It's no fun writing about businesses that you are disappointed by, but I believe my experience at this Eixample establishment warrants it. I was out getting drinks last night with a companion when we decided to try out this petite beer spot. As its Catalan name suggests, this bar is actually very, very small. Quite literally a hole in the wall. Indeed, this is where its charm lies: in the intimate, refined nature of the space and the high-quality beer offerings on tap. These factors themselves make Cerveseria la Més Petita remarkable, particularly in Barcelona.
Unfortunately, the customer service doesn't do nearly as much justice to the space and product. The waiter, who was busier entertaining his two "friends" than taking on any new costumers was absolutely no help in selecting from the eight artisanal beers on tap. We received no help, no smile, not even a polite recognition of our selection. What a disappointment!
Perhaps most unpleasant about my time at Cerveseria la Més Petita, though, was the way in which the bartender and his friends made us, as customers, feel completely unwanted, unsafe, and imposing. The three of them listened in in our conversation, shot us dirty looks, and generally acted as if we were a *burden* on their business. I've never felt so rushed to finish a drink and leave a place. Really, it was so bad that I felt like complaining directly to them. Yuck!
Needless to say, I probably won't be back to this spot. There's lots of potential here: the concept is brilliant, particularly in a city like Barcelona that's so heavily oriented toward wine and, these days, spirits. This spot, though, has a long way to go and could benefit from a lesson in hospitality. read more
