Really quite sensational. Excellent service and food. The only drawback is that it is expensive but it is worth it.

Beautiful view of the lake. Upscale sushi and unique craft cocktails. My favorite restaurant in Zurich

The only peruvian restaurant in Zurich…read more As I was preparing my peru trip I wanted to try out some peruvian food. And I was hoping to get a bit of a nice peruvian feeling. And it is not in a nice neighborhood, anyway, Zurich is small. The place is kinda basic. Not really well decorated, kinda old fashion, .... I can live with that if the food is great and if the staff is really nice and helpfull. The staff was really mediocre. There were two guys for the service. But both kinda shy, quite and not very talkative. They were not selling there anything. I asked a few things on the menu, so they the opportunity to explain a bit more and to advice. I was actually hoping to see the Lola lady (the lady from the website). The food was OK, but not really overwhelming. Half of the stuff on the menu didn't seem to be authentic to me (hotdogs with french fries writtin in spanish doesn't make it more peruvian for me). What I took was good and I think peruvian food :) I won't go back...

I felt all the dishes were quite salty. Service should make more attention to guests after the meal was delivered as we needed spoon or wanted to order more drink, the server never came back till the next dish was served. If you are curious and in the neighborhood, maybe you can try here but I don't see big reason to make a trip out for this place

Tantanmen had sesame oil flavors and the shoyu broth was very light but a bit bland for me so I added the extra sauces they had on the table. The noodles are made fresh in restaurant and they have a clear glass so you can see it being made if you're lucky. It was pretty cool watching one of the workers make it. The noodles definitely tasted great and was authentic. This ramen place is a bit on the pricier side and my friend said the prices were noticable raised but she loves this place so much, it didn't bother her. There are public bathrooms downstairs that they keep taken care of. As soon as you sit, they have clear separating glasses between tables which feels very sanitary, I love it. The ramen served is very aesthetic. I love the way they write their slogan on the nori. My favorite part is that they give you a bib to wear which was easy to put on. Both my friend and I definitely needed it because we both had soup spills on our bibs haha service was nice and they have wifi as well. This place seems to get packed very easily!

I had the most amazing duck salad I've ever had in my life, with a lemon lime vinaigrette fresh finish, a beautifully prepared perfectly cooked sea bass, accompanied with the perfect sides. I was so full but could not leave out the beautiful desert. Hato is on my top 5 list with Joel Robuchon, French Laundry, morimoto's and Alain Ducasse's worldwide places. Greatness all around...5 stars!!

I looked at the menu before going and was super excited but to be honest, the host was not very friendly at all. She gave my friend and I a look and apparently we were not up to her standards or maybe she is a snooty person? Our waiter had the same attitude at first, he did not give any explanation on the menu, except that he volunteered info that we could opt for a glass of wine instead of a bottle if we wanted to save some money (not kidding!). However, when the food arrived we were in heaven! All the dishes were AH-MAH-ZING. I honestly don't know what was the best: the Hamachi with yuzu & truffle was super delicious, the dressing complemented the fish instead of overpowering it. I was super hesitant about the eggplant nigiri sushi but my friend wanted it and it surprised me pleasantly. In addition, the sashimi was by far the best one I had in Switzerland. I also want to point out that the matcha chiffon cake was a big hit, even for people like me who are typically not big on desserts. I must also admit that our waiter seemed to mellow up once we ordered food and drinks, he was very happy to give us recommendations of Japanese whiskey to finish our meal and the manager gave us free shots to end the evening - so I guess the initial awkwardness disappeared. However, I still think that restaurants should be welcoming to everyone, regardless of how much they spend, hence, I am not giving it a full 5 star review. So this is a super high 4 star review, overall I had a great night at Hato, maybe 5 star is in their future because I will definitely revisit.

I can see how some people would find her to be defensive with regard to her food. I think she is very passionate about her product, and that may come off the wrong way. She is definitely verbose, which can be a bit overwhelming, but her heart is in the right place, and she truly cares about her business. Let me tell me you about the what she did for us. My wife wrote her an email at about 10 am asking if there was any availability for lunch that same day. She responded immediately and allowed us to book the omakase. We were unaware of this, but it's actually a holiday in Zurich and the town is quite desolate. We showed up and were the only people booked for lunch. Mind you, this is a Michelin star restaurant (deservedly so), so they weren't anticipating any walk-in diners. She opened the restaurant to us, and she and her chef personally waited on us for a 2 hour omakase meal as the only guests. Most owners would not have responded and stayed closed for lunch. She took the route of being a good proprietor and gave us one of the best meals I can recall. The first dish was a corn tofu in a wasabi broth. It's the best thing I have eaten in my 10 days in Switzerland. It was followed with a delicious fresh oyster in ponzu, and then a tartare of bluefin tuna. Exceptional in quality of the ingredients and technique on every dish. The sushi courses featured a creamy miso soup, more blue fin, mushrooms, and kingfish. The kingfish was my favorite, but every one was a delight. The squid tempura with shiso was perfect, served with green tea salt on the side. I could have eaten that alone and been happy. Fatty tuna and wagyu finished out the savory dishes, with a black sesame ice cream and fresh strawberries. There were no missteps on this menu. While I have certainly had everything on that menu in one form or another, none had ever been prepared with that level of skill and quality of product. I have eaten in several Michelin starred restaurants this week, including a 2 star in Geneva. This restaurant is far superior to all of those, easily the best food I have had in Switzerland, and probably the best sushi in Europe. The owner seems to play down the interior of the restaurant as not being worthy of a Michelin star. I disagree. It's sleek, elegant, and serene. Based on the reviews, you might not like the owner, I do, but either way the product that is being put out is second to none. I cannot recommend this restaurant more.
