In Paris I was looking for help understanding French Whiskey. The team at La Maison was extremely helpful in describing some of the producers in Brittany and the Alps, and in making some great recommendations at my price point. Hands down the best place in Paris for whisky. Such a huge selection of international whisky and even a good selection of American whiskey and bourbon. The staff was polite, super knowledgeable and helpful. As an American who knows firsthand the struggles of allocation it was very nice to see some bottles that are super hard to find in the states and the prices were even more remarkable. I bought a bottle of Weller 12 year for just over 40 euro and later that day at another "whisky shop" just around the corner from this store I saw the same bottle for 250 euro. I did my research before arriving in Paris and our first order of business upon arrival was a visit to La Maison du Whiskey. Looking back, it may have not been the best decision (as I had to lug three bottles of bourbon around with me the rest of the day) but it was the only way we could fit it into our truncated timetable. Being a short walk from the metro it is very easy to get to (even for me, someone who had never been to Paris before). We walked right in and were greeted immediately. At first I was hesitant to ask for help because I wanted time to roam around, but I'm glad I surrendered what I sought. The gentleman not only spoke very passable English but he was very nice and knew exactly what I was looking for. He collected my three bottles of Blanton's (Gold, Special Reserve, and Straight from the Barrel) from the back room and I paid for them. He then set about wrapping them expertly for travel. He unboxed them, wrapped the bottles themselves in bubble wrap, re-boxed them, and then wrapped the boxes themselves in a layer of bubble wrap. He paid extra special care to detail and made sure not to damage any of the bottle's labels or packaging. And I'm glad he did because one of the bottles leaked a small amount (at some point during our week in France) and the liquid did not penetrate beyond the bubble wrap. While I was sad this happened I'm glad for the fantastic wrapping job! Also, his careful wrapping took some time and provided me ample opportunity to peruse the rest of the store. What an offering this place has. The selection is outstanding and I'm jealous for anyone that lives in Paris and has this amazing of a whiskey shop at their disposal. From the location, to the store itself, to the wonderful staff, to the wide selection, this place is A+. I already know that I'll be stopping in again the next time I'm in Paris and I can't wait! read more

I have been patronizing this store every time I visit Paris for many many years (20+ viists to Paris in my lifetime, last 10 ,minimum) Their Knowledge, selection and layout of whiskys are excellent. As is their fine selection of cognac., including many "hors d'age" i.e. not VSOP or XO, from small hard to find producers . Well worth a visit. I believe that this store actually has a better whisky selection than many so called whisky vendors in the UK, in my experience (some good ones no doubt!) . It remains to be seen how foolish Brexit will affect this venerable outlet, but pre EU, the French still drank quite a bit of whisky. So, there is hope. read more

This store is just down the street from me and it has taken 18 months for me to finally patronize them. What an amazing selection of everything one can want as far as booze goes. I only wanted some vermouth but ended up purchasing some vodka also. I was curious and asked if they might have had Pappy Van Winkle as the latest batches were recently released in the US. Wonder of wonders they did have one bottle of the 13 year old so I thought what a great find until I asked the price. It was a shocking +2200€. I wasn't prepared to spend that much so I passed. The customer service I found to be exemplary and I will definitely return as their selections cannot be beat. read more

They have a very extensive collection of whiskies from all over including Japan and Taiwan, and they had an impressive number of independently bottled whiskies. If you go downstairs, they have some super rare and old bottles that reminded me a bit of the Scotch and Whisky experience in Edinburgh. Prices are written right on the bottles, which is nice. Service was friendly without making you feel pressured, and they're fine letting you take your time and browse. Some prices are comparable in price to the US, but then some are much better than in the US, so it helps to know your prices. In addition, many bottles are hard to find at home. read more

I had to write a review for this company. This liquor store has one of the best inventory of alcohol. They have one of the friendliest, most accommodating, professional staffs I've had the pleasure of dealing with. They speak perfect English (everyone of them) and enjoys helping customers with their purchases. There are two employees I want to acknowledge. The manager Matthieu and his sales person Mai. Both Matthieu and Mai are very friendly and very very accommodating. I've spoken with a few of their employees when I call and all are very professional and friendly. This great customer service is apparent from Matthieu's leadership and his personality. Mai is always friendly and I can tell from my phone conversations with her, she is always smiling as she enjoys her career. Both Mattieu and Mai are an asset to your company. Boasting the largest selection of whiskeys in Paris, LMDW unfortunately also has the most inflated sense of self. I ordered three bottles of bourbons as an Xmas gift on their website, spending 130€ and an hour of my time choosing amongst the bourbons in stock. The package arrived in a few days, and I stored the box away until the big gift-giving day. Low and behold, when it came time to open the box there were two instead of three bottles!! But LMDW made no error in their billing, all three bottles were paid for. So where did the third (most expensive) bottle go?? Was it stolen in the warehouse, or maybe by the shippers? Was it my fault for not checking the box before slipping it under le sapin? Questions, questions... After the holidays we were finally able to reach customer service who looked into it and told us that the bottle was in fact out of stock but no one informed billing or shipping so the box was sent as is. I was offered a reimbursement or a replacement bottle. That's it, no commercial gesture for my woes. Not even free shipping on a future order. So despite the great selection and eboutique I'm giving this house one star for its hubris and stupid, flippant attitude towards its customers, as I'm one that will certainly not be returning for another visit! read more

My second visit to this very classy establishment just around the corner from the famous Madeleine church. As we arrived, my daughter informed me that despite living here since last summer, she had never ventured into this part of town as everything in this neighborhood was.. well... too expensive and a bit... hoity-toity! OK. Point well taken. This is a Scotch drinker's paradise (provided s/he has a sizeable income of some substance!) The walls are lined with a single bottle of perhaps two or three hundred varieties (counting the variations of each distillery; 10 year, 12 year, etc.) We had returned to find another bottle of a favorite that is only available in Europe. "Yes, let me check the storeroom... Ah, the last one!" Seems everyone there speaks perfect English (one of those places where you don't dare try to muddle through in poor French!) They also carry some interesting single malts NOT from Scotland, including a real barn burner we enjoy from Sweden - in fact, they had seven or eight variations of that one alone, none of which can be found in the United States. Here's a bizarre tip! The duty-free store in the Charles de Gaulle airport (Terminal 1) has a duty-free store with an excellent selection of single malts, and in fact, we've made some very good finds there as well. Turns out that if you are purchasing for travel within Europe, the prices are very much comparable to those of Le Maison du Whiskey, but... if you're LEAVING THE EU, about 20% LESS, as of course, the taxes are deducted from the price. Of course, you never know what you will find there until you're leaving the country. C'est la vie read more

Incredible selection of products and a variety of prices.......great for the newbie or the connoisseur . The staff can be a bit hit or miss.......some are helpful, but most have inflated egos and are not helpful. If you look like a tourist you will be invisible!
