Chips and salsa

TLDR: Hole in the wall mexican place that's easily missed while driving down hwy 14. Very friendly owner that is giving it his all and is an extremely hard worker. Hot fresh food with great flavors, we will be back to try more things out at a later date. Recommend to give it a try and see for yourself. This is a hole in the wall mexican place easily passed by. You blink and you probably already missed it. Stopped here for the first time and we were not disappointed. Upon entering it is well lite place with vibrant colors. There was ONE employee working and he was the owner, very nice, he was hard working and always moving. Service 5/5: It was a bit slow but we did not mind we as we could tell he was busy. As the only employee working and owner of the establishment he waited on us, answered phones, rung up to go orders and cooked the food. Always moving and obviously trying his hardest to keep things flowing as smoothly as possible. Food 5/5 very fresh tasting. The salsa was good, chips warm and crisp. Unfortunately they did not have cheese dip/queso ready but that was ok. He could also not do cocktails as he did not have a bartender on hand. However, we ordered chile rellano and burrito suizo and each had a taco. The dinners were huge and the burrito was stuffed with ground beef. The relleno were not too greasy and had a great batter on them. When it came to the tacos my S/O said his was solid and I really loved how the Pastor tasted. It was not dry, but very juicy and the "typical" taco sauces brought out such good flavors. Overall a positive experience and we did not mind waiting. Very friendly owner who knows what he was doing in all aspects except for bartending. He did say he struggled to find workers so at times he is not always able to accommodate dine in and to go's might get backed up more than he would have liked, but he is keeping his business afloat. I recommend giving this hole in the wall a try and see for yourself how fresh and tasty the food is.

Al pastor taco on the bottom and carne Asada taco on top

La Mesa serves literally the best Mexican food in the area. Not it's not a fancy, fine dining restaurant, it's more of a hole in the wall place that serves homemade Mexican food. They welcome you with open arms as they would do if you were visiting their home, and with genuine smiles. The owner also goes out of his way to make sure everything is to your satisfaction. We ordered an Al Pastor taco, a Carne Asada Gordita, and a carne Asada burrito. The Gordita came with lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream packed in between two semi thick fried corn masa. It was very delicious and full of flavor. The al pastor was also very fast. Not the best I've ever had but wouldn't mind ordering it again. The burrito was also delicious. A nice size for the price and came with sour cream, cheese, beans, meat and onions. Hold the lettuce and tomato please. We came for lunch and weren't in the mood to order anything else, but next time we'll probably try their dinner plate along with some margaritas.

Could not have nicer things to say about working with My Chef and Jamie Walsh for our wedding day…read morecatering. We met Jamie at our venue's vendor expo and were immediately impressed by their services, pricing, and vast food offerings. It was a no brainer to book with their group! We had our tasting a couple months before our wedding day; which is complimentary to the couple and a $50 charge for any additional guest to join. They have you select 8-10 appetizers, 2 salads, and 4 entrees to taste at their Naperville location. They also have displays of china, silverware, glasses and more to help couples select what aligns aesthetically for their special day. Jamie worked with us to make small modifications to their standard offerings to make the food exactly what we wanted! Our wedding day came and we were floored by the quality/presentation of food, level of detail in place settings, and service from all staff members. We had multiple guests say that this was some of the best wedding food they've had, steaks were not over cooked, and food tasted fresh. Jamie also let us add desserts a week out to reallocate money from a couple of guests who last minute were unable to attend. Their team was even nice enough to service items not purchased through their group: disposables for the late night snack, display and refilling of cupcakes, etc. Overall, their group went above and beyond for us under Jamie's leadership. Our tables looked great, our food was wonderful, and their team was fabulous. We truly appreciate all they've done for us and could not recommend them more! Appetizers Selected: Mac & Cheese Bites, Bacon Wrapped Dates w Honey Citrus Sauce, Cocktail Meatballs, Bruschetta Bar Salad Selected: Mixed Field Greens w Pears, Goat Cheese, Pear Infused Vinaigrette. *Alts: Candied Walnuts & Second Balsamic Dressing to offer Dinner Selections: 1. Disappointing experience despite a fresh and new business relationship. We have used this catering…read morecompany for multiple corporate events and have spent considerable money with them. Historically, the food and service have been very good, which makes our experience with our most recent BBQ event particularly disappointing. The weather was questionable the morning of the event, so we understood the decision to precook the burgers and brats. However, the weather ultimately cooperated, and the event proceeded as planned. We specifically requested that we use at least one large gas grill we provided, even if only to keep the grill/char lines going, but that did not happen. The catering team arrived on time, but the setup was not completed as expected. Two chefs who had originally been scheduled to be onsite to cook the food ultimately spent much of the event standing around with very little involvement. More importantly, the food was served lukewarm to cold even though it arrived in hotboxes, and some food was undercooked/raw. The sternos were not lit until well after the food had been set up and less than 10 minutes before mealtime, which did little to address the temperature problem. For the price we paid, the quality of service and temperature of the food were simply not acceptable. I immediately raised my concerns with the event planner after the event. When I didn't receive a follow-up, I emailed to express our disappointment. To the event planner's credit, she responded and said the owner wanted to address the matter personally and would contact me after returning from out of town. That was over a month ago, and we have still received no communication. A coworker who also helps coordinate our company events separately contacted her point of contact at the company, but also received no response. What is most disappointing is not simply that one event did not meet expectations. We have been a significant repeat customer, and we expected our concerns to be acknowledged and addressed professionally. Instead, we received no follow-up at all. We have had good experiences with this caterer in the past, which is why this situation has been frustrating. Unfortunately, the combination of cold food, a lack of attention during the event, and zero follow-up afterward has made us decide to seek catering elsewhere for our corporate events.

I am pretty much a regular at this butcher shop at this point, so I figured an update was in order…read more The employees all know me by now, and will cut whatever I want when I call in advance. You would be hard pressed to find a better shop in Chicagoland that consistently has such great quality. I am a bit of a pain in the ass when it comes to meat cuts, and these folks have always accommodated me, no matter how bizarre my request. Their dry aged brisket cuts are pretty much the standard by which all others should be measured, and trust me when I tell you that proper prep goes a long way when you are actually putting the meat to the fire. They cut meat with the smoker or grill chef in mind. While brisket cuts account for most of my visits to Meeske's, they are hardly a slacker in other areas. You can get a 2 1/2 inch ribeye or porterhouse here that will rock your brains out if you are so inclined, and actually at a lower price point than you will find at places like Mariano's. Meeske's has been my secret weapon for bad ass brisket for awhile now, but the meat easting public also deserves to know how great these folks throw down. If you are a fan of meat, this place is a no brainer. Always on point with quality and staff that is more than up to the challenge no matter what your special request might be.

We consider this quite a find. Quiet, beautifully decorated (but not overly so), back room with brick walls and "windows" that appeared to look out in an Italian neighborhood. Just nice, nice. To the food: crusty bread served with an EVOO based dip to start. We ordered a baked clams starter (delicious and decent sized clams), a lovely small mixed salad. Lovely wife ordered the double stuffed eggplant, I opted for the short rib ravioli with vodka sauce. Both excellent and enough to take some home to enjoy. We skipped dessert, but the selection we saw on the way out looked very appealing. By the way, the service was excellent, and our waitress made an excellent suggestion regarding the sauce for my dish. Afterwards, I asked aforementioned Lovely Wife when we recall the last restaurant meal we had that was any better. We had to think a bit. Based on one visit, this earns an enthusiastic Five stars. We'll be back. Soon, I hope.

Pleasant restaurant front room with a very experienced server all helped us enjoy our meal here…read more Our drinks were strong. Curiously the bread was a bit stale, but the oil concoction was very tasty. A half salad was enough to feed four people easily. It had very fresh ingredients and was all vegetable no meat. A nice mango dressing complemented it well. Two of us had the special bruschetta chicken, which was very tasty. I found the fettuccine to be a bit hard. It was definitely a generous portion. The cod came on a bed of fettuccine with a lot of tomato sauce. The cod itself was well received, but the tomato sauce was a surprise. The fourth entrée was the shrimp scampi. Surprisingly this diner ate the entire portion. She did ask for it to have less than a normal amount of garlic. The restaurant was only about half full and it was easy for us to converse comfortably. Unfortunately the chairs were all wood and not that comfortable. I can only imagine how busy it must be on a weekend night. The bar next to the dessert case was also interesting...... If we come to this area again, I'd return.

Catering Made Simple was, without question, the most stressful, unprofessional, and disappointing vendor of my entire wedding. What makes it worse is that the owner chose coercion over accountability -- attempting to pressure me into deleting my review before even agreeing to speak with me. That alone should tell you how they handle their mistakes. I posted multiple public notices tagging them and gave them a deadline -- Friday, September 26 at 12:00 PM -- to reach out and make things right. Despite several attempts, they ignored every one. Planning Failures: Our contract clearly stated a plated dinner, and I provided a detailed color-coded diagram with guest names, allergies, and meal choices weeks in advance. Despite this, staff insisted it was a buffet while we were lined up for our ceremony. I had to walk into the reception in my gown minutes before walking down the aisle to correct them. Because of their confusion and refusal to listen, our ceremony was delayed -- critical time lost as we were already working around rain. Execution Failures: We paid for full cake service, but utensils were missing, and flimsy tools from a décor box labeled "Do not use" were handed to us. Our cake, made by a close friend, was ruined when staff shoved a fragile custom topper -- still in its frame -- into the cake, splitting the top tier. One staff member even called it "cheap." They also failed to provide the highboy table we paid for and placed our cake awkwardly in the back of the dessert table. Guest Service Failures: Staff hovered over tables and repeatedly asked guests if they were finished. My own half-eaten meal was cleared while I was in the restroom, leaving me hungry at my own wedding. When I asked for water, I was escorted to the bar instead of being served. Professionalism & Accountability: My coordinator was harassed to the point of tears, and staff even threatened to pull me aside during the reception to complain about her. The owner, Greg, was present all night, saw me address problems directly, and never once spoke to me or apologized. Instead, he posted defensive public comments and tried to coerce me into removing my review. The only positive: the food was warm, tasty, and as expected from the tasting -- but that's where the good ends. The impact on our wedding was significant: * Our ceremony was delayed. * My coordinator was harassed. * Our cake -- lovingly made by a friend -- was ruined. * Guests felt uncomfortable. * I was left hungry. * The owner refused to take responsibility. To top it all off, I have since been blocked from a major Chicago wedding vendor group -- likely due to a complaint from Catering Made Simple -- instead of them engaging in constructive dialogue. Catering Made Simple failed in planning, execution, professionalism, and accountability. They caused unnecessary stress and ruined key moments of a once-in-a-lifetime day -- and then tried to silence me. Brides and grooms: do not risk your wedding on this company.
