But it's the perfect middle of Tuscany spot for access to day trips. It's in the perfect location to walk anywhere worth seeing/doing/eating/drinking in Montecatini. Easy parking all around pretty close too. I highly recommend. And the temperature in the rooms was great in the fall weather. I never did eat breakfast, but it looked great!

The rooms are comfortable and the bathroom in our room was recently remodeled and upgraded. Breakfast was a very nice selection of typical European breads, cold cuts, fruit, yogurt and eggs. The staff is truly outstanding. They went out of their was to be accommodating and all were very friendly. Our original room was across from the plaza and there was a band playing for a party late, they immediately moved us to an inside room, no questions. Breakfast staff likewise was very helpful. Only reason the hotel didn't get 5 stars is you could feel the faded elegance, like it was once a destination for the upper crust that was now more middle class. Did nothing to detract from the comfort, value, or the staff, just something to be aware of if you are expecting a brand new hotel experience. If traveling to Tuscany and staying in Montecatini, I would stay again without hesitation. BTW, park in any of the blue street parking locations around the hotel and then get the parking pass from the hotel when you check in. The pass let's you park in those spots unlimited.

Although our group mainly traveled by bus, some of our group took the train back and forth to Florence. Theres 2 stops into montecatini terme and everyone said it was quite easy to do. Its also about 1 hour or so from Siena and 2 hours to the sea by car. The hotel itself was older but I thought quite lovely. My room had high ceilings and big shuttered windows that opened a la "a room with a view," and the bed was very comfortable. There's also a large scenic park next door that locals used and was great for exercising in the morning. Only not so great things were the showers which were pretty tiny. Some in our group didnt have wands in their showers. Also the included breakfast, while totally acceptable was not the extensive spread I've seen elsewhere in italy and Europe. Overall though, a great 4 night stay here! I wish we could have stayed longer!

We had a king bed with an upstairs loft with a single bed. The bathroom was a little small, but we made it work. However the room didn't have a chest of drawers so we had to pile everything into the closet which only had 5 hangers. The staff at Grand Hotel Vittoria is amazing. From check-in, to dining, to check-out everyone was so helpful and nice. We didn't take advantage of the on-site spa or outdoor pool & steam room. D did hit the health club, but he came back shortly and said the weight machine was broken. We did dine at the restaurant for one dinner, which was very good. And we had their breakfast buffet every morning but it was the same thing each day for the 7 mornings we were there. The bar/lounge is very nice. They had have grand piano and allowed D to entertain us most evenings. The bartenders were a lot of fun and kept our drinks supplied. I liked staying at the Grand Hotel Vittoria. It's proximity to Pisa, Florence, Sienna and other Tuscan cities is perfect - no more than 1 1/2 to 2 hours of a drive. And Montecantini Terme is a nice city with plenty of restaurants and night life.

It's so funny that they still use the clunky physical key system attached to a large square block with the room number. On our last day we finally had a chance to use their refreshing outdoor pool. This place caters mostly to tour groups such as Gate 1, which my SO and I used. We didn't get a chance to use the train ourselves but apparently it's located near the Montecatini Centro stop. We stayed here as a central location for our day trips to Cinque Terre, Florence and Siena. The true rating for this place is 3.5/5 but I bumped it up to 4. The room was overall clean and a decent size. It had a table and huge bureaus, but a very tiny safe. We were not able to fit all of our electronics in there as with the other locations. Yet again we got the dreaded twin beds pushed together. We should have complained and had them put the queen sheets on them to mask their true identity. They're stingy with the towel: only 2 bath towels and extremely thin paper-like hand towels. I also attempted to use the hair dryer but instantly gave up noting that it would take forever. There are two nightstands but since one doubles as the minibar, only one has drawers. The complimentary WiFi was quite slow and required e-mail confirmation. During our free time we walked around the town from the hotel and it was only a few minutes away from the town center. We also took a quick stroll through the park at night, which I'm sure would have looked much better during the day. I will note that we had 2 meals with the Tour group here on our first and last night and the food on the last night was very delicious! We all loved the white wine more than the red one and the servers were not especially prompt. However, the swordfish dish just melted in the mouth! I like how they gave us the option to choose between 2 for several courses. The veal on the other hand was a bit chewy. Usually my SO and I would order both and share. On our first night we noticed that the Fridge in the room was not working at all. We had some medicine we needed to keep cool and we called down to the front desk. They mentioned that the fridge expert would not be available until 11 PM, which was a bit annoying since we had an early morning. He actually arrived not long after we hung up the phone thankfully. Unfortunately they could not fix the dead fridge and they were planning to swap it out with one from another room the next day. The guest services was courteous enough to store the medicine securely in the fridge in the bar downstairs for us. The next day while we were gone they swapped out the fridges but they forgot to put the medicine in it as he had promised. Oh well.

Not sure how this is different than any piece of luggage, but given we are part of a group of 30 who had to have been spending 35-40k at the hotel it seems unreasonable. Room was a little shabby as well, burnt-out lights, trash from a previous guest in the wardrobe, noticeable tear in the bedspread. They also don't have irons available for guests "for safety reasons" -- but are happy to charge €22 to dry clean and press a single men's shirt. If you have a choice in the matter, stay elsewhere -- this place is overrated and full of itself. It's fine to be a historic hotel, another matter to not put in any effort to make your guests feel welcome.
