We were in the area and were hungry. The food was just average, enough to keep the hunger a bay. The service was weird, the server keep laughing at the things we ordered and i was genuinely confused. We though maybe it was just her reaction to being nervous but it was hard to ignore. Then the server confused our order and then the other servers were arguing amongst themselves in front of us. Then another server brought us another order that wasn't ours and started yelling whose that belong to; there were only another table in the restaurant. The whole experience was off putting. Amending my previous review, I ordered the Parrallida la Patrona por Dos. At $40 for two, each person receives thinly cut pork chops, chicken, sausage and steak with onion, pepper, cactus, and cheese. It also comes with a salad, and rice or beans. This is a great bargain and, despite the thin cuts, you will be satisfied. Generally, this did not move my rating up or down. The most flavorful is the flattened sausage followed by the pork chops. The steak and chicken were not remarkable. The salad was very good and no one will complain. However, this platter could be enhanced at additional cost to the consumer this platter could easily score more points. Clearly, this was a management decision to drop the price point to an irrefutable level and it is quite compelling in this era of inflated restaurant prices. I will keep it at three and a half stars, but I know the birria tacos are the star of the show, outshining this platter, and I suspect many other dishes here are better. read more

My job takes me all over the 5 boroughs, we ended up in the Bronx today and we needed to find something to eat, we walked passed at first but we saw that there were ppl there seating and wasting lunch so we decided to try. The restaurant is not that big, there's outdoor seating and about 5-6 tables inside, it was clean with beautiful cultural decor such as Muerta, Mexican celebrities and more. I got the lemonade, guacamole and chips which was super fresh and shrimp tacos, our waitress was super polite and friendly, she was able to fully answer any questions we had. Ordered food through uberEats for lunch at my office. The estimated time was a 45 minute wait, within 20 minutes someone was already on the way with my food. Second time ordering and can confirm that La Patrona isn't bad, and also it's not great. Their carnitas are unconventional and very well-seasoned. No crispy ends, and they use small chunks instead of large, juicy hunks, but there are hints of citrus and maybe cardamom (???). They're pretty good. 4 stars. Their grilled chicken isn't my type, as they keep the chicken cut into large, hunky strips that are dry and lack flavor. 2.5 stars. La Patrona's rice is verrry pale. One of my main complaints, as it lacks flavor. Their beans are meh. Very bland black beans with no extra thought. The nachos never have enough chips or moisture. And while their chips are house-fried, they're incredibly thin. They'll almost dissolve by the time they make it to you. I've specified that I'd like extra in my order... Fortunately, I always have extra chips and salsa on hand to turn these into a pretty decent, certainly large meal. $12, 3 stars. Patrona offers a taco salad, and I love that! Actually this is one of my favorites, just because it's difficult to find. Because the rice and beans are bland, this dish won't astonish you. They use chicken thighs which is a good choice for the extra natural flavor. However, it doesn't go well with their quesadillas. The dish was fresh and full of fresh herbs. The is a definite redo. As far as beverages, they have assorted Mexican sodas and aguas frescas. A good way to end a good meal, the "chocó flan". First timer and I'm very happy I tried this place out. However, I read the reviews and didn't see where anyone mentions they don't serve alcohol based drinks. Their pina colada is phenomenal there's just no alcohol in it. I ordered an al pastor taco, carne asada taco, carnitas and lechon (pork skin stewed in green sauce) and all were yummy minus the lechon taco because I don't like mushy fatty things but I did taste it and it had a great flavor just not my kinda party. They offer tacos in 2 styles Mexican & American. Mexican style is simple with onions and cilantro. American style is more fattening (surprise, surprise) with crema, cheese, lettuce/tomato. I really enjoyed that they grill everything including the veggies and/or fruit that goes on the tacos provides for a nice flavor. The ambience, decor and service are top notch and not indicative of the area. Im giving them 4 stars because 1) when I said I didn't like the lechon taco the server should've offered me an option to get a different one to replace it 2) there's no darn alcohol. Nothing fancy but still it is comfortable, inviting, relaxing. Staff is nice, attentive, not rude, pretentious, too busy to care. If you speak Spanish, major plus for you. Food is tasty and clean.
