I dont know why this place is so popular, but it is. When you enter theres no place to stand while you look at the menu without being in someone's way. Then you have to place your order at the beginning of the line, again in the middle as they make your selections, and again as you finally pay. Its cafeteria style only you make your selection before you see what they offer. They were out of the mushroom soup so I chose the potato soup with my salad sampler. I wont do that again as it had the consistency of watered down instant mashed potatoes. I also had the chicken salad which tasted real good but was awfully dry. The strawberry spinach salad was perfect. I got some free bread for my chicken salad and made an open faced sandwich. I thought I was real clever. The restaurant is small and there are so many chairs and tables packed in there it feels like youre all one big family because you cant help but hear everyones conversations. I went early to beat the crowd, but I guess theres no off time. I would return as I thought my meal was a good value, but it wont be soon. read more

My wife and I have been eating at la Madeline for many years at locations all over Houston. We have always been pleased with the quality and unique menu options. Last Friday afternoon my wife had been shopping around Baybrook and decided to stop and get takeout for our dinner. Our order was terrible. She ordered one la Madeline pasta with chicken and she ordered the pesto chicken pasta. When she got home and we opened the containers, both were la Madeline pasta, sorta. The quality was terrible. I didn't realize this place was so popular! We waited in a huge line before ordering. I was confused because although we put in our order at the start we had to repeat our order to at least three more people in the line. Seems unnecessary. After we got our food we then had to wait in a line to get our drinks and silverware. Then the ultimate challenge- getting to our seat. The tables and chairs are so close at this restaraunt I had to try multiple routes to get through the maze without dropping my tray! Even after being seated I was so close to the person next to me that when they held their baby it was literally less than a foot from my head as it cried. Unnecessary. The restaraunt is packed, and extremely loud. The food is good though. The mushroom soup was a treat. The Caesar salad was good- although midway through I found a huge lettuce butt. What on earth? Why is this stub in my salad? Then as I moved on to my sandwich what do I know but I have a tomato butt! Listen, the toppings on the sandwich are so minimal I'm pretty sure it shouldn't go without notice that you're putting a tomato butt on there. Since I had barely any other tomato I ripped off the bad part and kept eating. The picture shows what I picked off my food. My meal was small enough that I shouldn't have had this much trash in it. The flavor is good but why do I need to inspect it so closely? The chicken salad was very good and the croissant was fresh. All in all I liked the food here and I will be back. Quel dommage! We could really use a good French restaurant in Clear Lake. La Madeline is typically a decent chain or used to be. But the Bay Area location can't seem to get it right. Maybe the silverware is all dirty. Or If the silverware is clean, the coffee is cold. If the coffee is hot AND you have a clean spoon to stir it with, your toasted sandwich is raw. Or half of your order is wrong and then, when they come back with that part corrected, the stuff they had right in the first place is cold. Or someone at your table is completely forgotten and has to go up and remind the cashier of their existence. The bakery itself is good. That's what the stars are for. read more

I went in here for a sandwich and soup couldn't even get up to go get a drink come back someone wiped off my table another family was sitting at my table then I would've had to wait in line to get my same food never again do I come back to this place! I came here for breakfast while visiting family and the experience/food was horrible! Searching for a healthy option, I ordered the oatmeal and with strawberries and blueberries and a coffee. The oatmeal was clumpy, dry and cold. I was also told they didn't have any nonfat milk for the coffee (when they have always had it previously) and I'd have to use half and half. The staff was extremely rude and unhelpful. Sad for being one of my favorite places in the past. read more

The food is okay I guess but don't even think about trying to eat here. They've crammed so very many tables in the floor space that you will constantly be getting kicked, elbowed, jostled as the waitstaff moves around. Conversation in this "cafe" is impossible due to being packed in like sardines. Wow, what a disappointment! After waiting in line, the employee at the head of the line went off to prepackage strawberries, leaving without acknowledging me. The salad preparer was nice enough to help me. I ordered the cafe sampler. The quiche was placed on a very warm plate (good), then the salad was placed on the same plate (bad). In order to get the cup of soup, I had to ask a group of employees congregated at the register for someone to wait on me. I can't tell how much I enjoyed my wilted caesar salad, served by employees who missed the customer service training. Save your money! read more

Horrible customer service....no one greeted me when I walked in. I stood in line for a while with no acknowledgement and a couple behind me was greeted and met with hand shakes and tended to immediately...while I was still waiting!! If you feel like wasting your money on a substance not fit to give a dog then in my opinion by all means enjoy this place. The food is horrible along with awful service. The service I received made me feel like I was inconveniencing them. I waited over 30 min for horrible inedible food (food used loosely). I reach out to them with pictures and no response at all. In my opinion, not receiving a response is clear indication they know the problem and choose to ignore it. read more

Just beware if you're used to coming here but haven't been in awhile the Duet Magnifique is gone and it's basically the same price (salad and sandwich) for less food (no additional side). And if you want to add a soup it's an additional charge. We had a very good breakfast with four generations of our family. There were menu selections that pleased all ages. Our grandkids had French toast loaded with fruit, three of us had omelets, and the others had the American breakfast; everyone seemed pleased with their food items. My only complaint is that the place is a bit overcrowded with tables because they're trying to maximize the use of space, but it made getting my Dad's walker through the maze a little difficult. read more

La Madeline is one of my favorite places to go for breakfast or lunch. They have excellent staff and their food is exquisite. My favorite part about this place is the quiche. We all know that La Madeleine serves the same food at all locations. I like it fine. The only reason i single this one out is because of red peppers in the spinach salad. I hate any bell pepper. Red, green, yellow and any other color variety. I'm not the person that makes a big deal. I make a valiant effort to pick them out. I am pretty good at picking at my food. I tried to add la madeleine to my breakfast outing rotation, but sadly I cannot. I just didn't like my food. My eggs were rubbery and they didn't add my requested cheese. The French toast reminded me of a honey bun which I run from whenever possible. My sausage was good, but I left feeling like I was ripped off. My food didn't leave me planning for my next visit. I waited 20 minutes (while the food sat in the window) and then my bread on my sandwich was soggy...oh, and they didn't even bring it to me. I had to go up and ask what's going on. This is the THIRD time I've had to ask about my food and received half-assed meals. Your employees don't care about their jobs. If they did, they wouldn't serve sub-par food. Always quality food that is cooked properly and quite delicious. I have been to several locations, but my favorite is on Bay Area Blvd near Clear Lake. You order at one register, grab a tray, look at additional options available to compliment your order as you slide along to the pay register. You get your own silverware, napkins, drink and fresh french bread before finding a seat. Once seated, you can munch on delicious bread before they bring your food to you cooked to order. I highly recommend the French Breakfast, but lunch and dinner are delicious as well! read more

I guess I'm a little partial to this place, as it is where my husband and I had our first little "date", but it is a good sit down spot for breakfast. It is a little pricey, and has pretty decent food. I just think it would be more worth it if people brought the food to you. Panera is cheaper and they do that. All in all not bad. read more

Great place for quick lunch and dinner. The Duet Magnifique is worth the price. Tomato Basil soup is one of the main reasons I come here, it's very good.
