Several employees were gathered at the front desk casually browsing the internet and discussing what they were looking at while I waited to be helped. The interaction felt very transactional rather than welcoming. The employee who assisted me spoke very little and showed little interest in providing friendly customer service. The employee who performed the service on my watch was similarly brief and lacked courtesy. Although I came in for a minor service rather than a significant purchase, every customer should receive the same level of professionalism and respect. Based on this experience, I would not feel comfortable returning for future purchases or services, regardless of their size.

They sized us up, decided how much money they believed we have, decided how much money they would extract from us, and were single-mindedly hell-bent on selling us more than we wanted for more than we wanted to spend. They didn't listen, at all. They tried to steer and shame us into buying what they wanted to sell us. Awful experience. So we walked out. Then we went to Leo Alfred on 161. It was a little more sophisticated sell, but the end result was the same. So we walked out. I should mention that I've done business at both of these stores in the past, but they both just lost my business. And we're not difficult customers. We just know what we want, and don't appreciate someone who doesn't listen and tries to force-sell us something we don't want. So frustrating. Then we went to Denig. Great experience. Nice people. They listened. They tried to sell us what we were asking for. Their prices were very fair - far better than the other 2 big, fancy stores that obviously have to sell you too much so they can pay for their huge overhead. Denig Jewelers are nice folks. They're good jewelers, too. I can't state strongly enough how important it was to us that they listened and were responsive and tried to meet our needs. They've earned our business, and they deserve your patronage... my highest recommendation.

I found Columbus Diamond Exchange after my boss recommended Steward. Not only did Steward and Lesley listen to my horror story of situation but Steward took great care to listen to what I was looking for in a new ring. He paid attention to every detail and even measured a current ring that I was wearing to make sure I liked the feel of the one he was going to design. Steward kept me in the loop every step of the way, from picking out the diamond to drafting the design of the ring. He was absolutely wonderful to work with and I felt like he was just as excited to make my ring as I was to get it! Diamond Exchange, to pardon the expression as pun, is a diamond in the rough in that regard. Nearly hidden on Gay St in an old bank building, much of the original charm of the building is left intact, including some elements of the lobby and old offices. Inside are treasures that are unique and individual to your tastes and needs, priced with deliberation and care. The service and individualized care is also something that, quite frankly, I didn't feel I deserved on the modest means I was able to bring to bear. But we found something that fit both my mission as well as my budget. I found something very special for my 10th wedding anniversary. I think it spoke volumes. My initial experience was not optimal. The store was busy (good sign!) but the gal who checked my jewelry in I would quickly not consider an expert. She asked how much I wanted to tag onto my jewelry while it was in their care. When I told her she turned her nose up and said it sounded a "bit high" but ok. Surely, there's 10 different ways to get me to respond to your question without directly insulting me as a potential long term client with your response. She then asked me if I was aware of the heavy duty $50 fee to appraise my ring. I smiled and said of course, as this was already quoted to me prior to my arrival. Again - it comes down to presentation. Little if any people skills. A bit disturbing. Less than a week later I got a call sharing my ring was ready. Shop was not crowded so I got in rather quickly. The young lady who checked me out was amazing. Very professional and prompt and quickly pulled my ring. She shared which documents were for my insurance and which were for my own records. Upon opening the documents I was more than mildly amused when I saw the appraisal came back HIGHER than what was so quickly blown off by the clerk who checked me in up on my initial visit. Wasn't that interesting....and I was right. She was not an expert. The overall service, delivery and operations are worth the good ratings and I will return. I'm chalking up the insults to perhaps one substandard employee or even a good one having an off day.
