This is a traditional Chilean bakery with the best manjar treats! They also have empanadas and you can order food for parties. It's old school and tiny. Reminds me of home. Love it! read more

My friend took me here to have one last brunch/breakfast before I left the county. The owners are…read moreFrench and have brought their French recipes with them. They speak pretty good Chilean Spanish and are very friendly. To my understanding, the original Etienne Marcel is in Ñuñoa and they opened this location a little over a week ago. I tend to say that I'm not a dessert person, but this place could change my opinion of sweets forever. They have a variety of savory and sweet items. When we went, we ordered a quiche, an almond croissant, a pistachio eclair and a lemon eclair. The quiche has an amazing crust and the filling is just as amazing. The almond croissant has a sweet filling that just makes your mouth watery. The eclairs are out of this world. The pistachio one has a strawberry jam filling and it is topped with a pistachio icing and it was my favorite! They had so many other options, so I am pretty bummed that I couldn't try them all. My only complaint was that the cortado seemed to have been made of regular coffee and not good espresso. Don't be too picky about the bare walls. They just opened the place and are still probably working on their decor. Either way, please do yourself a favor and check this place out! You will not regret it.

I was really craving some gelato in Santiago, and we tracked this place down on Yelp. I'm glad I…read moredid. The inside features a huge display case with at least 25 or so different gelato flavors. As is usually the case with my trips to ice cream shops, I probably tried 10 flavors before finally deciding on my order. After paying at the register, I got a scoop each of tres leche, mousse, and hazelnut. They were fantastic! Rich, velvety, smooth, particularly the tres leches one. The chocolate notes were intense, the hazelnut flavor not overpowering. And the chica working the counter booked me UP. My scoops were MASSIVE. For about $3,000 pesos, I got a ridiculous amount of superb gelato. It seemed to serve lunch and dinner as well. A pretty inviting and friendly atmosphere overall. The gelato is all I'd truly need, though. If I were to stay in Santiago for long, it'd definitely be a regular spot!
This Bravissimo always brings back memories of when I first came to Santiago. This si where,…read moretogether with my study abroad group, we would meet to get ice cream and lunch. At the time, I remember thinking that this ice cream place was huge and futuristic, with the bright colors, colored plastic seating areas and the Jetson-like uniforms the servers use. Although it doesn't seem that big to me anymore, their bright colors and style still seems somewhat futuristic, meets the 90's. There are many Bravissimo's throughout the Chile (41 to be exact), but this one is my favorite (apart from the awesome memories) as it has 2 stories with a large patio for their patrons to enjoy their large ice creams and slices of cakes as well as their savory dishes such as sandwiches, salads, hamburgers and wraps. Bravissimo, is not just ice cream (although I mistakenly categorize it as such all the time). It is a perfect place to come after a long day of work to enjoy "once" with your family or during lunch time with colleagues, as they have some awesome daily specials and that are economic and good. I recommend trying their Caprice sandwich, made with tomato, arugula, ham and mantecoso cheese with a "Tuscany salsa" (which is mostly olives and mayo) on rustic italian bread. I always ask to get avocado instead of ham and it is never a problem. Very delicious and perfect to accompany one of their coffees or teas. The service is good however, the line to get ice cream is always pretty long. Don't forget to pay first and then get in line to order. They have a ton of different flavors, so ask to taste them (the guys behind the ice cream display are happy to give you as many tastings as you want). Also, although I am an ice cream fanatic, I always have to remind myself that here (despite each scoop being very economic and therefor, more enticing to buy more), their ice cream is very thick and similar to a gelato, with intense and some super sweet flavors, so 1 scoop is always enough.
Top to bottom - tres leches (I forget the main name!), mousse, and hazelnut. Delicioso!!!

The only drawback is the service is really excellent and then I think the server got overwhelmed and forgot to bring out the tart but as long as you're patient it is well worth the wait. After that excellent experience, I decided to bring my hubby for a Sunday brunch. I was VERY satisfied with their brunch menu! I could not believe the amount of food and drink that we both received--it was almost too much (in fact, we did take some breads home with us). When it comes to drinks, like pastries, they don't skimp on quality. The fresh-squeezed juices are terrific and the coffee baristas really know what they're doing. I ordered a coffee on Easter Sunday that was delish and had a hot cocoa most recently. The raspberry juice was so great that my hubby, who was feeling a little under the weather, had two! The ambiance is what you would expect from a French cafe in the city. It's a smaller space but I recommend sitting outside if you can. We sat in the far back courtyard and despite the cold temps outside, we were cozy thanks to the warm heat lamps and they also provide blankets! I highly recommend this spot for the friendly service (even if your Spanish is not great) and really delicious food. They even have a nice bakery right when you walk in the door, so it's a perfect spot to grab a quick host gift, a surprise for a friend, or even a coffee drink to go.
