The people who work here are very sweet and kind and its a nice change of atmosphere from the hustle and bustle of the center of Paris. Its a lot more laid back, people let their guard down and the crowd is full of all kinds of people, especially music lovers. The music here is so so good!! I discovered some of my new favorite bands here at this place and started bringing all my friends from school here and got them hooked on this amazing hidden gem.

I went over to a man working there near the DJ booth and asked if there was more live music on. He looked super angry and like a thug and shrugged and said 'i don't know' . Then I was wondering what to do as people had dispersed .. I saw a couple smoking a cigarette at the back of the bar. Me being from another country and not knowing French laws followed suit and lit a cigarette. It was such a dark and dingy bar that i wouldn't be surprised for patrons to smoke there. When my cigarette was almost finished the same angry thug looking man came up to me and grabbed my hand aggressively and squeezed it hard manhandling me until my wrist hurt and took the cigarette out of my hand and said 'get out! Get out! You are forbidden to ever be in this club again! You have broken French laws. I'm escorting you out!' I have never been treated like this in my life like I was a thief or a horrible person. I didn't know French laws were as such and it was an innocent mistake. I was manhandled and in the USA I could sue this bar for touching me in this way. I will investigate French laws and might file a claim. No one should aggressively manhandle a woman this way. Disgusting treatment of patrons. He could have kindly asked me to put the cigarette out and I would have complied. Never go this bar. Also expensive drinks

It's officially called Spoken Word (I think it has a Facebook page if you want to look it up) and it's Mondays at 8pm, and primarily in English -- a fun place to take your French friends who want to learn! It's a relatively small room and can get hot, so don't wear your favorite cashmere turtleneck sweater to this one (speaking from experience, unfortunately). If you want to recite a poem or do a skit or sing a song, you just sign up beforehand with the Italian guy wearing the top hat (don't remember his name...gah!). It's a fun little community and a good place to meet English and French speakers alike!

So at 11am, it was a good place to sit for an hour. They only have croissant and pan au chocolat, and the woman didn't know how to make a cappucino or latte. To her credit, she readily admitted such, and spoke English as well. We did have a tasty cafe creme and a hot chocolate; the pastries were fresh and tasty. The decor is 'lived in' but comfortable, complete with some interesting photography.

I've gone to several gigs in this very cramped basement. Before, it was a venue for music you could bet on a horse here, A PMU in the upstairs bar. Gambling on horses was a thing here pre war until the early 2000s. Even during The Occupation. Sadly, the old clientèle was pushed out by Bobo hipsters and Stella Artois. Over the din of bad techno, one can hear the trotting hooves of horses and old men chattering about the races. The patrons of the past are cheeky with the patrons of the present, whispering the names of the winning horses in the toilet. For example I was given the tip "Bet on Pesky Diamond, in the third!!' Sadly, that race took place in 1968 so I was too late to make the bet. As I was walking up the tiny basement stair to the main I noticed what resembled ectoplasm oozing down the left wall. Worth a look especially if you need a winning bet tip and a free phantom kiss from a horse.

We ended up going with Ava and her boyfriend Yassine, lining up after dinner, around 10:30 on a Friday night. There was a small crowd waiting outside, and it took us about a half hour to get in. The place was fun and busy, and as charming as I remembered. We got seated in a loungey upstairs area and received excellent table service. There was free popcorn and even a complimentary round of welcome drinks, a strong mini cocktail of Gentian and peated whiskey. The menu had changed over completely since my first visit. The cocktail offerings were printed onto thick printed leaves arranged on metal branches, forming a cool little tree centerpiece that replaced a paper menu (there was also a more detailed menu available online). Several of the cocktails were labeled with raindrops, indicating they were available as mocktails--helpful for Yassine, who doesn't drink alcohol. Matt and I shared two rounds, sampling a good chunk of this new menu. Everything was delicious. The Carbone was a bright, interesting cocktail made with beetroot, black garlic, Origin smoked gin, and Dartigalongue Un-Oaked, served with a cube of frozen yogurt that melted lushly into the beet-red drink. The Serre Solaire was smooth and boozy, with black tea, green walnut and milk, Cointreau, and Rémy Martin cognac. The Résilience was a highbrow tropical cocktail, with sorghum, pineapple sage, Pasquet cognac, and Savanna rum. The Permaculture was creative and flavorful, with chestnut, butter, wakame umeshu, and Avallen Calvados. I also tried a sip of Ava's Aquaponie, a light, juicy vodka drink with basil, lemon and sweet clover, St. Germain, and Grey Goose. I love Little Red Door and I'm glad I got to visit a second time and share it with my husband. We do live kind of far away, but I hope a third visit is in the cards.

Quite the place, very unique in it's décor, cocktails and service. You might need to wait a bit for…read morea table, but unless it's raining, that's no problem. The cocktails are very fun, and they even have a few beers here if that's your thing. The servers speak fluent English, and it is popular with foreigners, but it's not a tourist trap by any means.
