La morena is my favorite restaurant in the entire world. I am in Harrisonburg a few times a year and go everyday I can. When I was in college I was at La morena daily. Pro tip, 3 tacos al pastor, regular, and 1 tamale. Grab yourself some pico, avocado salsa, and slaw from the salsa bar. Take your taco, put pico and slaw, drizzle lime, and enjoy the flavor sensation. Take your tamale out of the husk, drench in avocado salsa, and thank me later. read more

I came with a group of older adults, many of whom used walkers or canes. I thought this was a restaurant where you sit down and order. But apparently not, because everybody had to get up and go order their own food and then bring it to the table. They didn't even bring water or come by and see if we needed anything. This is not a restaurant; it's more like a fast food place that has a lot of tables in it. I would not recommend it for a dining experience, though I might recommend it for pickup and carry out. The food was okay, but I would not describe it as healthy. There was really no reason to tip because no service was provided. read more

I have been on such a long search for good tacos and I thought I would never find anything, until La Morena. When I say authentic, I mean it!!! I'm from Southern California so I know my tacos and this...this is 12/10!!!!!!! Number one, the tortillas are handmade! That alone just makes the tacos taste that much better! I ordered 4 tacos (asada and al pastor) and from the first bite, I knew this would be my favorite place! They have so many meat options to choose from and any of their dishes can be made for vegetarians as well! The service was excellent and the salsa bar...so many options! Highly recommend the new peanut salsa, definitely has a kick! I've been back here 3 times in a week because I just cannot get enough! Thank you La Morena! You can have all of my money! read more

Overpriced for subpar food. Read prior reviews hoping for authentic Mexican food that tasted like home, but tasted more like Tex-Mex.

Service was great, everyone was super friendly! We got rice&veg tacos, steak tacos, bean & cheese pupusas, and pork & cheese pupusas. Decent tacos, delicious pupusas. Pupusas were big, crispy, and the dough to filling ratio was amazing. we also got their horchata and pineapple juice. Horchata was a bit grainy but we didn't mind it was still good and the pineapple juice was nice, sweet, and refreshing. Side note: they have a salsa cart/station with an array of different salsas and sauce, and all of the salsas are delicious! read more

Do yourself a favor and try La Morena but do so through DoorDash or GrubHub. Do not dine in. Although The food is delicious, The service was a cashier. We had to pick up our own food and bus our own table. The ambiance? Ummmmm....... Loud construction noise I can overlook as I'm sure it's temporary. Bugs and wasps everywhere I cannot overlook. Lost my appetite pretty quickly. But for food alone, yum. Decent pricing except cmon people $1.19 for a thimble of sour cream. Again order this place IN. read more

The food was excellent. The prices were good. Order at counter and the food came out in a timely fashion. The restaurant was clean. Counter person was efficient. read more

This place is one of Harrisonburg's hidden gems! I've been coming here for years and am so happy to see how much they have grown. The food is absolutely amazing - the chips, salsa, guacamole, and cheese dip are always amazing and fresh. They have a salsa bar with so many varieties that everyone will leave with something they love! The burritos are stuffed full of tender meat, beans, and rice and if you get the cheese on top you're in for a real treat! I've probably eaten everything off the menu and I've never been disappointed. Its all delicious and very reasonably priced! read more

I will always come here whenever I am in town. This is a perfect place for everything from a snack to a meal. I have come here every year for the past 6 years and I am surprised it is not more popular! My favorite order is either the watermelon or lemonade & chia seeds agua fresca with a torta. It is such a flavorful experience. Additionally, it is always great to support small local business in any way I can! read more

Great food! The tostadas were delicious and so was the enchilada plate. We will definitely be eating here again. Service was great and staff was very friendly. Can't wait to try something different next time. Very clean and plenty of seating. read more

The food used to be very good. The last couple times though it wasn't worth the poor service. The last time I brought my family there, it took almost an hour to get our food and people who came way after us were being served the same food we ordered. I think they forgot about us. read more

Awesome place. Love their salsas. The meats are seasoned and cooked well. The sopes are dressed generously with cheese and meat. The masa is a little dry, but that isn't unusual. I also had the tres leches cake and I was not a big fan of it. I would just get another gordita/sope/taco. read more

Best authentic street tacos. My favorite is the pork and cheese papusas. Staff is super friendly as well! I just want to jump back with the women in the kitchen so I can make this at home! I'll keep coming back in the meantime read more

OMG! I've lived in San Diego for the majority of my life. I have an exceedingly high bar for what good Mexican food should taste like. And I have never found good Mexican food on the east coast. I figured it was impossible. Let me tell you, La Morena, is the REAL DEAL! I was happily shocked at how authentic and delicious the food was! Truly exceptional and I cannot wait to come back again and again! read more

Delicious food! Great service! Burritos were packed well! I got the shrimp and steak...yummy! Prob won't do the supreme again, too much cheese on top for me, but I am sure others will love it. But good quality, next time I'll just do a burrito My partner loved the enchiladas! Will definitely go back soon! read more

Oh my goodness this is a gem. Don't be mistaken when you walk in, the convenience store should not deter you from the quality of the food. Let's taco 'bout the food here. They have a wide variety of tacos all for a reasonable price. I love their tacos. Definitely do not skimp out and get all the toppings on them. Try the other items besides tacos too. Everything is pretty on point here. I have no complaints about anything. Their aguas frescas! Amazing. Haven't had decent aguas frescas comparable to L.A. until I found this place. Must try: horchata. Their horchata is to die for. For the few taco places I've been to amongst the many in Harrisonburg, La Morena stands out in quality and price. Other places are either too expensive (Magnolia's) or are just too low quality despite the cheapness (El Sol). La Morena does it right, making me want to come back again read more

Very delicious authentic food. Best I've had in quite sometime. Highly recommended and nice establishment. We'll be back!

My favorite taco place in Harrisonburg, and my favorite place to eat overall! My first visit made a lasting impression. The owner could tell that my friend and I were new to this place. After we ordered, he gave us these small cups and directed us to the salsa bar. He explained what each of them were and their spice level. He was even nice enough to let me try their aguas frescas with no additional charge. Not sure what I got but it was good. The tacos are reasonably priced, but most importantly they are delicious! What's nice is that they don't skimp out on the meat. My personal favorite is the steak tacos. But I'll get the chicken too! Definitely check out the salsa bar and add them to yours. I recently came back and was surprised to see their updated interior! They've added more seats, which is nice to see. They also have descriptions at the salsa bar now! Which is nice because I could never remember which were which. I'm glad to see that this business is thriving! read more

This is my 2nd favorite place in town to get a torta. It's really big so today my boyfriend and I got one to split - he also got a taco and I got a pupusa. I knew their tortas were good, I was really happy with my pupusa as well. Staff was great. There are tables inside and out if you want to eat there. read more

Best tacos I have ever eaten. Among us we tried the shredded beef, carnitas, barbacoa, shredded pork, and tripe. All were delicious. When we visit Harrisonburg, we eat here at least once when we are in town. We had a papusa. Delicious! They make their own corn tortillas. So fresh! Seating is limited. And it is also a grocery store. But do not let that stop you!! read more

La Morena - Menu - Mexican Near Me - Harrisonburg, Virginia

Recently discovered this place. It is both a convenience store and a restaurant. The restaurant portion is authentic and delicious. While eating here with a group of colleagues, everyone got something a little different but we enjoyed everything. I am a big fan of the Gorditas, which is a corn flour shell deep fried with your choice of meat and lettuce, tomato, sour cream and cheese. The salsa bar is on point. However, you are only allowed to get two containers for the salsas, narrowing your choices down. There isn't too much seating, but I've never had trouble finding a table. Great for a small group of 2-4 people. read more

The food was well priced and very tasty I would easily recommend it to any other person and the salsas are delicious . :D

No sit down service, chips are an extra charge, and a mistake in our order without offering to correct it are why I give it 3 stars but the food quality is very good and the salsa bar offers some nice choice. read more

La Morena has become one of our favorite spots in town. The pupusas, tamales & tacos are out of this world! Prices are decent & food comes out relatively fast. Every time we've come they've always been super busy, & we now know why! They also offer delivery through Grubhub. read more

Cooks don't wear their mask's when cooking. Even when the owner is standing beside them. Rice is dry and tasteless, tamales were some of the worst we have had. With their lack of consideration for the public's safety, we will not be returning. Sounds like the health department visit is in order. read more

Wow! The tortas is huuuge! And must be 10000 calories but what a treat! I remember when this used to be just a 7-11 but what an improvement ! Still has a convenience store with a Latin flavor Prices are great and food is delicious it was busy on a Saturday for eat ins and carry outs. read more

Like another reviewer mentioned, don't be mistaken by the look of outside or the fact that it is part convenience store. Small business with excellent service and clean. Delicious salsas, guacamole, well seasoned tacos and freshly made corn tortillas. My kids don't like corn tortillas, but the ones they ate here they loved! My favorite was the shrimp tacos supreme. So tender and flavorful. Highly recommend. read more

Probably the best Mexican food in the area, but after seeing 2 members of the kitchen staff - including the son of the owner - preparing food with their mask below their nose, I could not get myself to eat anything they had prepared. I'm very disappointed and will not be ordering from La Morena in the future. read more

Best tacos I've had in Virginia! Tastes like home with handmade tortillas, we'll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend to others!

Wooooooah. Ok I didn't think life could get better than el sol. But this is the bomb diggity. Salsa bar is epic. Tortas are delicious. The pupusas make me soooo happy. Feels odd when you walk in and feel like you are in a convenience store but DANG! That stuffs so good. Oooh and agua fresca. That gives it a real genuine feel. Reminds me of Costa Rica. Ok-update. I have a hard time trying to compare this with el sol, because frankly I still prefer the tortas at el sol. BUT I just had a sope here and it is difficult to compare with el so as well. They are HUGE sopes here at la morena, but I still love el sol's sopes. I don't think I can say one is better than the other. My fave items here are the cheese pupusa, bean and cheese pupusa, and sopes. THE GREEN SAUCE IN THE SALSA BAR IS A MUST. read more
