiences go ahead and take the plunge. The total experience takes about 3 hours as you are being presented with individual courses and a palate cleanse. We didn't opt for the wine pairing but I'm told it's a great choice. I thoroughly enjoy food but rarely venture outside of my comfort zone when it comes to consuming certain animals but I did and was quite surprised. I'd definitely say add this experience on your list if visiting New Zealand.

This place is so cute!! I loved the cozy, community vibes here and the communal ambiance. There is…read morea massive communal table in the center of this tiny little restaurant and little four or two person tables against the walls. I went for brekky with my lover after he told me that they have the best barista for latte art in Auckland AND it's less than 5 mins from our place in Mt Eden. I'm a sucker for latte art so I was in. We visited on a Sunday morning and we got super lucky as we didn't make a ressy (if you're a planner I'd def recommend making reservations, I'm just not that organized) and they had table options for us! We sat inside at the communal table. I loved the floral arrangements and the feel of this place was just serious Sunday brunch vibes, so chic and euro and just perfect. They also have a couple of tables outside which would be nice (we considered it) but on a sunny day, you'd probably die of heat stroke out there. Anyway, I ordered a soy flat white (after talking with baristas about which kind of coffee is the best for latte art, I've discovered that you'll almost always get the best creation in a flat white) and I was super excited that they had BAGELS on the menu. I was really looking forward to a bagel with smashed avo and tomato relish, but the server told me that they were out, so I went with second best and ordered toast with smashed avo (I made this out of sides, as the bagel was the only vegan option, and that is without the cream cheese). This place is super French, and not uber vegan friendly, but you can def make a lil vegan brekky out of sides pretty easily, and that toast was seriously on point. They gave me some chewy sourdough and a half of an avo with a little serve of tomato relish and it was the best meal out of sides I've ever had. My boyfriend got the eggs florentine. Luckily I snapped a quick pic, because he devoured that in less than 60 seconds. I think he liked it :) He also got an orange juice which was amazing. When my flat white came out (it did take a while, but the wait was so worth it), THERE WAS A KITTEN MAKE OUT OF FOAM IN MY CUP. I almost jumped out of my chair with excitement, I was so happy about this. I took like 50000 photos before I took a sip, and sent the photos to everyone I know. This place is super insta-worthy, has great latte art, and really good service as well. I definitely recommend having breakfast here if you're in the area, or make a trip for it if you love latte art.

Sweet little place reminds me of a little place in Dalston London, need a cool French radio station…read moreplaying in the background.

Ahhh the famed Antoine's, I've been waiting to eat here for years but never really found the right…read moreoccasion... until recently (unfortunately) I found out a friend whose company I enjoy dearly is as much in to food as I am and we made a pact to try and eat our way around Auckland. Neither of us had been to Antoine's but have both heard lots about owner and chef Tony Astle. (who happened to be working the kitchen that night) The reservation went smooth, until they called back to confirm the afternoon we were due to dine. I missed the call but called the number back guessing what/who called I got a really confused staff member on the other end of the line who barely spoke intelligible English who was sure I wanted to book a table of six (when I was calling back to confirm my booking for a table of two) We arrived still laughing at the strange phone call, and stood at the steps after knocking on the door (??? yeah we wtf'd) ushered in to the little waiting room (??? again wtf) we peeled our coats off to have them stored away and shown to our (very small) table covered in white linen... in a bookish dining room that felt rather grandmotherly... the ambiance was hushed whispers and "don't touch anything, and sit up with your back straight"... The kind of fancy pants pompatry that I feared as a kid. The food... it wasn't outstanding certainly not what you'd expect for $$$$$... with all the great food and dining that's out there in Auckland today... my salmon gazpacho sort of looked at its feet shoved its hands in its pockets shrugged and heaved an apologetic sigh. The duck l'orange was boring and coyly sweet and a little dry... The oxtail was pretty bold and flavorful and wonderfully aromatic, fall off the bone delicious but it wasn't enough to redeem the rest of the experience. The dessert was pleasant at best. The wait staff was servile and theatrically trite... and didn't know when asked simple questions regarding the dishes... but knowledge about the wine was pretty good once you get past the thick accents. The strangest moment of all was at the end of the night going to pay... this place doesn't take eftpos, and the credit card went through an old zip zap (kids do you even know what this is???) and you're handed a hand filled receipt. It completed our time warp and we headed back through the doors to a world post Robert Muldoon and Margaret Thatcher. Pockets $445 (inc 120 for wine) lighter hardly feeling like we got our moneys worth... perhaps that is the cost for time travel.

It's toasty and the selections of things are incredible. We got lots of things I cannot pronounce or attempt to spell, but they consisted of : the croque monsieur, almond croissant, cheesy bread, croissant with onions and nuts and cheese(yes and it's SO GOOD). If you're looking for a go to, quick breakfast, and a delicious latte. The prices are great and the lady owning it was super sweet. GO, don't wait.

Now I'm no connoisseur of French baked goods, but this place is a definite pleaser. Someone brought…read morehome an olive bread from La Voie Francaise that got me hooked, so I decided to have a late morning pastry feast of my own. A raspberry chocolate croissant, a chocolate brioche, and a canele topped my plate. The canele was my highlight, crispy and sweet on the outside and gooey on the inside. The brioche was freshly warm and soft but not too rich. The croissant was on the verge, somewhat stale around the edges but still enjoyable. The ups: these pastries and the olive bread were delicious. Prices are very reasonable too, only $10 all up for the three sweets. La Voie Francaise also boasts an inviting atmosphere that's relaxing but well kempt. The downs: I'm not convinced by these tastings that La Voie is all the rage, but that's probably just because I've been spoiled by the French market in Parnell. I'll be back for a croque monsieur at some stage, maybe my mind will change.
