Can you believe I've never been to Salvo's until yesterday? No, neither can I. I'm not sure what's…read morehappened -I planned to plenty of times, but something always came up. Well, yesterday, whilst it rained and thundered, my friend and I chose to venture out on a hunt for something to eat. In the end we picked Salvo's, and I'm really pleased we did. The restaurant itself is extremely pleasant; the space is open, inviting, clean and has some wonderful decoration-including huge prints of the original Salvo himself, along with the chaps who set up the restaurant with him back in the day. The menus have lovely insights into the business, and it's always lovely to see where a place of such high regard comes from, and it's lovely to look at whilst perusing what to eat. The staff were all absolutely fantastic, all fully friendly, and ready to help. Each person that served us made sure everything was perfect, which all goes toward a better experience. To be fair, I should have taken the advice of our waiter, since I insisted on having chips to go with my pot roast beef (yep, being really British there) and he was sure I wouldn't need them. I didn't! I opted for the Pot Roast Beef, which was a huge slow roasted steak, with delicious vegetables -onion, carrots, courgettes, and more. There were also three huge roast potatoes, an amazing gravy, and some incredible sugared bits of fruit -like glacier cherries, or something, which worked incredibly with the dish. The only thing I didn't enjoy so much were the potatoes, since they weren't very crispy, and I'm not a fan of dry food -I should have asked for some extra gravy, to help soak up the spuds. Even so, this is a minor thing. The side dish of veg and chips were also delicious, and my friend's lasagna was a thing to be jealous of, even with a dish of pot roast in front of me! All in all, our bill came to about £40, which was incredibly reasonable considering the quality of what we consumed. I can't wait to go back and try some of the pasta, which is unusual for me, as usually it's the last thing I would want to try. As well as that they've a really fantastic range of Italian beers, so those will be worth going back for as well. Lovely staff, quality food which you can see being made freshly from their open kitchen, and a delicious menu. Those wanting to save cash can always opt for £15 meal deal on a Sunday - two courses! Check them out!

I firmly believe that Salvo's is the finest Italian restaurant in Leeds. I think I need to break…read morethis down into bullet points otherwise I'll gush. Location: excellent, just removed from the rowdy part of Headingley but near enough to allow you to hit the bars afterwards. Service: Polite, fast and informed. Atmosphere: Relaxed, casual yet lively. Good for date or for group meals. Food: Simple yet somehow the nicest Italian food I've ever had. Everything you would expect, pastas, seafood, chicken. And of course pizzas. Real Neapolitan style pizzas with thin bases, fresh tomatoes and mozzarella, gorgeous toppings and drizzles of oil and seasoning. Drink: Extensive wine menu. The owners love their wine so much they have opened a wine bar upstairs in a tribute to their mother. Sadly, I haven't experienced this yet. Italian factor: Very noticeable. The owners are two Italian-English brothers who execute homage to their heritage perfectly. I know I ended up gushing, but basically, what I'm trying to say is GO. NOW.

Here you can find fish sustainably sourced in the form of mackerel, red mullet, line-caught bass and even sushi as well as the elusive John Dory, my favourite fish, and wild lobster and turbot. Having won an award for Best Food and Drink Outlet from the Manchester Food and Drink Festival, the fish is handpicked and purchased daily, with deliveries coming in two to three times a day. 90% of the fish is wild and the products are seasonal, meaning that you can get freshwater fish and shellfish as well as deli products, poultry and game and even vegetables, strangely enough. The value for money factor is huge here, the decor is clean and cute and it's certainly popular with the locals. Definitely one to travel for.

They have freshly baked bread, Italian meats, cheese, homemade icecream, olive oil, cream cakes and more. We stopped by for a small bite to eat, which turned into a big bite to eat and we will definitely be back. In particular, I would recommend the fresh bread from here and also the icecream (although not together), the quality of the bread and icecream is exceptionally high.

It's a triple act here - shop, cafe and takeaway. The shop sells all manner of Italian foods - pasta and Roma's home made pasta sauces, rice, polenta, pannetone, home made ice cream, sausages, charcuterie, antipasti... you name it, it's here. Then there's the take out - home made pizzas etc. (we went for a take out salami calzone which was amazing) and desserts. The desert I went for was something with an Italian name which I could barely pronounce so I'm hardly going to try and spell it now, but suffice it to say it was an amazing blend of meringue, amaretti biscuits and Nutella. We didn't sample the cafe but it was doing brisk business on a Saturday lunchtime and lots of the people were clearly regulars. The standout feature of our visit had to be the staff. Even though we were only getting a very small order, they incredibly attentive - taking time to explain the options, asking how we wanted things packing, offering to tweak the temperature of the calzone better to our suiting.

If you…read morewish to snooze through the following transmission I fully understand, but should you choose to, then know that you will miss out on OMG SPLAWSOME FTW. For the very first time I was having a main meal at Fuel. A proper dinner. Not a snack, not a smoothie. Why? Everyone I know is a cow-hide biting carnivore and refuses to come to a vegetarian restaurant with me. I know, the sods. Should I come into a windfall, I may well buy new friends, then pay for their plastic surgery so they'll look just like my old friends. I digress. My mother eats meat, but she appreciates a veggie meal just as much as she enjoys some roast chicken. So she was the perfect Fuel guest. On a lazy Saturday noon, we stopped off here before she was due to get her train back to Liverpool, ordered some of their fine coffee (which I have decided is the best coffee in all of Manchester - and they gave us a pot of hot steamed milk with our Americanos which just makes them even brillianter) and perused the menu. After much deliberation and peering over at other diners' breakfasts with a mixture of intrigue and trepidation (those things are HUGE, people), I went for the blackboard special - stuffed peppers with cous cous and a Mexican side salad. My interest was piqued as to what the salad would contain. My mum opted for the 'fish' finger sandwich, and we had their mixed sweet and normal potato wedges between us. So, the 'fish' finger sandwich, huh? You're curious, I can tell. Well, in the immortal words of one Charles Sheen, WINNING! They use breadcrumbed halloumi, served with homemade tartare sauce on a wholemeal granary bun with a delicious side salad. I of course tasted this. Seriously, if you have any doubts, even really big ones, you've got to order it. It works. It works like a dream. My baked stuffed peppers with fruity cous cous and a salad below containing kidney beans, red peppers, spring and red onion was an absolute treat too. Nobody wanted to kiss me afterwards, but that was fine. I didn't need human contact. I had epic salad. Fuel just keeps getting better every time I try something new, and I'm insanely lucky to have it a mere short stroll down the road. I promise I'll never take it for granted.
