Phenomenal! We ordered the salmon tartine, almond croissant, fruit plate, and two cappuccinos. Our food came out quickly and they even warmed the croissant. A must go! read more

Excellent! Very dense high quality bread. The texture is that of a hearty Baker. Stop in immediately!

A great place to meet for lunch. Excellent pastries, sandwiches, and everything else. Nice service but gets pretty crowded. The bread is the best - my son has to break into it in the car it's so good. read more

a friend has taken me for brunch many times. the chocolate croissants have a minimal amount of chocolate and disappoint. the scrambled eggs are always overcooked. coffee very good, regular croissants and other pastries are quite good although overly crisp. read more

Wow. Just Wow! When you walk in the door at LaMei- in the morning- you will be Overwhelmed by the trays of picture-perfect pastries in every size and flavor. The croissants and almond pastries are my faves but get them to go- their breakfast menu is not to be missed. Omelettes, quiche, oatmeal and several other egg items are done really well and are so tasty. Their coffee is rich and delicious. If you can't make it for breakfast then get in there for lunch!! Great sandwiches and salads always done right. But please- get a pastry! read more

My first time eating breakfast in Des Moines and the standard has now been set oh so high!! When you walk into La Mie you are greeted by beautiful stacks of bread and little desserts. The sandwich, soup and breakfast options are healthy and incredibly inexpensive. I savored every bite of my veggie scramble that was topped with creamy avocado slices. My chai latte was beautifully made and so delicious. Im so happy to have found this place via yelp and will be back to try other items on the menu. read more

Great, healthy breakfast in a space that is open and inviting. I visited on a weekday morning and found the restaurant bustling with patrons enjoying the light omelets and pastries from the wall mounted chalkboard menu. After getting my own coffee and finding a seat, my choice of a fresh spinach with bacon omelet arrived fresh from the open air kitchen. I couldn't have been more pleased with the food and the experience. read more

Pastry heaven. Oatmeal bliss. Packed in the morning for breakfast on Saturday. Good sign when the locals pack the place. Parking in the rear of building. read more

Love this place. Great vegetarian and paleo options. The cappuccinos are pretty awesome too. Totes adorbs.

If your into great bacon this is your place. They have some of the best bacon I have had traveling the world. It was a great find to go here and have the #2 breakfast menu item. Secondly, just as important to a great breakfast is they use red potatoes for their fried breakfast potato, the red is so much better as an all around usage potato then the traditional russet potato. (Do not be duped by the potato mafia, the russet is a French fry potato, NOT a fresh use potato) It is always nice to find a great restaurant that does breakfast all day and does it to the degree that La Mia does. I will definitely be back when I return to work here in this area, did I mention the BACON!!!??? read more

One of the best places in Des Moines for brunch. The menu is full of yummy omelette's. My favorite is the veggie omelette which is served with sweet potato, tomato, avocado, and broccoli. You can also order a side of fruit which hits the spot. The REAL reason I come to La Mie though is for the table full of sweets! I don't even know where to begin so I'll just say it's something you have to see for yourself. Mmm!! read more

Best breakfast pastries i've ever had. The cinnamon rolls beat anne sather's in chicago imho. Went there on saturday around 11, busy but we found a table. Ordering can be a little intimidating because everything is just up on a chalk board that is a little hard to read, and there is a line behind you. Got the keish, it was ok, but the baked goods are what you go for. Load up as many pastries into a box as you can. The fruit filled croissants are amazing. read more

I tried this place and was a little scared because I've never really been a fan of pastries and gourmet foods. I was pleasantly surprised, the food I tried was good and the best part was everything tasted VERY fresh. The prices are reasonable also. This place would have been a 5 star except the staff was a little impolite. There wasn't a clear price or name on some of the pastries or a clear discription on some dishes and when I asked the staff if they could make suggestions on dishes I was responded to impatiently, even though there wasn't a line behind me. But I didn't let their issues effect my interpretation of the food, which like I said was good. You will go in a little lost, the first couple times, trying to get use to how things are set up but this place is a great discovery for Des Moines, IA. read more

Fabulous food and reasonable. I have never had a bad meal there! Anything even the coffee is wonderful! People who work there are helpful and pleasant. read more

The best bakery in town and perfect for morning breakfast. I love La Mie. I love everything La Mie. From their pastries, to their soups, and their sandwiches. I've been coming here for years before they actually started getting the crowds! I still remember how it used to be so quiet and perfect for reading on a Saturday morning. I'm a regular for the following items on their menu: - The avocado sandwich with focaccia bread - The chicken salad sandwich - The smoked salmon egg white omelette - My go-to pastry is the one with blueberries - Occasionally the mushroom soup but it's not always on their menu! I have moved to California and I miss La Mie because I have yet to find a place that could satisfy me the same way La Mie did. If you're planning to come here, come early or you'll be stuck waiting for seats on a weekend morning. If not, weekday mornings are probably some of the best times to come here since everyone else is at work. Don't go too late or else you'll miss out on the pastry selections! They don't have much variety as it gets closer to noon. read more

I wish we came at a different time - we might have had a different experience. Unfortunately, we came an hour before closing (you'd expect there to be stuff still) but they were bare bones with their selection. What we did get was good but I feel like it wasn't their best based on other reviews. I would've rated them lower, but it wasn't their fault. I got a chocolate chip scone and apricot croissant. They were okay. read more

This place is a MUST for everyone. It's like walking into a pastry wonderland. Their sandwiches are also to die for and travel well. I often pick one up in the AM for a to-go lunch later in the day. But I think my favorite thing about La Mie is their beautiful breads. Wonderful variety and fantastic quality. read more

Not sure what all the fuss is about this place. Self serve is great if not disabled. Hard to get around. Cinnamon roll was tough and had to cut with steak knife when I got home. Won't be back. read more

Great place! Very easy to find, contemporary and minimalist decor, makes you feel cozy on a rainy day with the jazz music playing in the background. Customer service is great and the food is too. Large variety of choices both on the menu and in fresh baked sweets. I had the strawberry banana french toast last time I went and I would definitely get it again. We even took home a baguette! read more

My have the mighty have fallen... My husband and I stopped in for breakfast this morning, and the food was absolutely terrible. We have been eating at La Mie for a couple of years and usually the pastry and eggs are pretty good. Today, we ordered a ham and cheese croissant, a pear pastry, and scrambled eggs. The croissant was more like a biscuit; there were no flaky layers, just dense undercooked dough. The pear pastry was almost inedible: first of all it was undercooked; second of all I don't think that the dough was mixed well as I could taste raw flour. I know you think that it is impossible to mess up scrambled eggs, but the eggs came out way overdone: they were rubbery, brown and gray. Seriously hope that this is just a one time thing; although we won't be back anytime soon. read more

So. Yum. We went here for lunch and had a chicken pesto sandwich with a side salad and a ham sandwich and an iced latte. The salad had a nice peanut dressing and cranberries and the bread on the sandwiches were soft and fresh. I wanted to go grab some pastries to go but there was a huge rush resulting in a long line, so I will save that for next time. Unfortunately I have to give 3 stars because I ordered my latte with soy milk because I'm allergic to milk but there was milk in it so that resulted in an allergic reaction. read more

I love the grilled brie, their scones are awesome, tarts are great, and so is the oatmeal. The only problem eating here is trying to pick something because there's so many awesome choices! read more

This place is great for breakfast or lunch. I've had their Salmon Tartine, which is a good portion size, very tasty. I've been here twice and as much as I love to try new foods I enjoyed the Salmon tartine so much I decided to stick with it my second go-around. Their cappuccinos are also good, and their pastries are fantastic, at least the ones I've tried. I had the cherry tart pastry and their pecan sticky roll. I recommend getting their early during lunch hours, it gets busy and as soon as you walk in you have to order and then find a spot, unless you have someone to save a table. I love that they have bags and boxes so you can grab some pastries and bread to go. Their service has been very efficient when it get busy. Kudos to that! read more

Their ham and cheese croissant is my favorite pastry of all time! Some pastries/desserts are better than others, but there is a great variety in what they offer. I ordered a quiche past time I was here and they burnt it in the oven :( but the time before I had a delicious tuna sandwich. This place is very affordable, but seating can get tight during the lunch hour! read more

The pastries are just great. Especially butter pastries, like croissants, are so great, very crispy outside and soft inside. I think they use good quality of ingredients and that could be their good food quality. So each single items, salads, coffee and other sandwiches are great, and I never disappointed their food. The price is great too. Good place for breakfast. read more

Pastry's were okay. The set up is terrible. Line for dine in was to the door & surrounded were people sat. You felt like you were always in the way. We did not stay to dine in because of the line. read more

Lines appear long, but move fairly quickly. Bonus points for having pastries on display for you to select while the line progresses. Coffee is self serve and pretty solid. read more

This place is pretty good. Yummy pastries and good quiche. The ambiance is a little lacking and it's hard to have a conversation, pretty noisy. It's a nice place to enjoy a cup of coffee, but hopefully you aren't sitting in a booth because people will ask you if you're done because they would like your seat. Rude IMO. read more

Inexpensive, good food. I got a full salad and sandwich with drink for $13! The turkey spinach salad was great. I recommend the champagne dressing over the ranch that came with it. I also had the chicken salad on croissant. The ingredients were fresh and delicious. read more

Walking in here you just feel better. Delicious food, great decor and atmosphere. I am just speechless this place is so yummy! Great for breakfast, lunch or dinner!!! At Dinner it becomes Le Jardin, a chic place to take a date, with the best gnocchi in town! Whether you want something like a pastry you can grab and go, or you want a healthy sandwich for lunch with friends, or a different place to take a date for dinner. La Mie/Le Jardin is your best bet in town! Oh and did I mention complimentary fresh brewed ice tea with your order?! This is my kind of place! Spend less than $6 for a delicious sandwich with fresh ingredients, and a good size, fresh fruit and an ice tea! This is one place-or really two places in Des Moines I wish I could take back with me to Chicago! read more

One of the best things the Des Moines food scene has to offer. Chicago/San Fran style brunch spot. Huge table full of beautiful and delicious tarts and treats. Case full of fresh sandwiches...yes....fresh. Amazing tofu scramble.... avocado sandwich....coffee...tea....and donuts. Love the tea/coffee access... and a great patio! read more

Nice place with good food. The drink stations are a little strange and could use rearranging. The older crowd tends to congest the ice bin and clog your ability to serve yourself. That is m a mix of customer and set up error I think. Other wise the atmosphere and food were good. I will repeat! read more

Perfect in every way but space. You can never get a table. Their food and pastries are a dream!

I've had a hard time finding a truly great breakfast/brunch spot since moving to DSM. That said La Mie totally fulfilled my search for a bustling little breakfast spot. Amazing French toast...and how do you turn down those pastries?! read more

This place is amazing. The pastries are some of the best I've had. The avocado tartine tastes great. the atmosphere is nice. I love this place. I would recommend it to anyone. read more

I love coming here for breakfast on the weekend! They have so many yummy pastries that are available right as you walk in. Good luck just picking one or two! The quiche and french toast are a few of my faves when I go. My husband is a big fan of smoked salmon omelet. They also have a nice little patio out back that is great to enjoy during the summer/early fall. read more

I have visited La Mie probably 5 or 6 times in the past year. Why do I give it only three stars if I keep going back you say? The answer is the pastries. The pastries. The pastries.... My favorite is the cinnamon roll with that dab of love they call frosting. I believe that La Mie uses the same croissant dough for all their pastries; cinnamon rolls, danishes, and sticky buns, but that's okay because I am pretty sure the pastry is homemade and it is the bomb. Now for the bad news. I have had 2 different soups there. Both were pureed and bland, and one was served almost cold! (No it was not gazpacho.) I tried the quiche with hope and felt it was rubbery and again bland. My friend ordered a tuna sandwich and frankly it looked a bit nasty. I also am not a fan of the cold contemporary feel of concrete floors and bare tables. I did find the staff helpful and efficient, and like I said...the pastries! read more

Absolutely wonderful! I visited La Mie for the first time this afternoon and I could not have asked for anything more. You know how you go to a restaurant hoping to be wowed, hoping for your taste buds to be blown away, and hoping to leave completely satisfied? Well, that happened today. I had the grilled brie, pesto and roasted tomato sandwich. Words cannot described how delicious that sandwich was. Filled with gooey cheese, each bite bursts with bit a pesto and juicy tomato. And thats not all. My lunch was made complete by a freshly made pecan roll. Warm and soft on the inside and covered with candied pecans on the outside. BLISS! My mouth is watering... If you have the opportunity, you must try La Mie - I can't wait to go back! read more

La Mie is a Des Moines institution and treasure. It's a lovely experience to go on Saturday mornings. La Mie offers a variety of freshly made delectable pastries, solid quiches and desserts, and an incomparable ambiance. Service is good. Try their bacon and Swiss quiche, any omelette, macarons, their fruit dessert tarts and their pain au chocolat. You can also buy bagettes read more

Very enjoyable place! Atmosphere is relaxing, and food is excellent. I ordered the veggie scrambler & my date ordered the asparagus Brie omelette, and we smacked on a croissant while we waited for our food. The croissant was impeccable! I wanted to eat four more of them! Our food came out in a timely manner, and was also full of flavor. I loved the incorporation of different vegetable like sweet potatoes, broccoli & asparagus in the veggie scrambler. I do wish the potatoes that were our side were a bit more crispy. Will definitely return here. The only reason I'm not rating 5-stars is because service was only average & during peak hours, La Mie can be very frustrating to visit. Overall, however, La Mie is a great place to reconnect with friends, go for breakfast/brunch, or even read a book while you sit out on their patio and snack on a fresh pastry. read more
