Instantly became my favorite wine bar in Paris, especially as a book lover. The atmosphere is so cozy, the wait staff is personable and welcoming and the food choices are extremely tasty. We had the house wine, a ham sandwich, the tarama and chicken liver salad when we went and everything was delicious. The tarama was unreal, it was whipped in a way I have never had tarama before and I and my husband come from Greek families. The chicken salad was perfect as well and the chicken liver was grilled and seasoned to perfection. My husband and I went here while they had the Peter Turnley exhibit happening and his photos added even more ambience to the place if that is even possible. We stayed here until the back of the restaurant cleared out and honestly I would have been happy to spend all night here. It was a truly magical place that I will be sure to visit every time I go to Paris. read more

The only good thing there is duck confit. Everything else was average. Their service is not that great. Most of the waiter was unfriendly, our waiter was ok. They don't seem like they like Asian Americans. They were much nicer to have their local people. We got ignore how long time before we got service? read more

This is one of my favorite places in Paris, my favorite city in the world. Everything about it is pure perfection. This cozy space -- barely wide enough for two people to walk through at the same time -- exudes warmth, charm, and unpretentious literary character. This bookstore/wine bar mostly features French language works, so we ignorant Americans brought our own books to read. We ended up spending a few hours here having a few glasses of wine and small bites to eat. The servers here are the friendliest we've ever encountered in France. One gentleman helped us out with spot-on wine recommendations, and he had our complete trust after one glass. The food is quite tasty, and comes from across the street (the restauranteur who owns La Belle Hortense has three restaurants on the same street, and Les Philosophes' kitchen seems to be the one providing the food for this place). We visited Paris the week of Christmas and knew that bars would not likely keep the hours posted on yelp and google. We had to try though so we wandered the Marais, stopping by a few of our usuals. Of course, they had closed shop for a few days so we stopped by La Belle Hortense which was thankfully open. It is a wonderful, charming little bookshop/wine bar with a friendly bartender (we met Daniel). We easily got by with our broken French and his better English. The bar itself is relatively cozy with maybe 12 bar seats and a few 2 tops in the front. It does extend toward the back but I was not able to make my way in to see. The wines were reasonably priced and they did have the ability to order us food through the sister shop across the way (though we had just eaten). As we sipped away at our bottle, the place slowly filled up with regulars who all seemed to know each other and the night bartender who had just arrived. I definitely plan on heading back here the next time we are in Paris. read more

Such a cool place! My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place and we got so lucky! It's a cute little book shop that also serves wine and food. It's a peaceful oasis from the tourist packed streets. A lovely gentlemen greeted us and helped us pick a wine, he explained the difference between them which was so nice. He then even let us try them. The wine so yummy. He gave us a food menu and told us that they are partners with the restaurant next door. So we got the pâté, as well as something else that I am forgetting the name of. It was delicious! It a unique experience to eat/drink in a book shop, so I highly recommend. They also have a little bar too. It's a fun place. It's moderately affordable depending on what you order. About €6 on average for a glass of wine, and €11 euros for a snack. read more

What a cute place! This wine bar/bookstore has a very cool vibe. They have a limited but quality selection of wines by the glass and the food is fantastic. The food menu of their sister restaurant across the street (Les Philosphies) is available. We had several glasses of wine in addition to the best onion soup I've had in Paris. Exquisitely prepared and exactly what you think a good onion soup would be. The gentleman who runs the shop is fantastic and made our experience even better. I highly recommend!! read more

This wine bar/bookstore was featured in the NYT article "36 Hours in Paris." The article called this place "a cozy Old World-style wine bar" where "straight and gay, leather-bound and tweed-wrapped, the crowd swirls wines by the glass and chats animatedly about highfalutin topics." I cozied up to the bar here two nights in one week last October and had a wonderful time. Red wine and foie gras. Excellent. I even met an ex-pat artist who is a regular there. On the second night, he took me and my friend to his gallery to show us his politically charged, racially biting artwork. 4.75 stars. It's a bar...it's a bookstore...it's a lounge! Almost too cool for school. I'm marking it down as my current new favorite bar. No happy hour, but reasonably priced drinks. And because they don't have a "3 euro mojito" sign on the street, it's not over-run with tourists. Decent wine list. Totally chill vibe. Bar in the front, lounge in the back. Thought this would be a cozy place for a glass of wine however if you cannot read French then it may not be of interest! All the seats were taken at the bar when my boyfriend and I went so we were unable to sit and couldn't read the awesome amount of books this bar did have. read more

It's just another little bar with a few snacks, but it also serves as a place to buy a bottle of decent wine at very affordable take-away pricing. A nice Sancerre costs all of $12 to take home, which we do regularly. read more

I just simply love this place. A great stop for an 'apero' on the way to your evening destinations. Very comfortable atmoshpere, great staff, nice choice and selection of wines, a thumbs up all around.
