This is one of our favorite local restaurants in Barrington. It's feels like you're family when you go there. The entire staff is always really friendly and fun when we go there. They have a great menu, we've tried almost everything on the menu and there hasn't been a dish that wasn't good. We always get their house salad and cheese bread sticks as a starter. The restaurant looks small from the outside, but they have a large rear dining area that adds a lot of tables to the restaurant. The restaurant is great for groups and kids. Highly recommend going to try this out

Ciao Baby, was ciao-licious. This place was jam-packed on a Saturday, so get your reservations! The dining area consisted of chairs and tables (no booths) and a small serving/bar area. I would categorize this place as classy, but not too fancy... and nice neighborhood restaurant. There are chalkboards on the wall, informing you of the specials. The specific night we went, the special was Shrimp Puttanesca, which I had no idea what it was, so google "Puttanesca", and tell me what you think. We ordered for appetizer Burnt Pasta -- it sounded interesting. It was fried angel hair pasta sauteed in butter and marinara so it's crispy and well done. I'm a fan of angel hair pasta, and this dish was great. Double Stuffed Eggplant -- Homemade eggplant cutlets, stuffed generously with ricotta, mozzarella and herbs. I ordered the Zuppa Di Pesce. There is also a red sauce version, but I got the white sauce version. This was a great seafood dish and had clams, mussels, calamari, shrimp in a red broth served over linguini. Others enjoyed their dishes as well, such as the linguini with clams There was only one server when we dined, with what I'm assuming was the manager/owner helping out. Nonetheless, service was good, although somewhat understandably slow. For example, we gave our card for the bill, and waited over 10-minutes to get it back.

Great place for an engagement party. Highly recommend. Nice ambiance, food, and service.

The hospitality of the staff was wonderful. Kira is simply an incredible person. Kind, sweet, and always looking out for her customers. I really appreciated the attention eating alone. Everything I saw come from the kitchen looked and smelled wonderful. I have a passion for pesto, and Ciao Baby's creamy pesto was awesome! I had it topped with a bit of chicken and sun-dried tomatoes to round the color and taste pallet. I really want to know what all of the herbs and spices were on the oil plate for dipping with the bread, yum! Everything was paired with a subtle chianti from Italy. Exquisite!

Great food, had lots of local word of mouth good reviews! No online menu, that certainly needs to be updated.

Ask the Community - Ciao Baby

Is the restaurant kid friendly?

At lunch. Might be too small of a place and loud for dinner. But, I have seen kids there.

Is this byob?

No. They have wine for sure and I believe hard alcohol too!!

My husband had the French onion soup, he said it was a 6.5 out of 10. I had the 10 oz filet and the twice baked potatoes. The filet was very under seasoned, I had to ask for salt. Very disappointed. The twice baked potatoes, were just ok, nothing special. Only had a couple bites of them. My husband ordered the 16oz Bison ribeye with Parmesan crust. It was also very under seasoned. It was just ok. He had the Brussel sprouts also. He said they were ok. For dessert I had the Sticky toffee pudding....OMG! It was amazing. My husband had the lemon blueberry bread pudding (one of the specials for the evening) that was also amazing! As far as service, it was not very good. I can't remember her name. We had to keep asking for drink refills. We also had to flag her down if we needed something because she barely checked on us. We loved the ambiance of the restaurant though.

My favorite is the chicken Alfredo pizza! Tonight, I had the primo by the slice and I am not a fan of mushrooms or sausage but I decided to give it a whirl.... Wow - sausage is bussin' and the shrooms were nice and thin with no overpowering bites! This blows any of the places around, palatine, Hoffman, Inverness, out of the water! Run, do not walk.... I ordered a large 16" cheese/sausage thin crust and a combo (no peppers). Also got an order of roasted potatoes. All of this was to-go. He asked for about 20 minutes which was no problem. I returned after 20 minutes and he was just bagging it up. My plan was to eat some of the pizza while I was driving and eat the combo later. I'm an expert at eating while driving but pizza can be a little tricky. The pieces were cut in small squares, maybe 1 1/2" around. While I don't always like them that small, I did appreciate it because I was driving. Anyway, the pizza was outstanding. Good crust, nice spices, and the sauce was really good. I ate half the pizza before I got out of Barrington. I would return just for the pizza. Now rating the combo May be a little unfair because I had it later, and I had to reheat it. It was very big, to say the least. I found the combo to be just, meh. The juice was good, but the beef was a little dry, but like I said, I didn't eat it fresh. The potatoes were a little bland. But hey, it's a pizza and pasta place, not a combo and potatoes place. So go for the pizza, you can't go wrong. And I didn't take off a star for the combo, because I did reheat it later.

Kyle was our server and he was excellent. His attitude was positive and he took time to converse but was also quick with his service. The server often makes the experience and Kyle did his part well! As for the food, we started with a half plate of grilled calamari which was more than enough for two people. The calamari was excellent tasting and perfectly cooked. The sauce was tasty and great for dipping your bread in (you get warm toasty bread at the start of your meal with a plate of seasoned olive oil for dipping). Next, we split an entree of Chicken Franchese which was more than enough food for two people...especially after the calamari. They split the meal into two plates in the kitchen, without us asking, which was really nice. The chicken was tender and flavorful. We substituted angel hair pasta and used the sauce from the chicken instead of marinara. It was excellent. We had some food left and Kyle boxed it carefully for us right at the table (I typically don't like when they take your food elsewhere to box it. I typically do it myself but this was good). Prices have crept up over the years but portions are huge and with service like we had, it makes it feel a bit more worth it. The restaurant is small and a bit cramped inside. There's typically an early crowd that thins out around 6:30 pm. You may have to wait a bit to be seated if you don't make reservations. Hopefully they move into a bigger spot in the mall they're in to make it a bit less packed. Two bathrooms are single occupant and clean but there can be a wait to get in. Gianni's is an excellent restaurant with a great team. You should check it out.
